I have an update on my display settings. I uninstalled SwitchresX and installed Cordless Dog’s ‘Stay’ and after using it for a couple of days it works much better. There is the odd window that fails but better one window than many!

A few months have passed, how is your experience with Stay?

It’s still stable and helps to load some windows but some do not resize after sleep - iTunes, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator. I’ve accepted the fact it’s definitely a crappy OS issue. Apple developers are sloppy. God help us with 10.14.

Am I correct that if I use displays made in different years or models, this Mac-forgetting-display-setting issue can be avoided? Both of my current displays only use HDMI.

Inside A Mac Box
Problems with MacOS and Display panels come from not having the exact output and input signals between your Mac and Displays(s)

I have found out that MacOS has locked its output and input to be precise and dependent on the exact configuration said in your Mac's specs

The monitors even if you have more than one have to match not only the dedicated MacOS output but the monitors can't be different in terms of what your Macs output configuration

If you have two monitors all the three signals (two monitors + Mac) must be the same input and output settings with the same exact specs you can't have one monitor with 60hz or one monitor with 60hz and up to 144hz those two monitors are prepared Only for those settings from the MacOS

Locking the input and output between monitors and Mac is a very smart move from Apple

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 running 12.6.6 with rx6800xt running three monitors two are 1080p at 60Hz and my main monitor is 4K 48inch OLED running at 120Hz. no issue with my Mac remembering monitor locations and no conflicts with the different resolutions. Sounds like this is an Apple M /GPU issue or thunderbolt controller issue.

Now that some users have the M2 and running Sonoma for a while, is this still an issue with resized displays?

have 2 ASD and the Dell 6K running BetterDisplay. Sonoma on an M1M. 99.9% of the time I have no issues any more.
Sorry, what's "ASD"? And what's BetterDisplay? A utility that comes with those Dell monitors?
