While I sympathize with peoples' problems with the computer here, I bought a nMP in August and haven't had any trouble. I've used it with a whole host of displays too with varying connectors.

The screens I've used with it and haven't run into any problems are:
- Apple 30" Cinema Display with official Apple DVI-to-Displayport adapter.
- Apple 27" Cinema Display with display port (not the Thunderbolt model)
- Wacom Cintiq 12wx with third party DVI-to-Displayport adapter.
- Acer G277HU 27" LED Monitor via HDMI

Hopefully I don't run into any issues in the future as the machine ages. Anyways, I'm keep my eye on this thread.

Are you using an ups/surge protector/voltage stabilizer? What are the suggestions with respect to this? (the question is also directed to other people in the discussion). I used an APC ups but it might be old or inadequate, now i think i need to buy a new one that is ok for the mac pro. Could the problems be related to surge issues?

Hi, I use a APC and have issues. I think it's an electric problem, so APC protector and freezes can be related.

I'm using a power bars; I'm going back and forth between Canada and the UK. Each country I have a power bar, which I believe have surge protectors. Basically I haven't gone out of my way to rig up a surge protection system.

I'm using a CyberPower Pure Sine Wave UPS system. Can't imagine the crashes are related to that
As The PSU can handle a line voltage between 110 and 240 V, I doubt that as well. But nevertheless an interesting idea, as the crashes can happen in any situation.

between earth and heaven
It's not about line voltage only, it's about spikes, frequency, surges, sudden voltage up/downs, line noise etc.
I would suggest to also check for proper grounding.

Also cheap UPSs are not so well made and have less abilities, of course the best are the on-line type.
The high end interactive ones, like Smart UPS line from APC, Eaton ellipse etc, are also very good.

ok for the spikes and line noise. Particularly the possible noise.
Generally it is incredibly stable here regarding frequency and up/downs, but I just changed the entire wiring here, running the MacPro through an APC BR550GI (550VA - 330W) now. Now I finally see, how much energy it uses :)

I will report...

Yes, people reported having the same problem.

I did a apple hardware test, all good. i did pram reset too after i upgraded to 10.11.1

I got this gnu reset again today. system though seems stable. just once i got a beach ball when typing something into word 2016.

could it be word? how can i find out?

Apple told me on the phone that kernel error don't need to necessarily mean a hw defect.

Yes, it pretty much means that their GPU drivers are total ass, although replacing my GPU B fixed the freezing problem although it introduced a flickering problem (way less annoying, but still jarring).

i apparently got my whole mainboard fixed about 4-5 months ago.... gnu b means? maybe i should get it replaced again. i switched from windows, dell. and it seems i have more issues than with windows...

GPU is the graphics card (Graphics Processing Unit). I also did get both my GPU B (second GPU) and logic board (whatever that is) replaced along with the I/O I believe.

so you are saying the logic board replacement is different from a gnu replacement?

Yes, and it's GPU just to be clear, not gnu :p Logic board is probably the motherboard.

ok ill call them to be sure to see what was replaced and ask them again. i mean, just saying i have a mid 2014 mac book pro retina. but i guess their gpus are faulty everywhere, or drivers at least. doubt nvidia does such ****** graphics.

Sigh, I hadn't even read that part. This thread is about the Mac Pro issue which might or might not be related to the problem you're having on your MacBook Pro. Mac Pro late 2013s have AMD GPUs and have to be connected to external displays.
