Just last night I was thinking of getting a Mac Studio but will hold off now. (I want a Max chip, just not sure if I want it in desktop or laptop form.)

I don’t like to watch videos. Can anyone summarize? Especially since I just got a Studio 🤩
There’s not much to it. It’s basically just speculation that these recently discovered Mac model identifiers for yet unreleased Macs are at least partly for a Mac Studio refresh.

It’s possible, but still just a guess.

My window to return my Studio is closing, but it’s good enough (to put it mildly) for my needs 😜

I’m sure it will serve you well for years to come! What specs did you get? I’m still running a pre-Apple Silicon mac at home myself. (2018 Mac mini)

M1 Max 64gb/2Tb 32 core GPU. With tax & Applecare it was about $3262. And I had $3200 in Apple gift cards (via Amex points) so it cost me less than $65 out of pocket 🤑

Costco US seems like they are clearing out base M1 Max, down to 1,499 and M1 Ultra down to 3,199
Ordered! Thanks for the heads up!

I actually ordered the M1 Max Mac Studio back in January when Costco marked it down to $1699 but returned it thinking I may go for the M2 Pro Mini instead. Then I returned the Mini thinking I'd go for an M2 Max MBP but put that off upon rumors of the 15" MBA...then became disillusioned when it became clear the MBA 15 was only getting the regular M2. I started to wish I'd held onto the M1 Max Mac Studio.

Now the M1 Max Mac Studio is an even lower price! A fantastic price that undercuts the $1799 from Apple Refurbished/Apple Education Store. Plus Costco has a 90-day return policy in case an M2 Max Mac Studio shows up at WWDC or Summer.

Glad to hear you picked one up! Think I’ll do the same, had forgotten about the 90 day return at Costco

Good price. Wish it was customizable too at least for the HD.
I know, but not worth paying extra $500 difference compared to a 1TB custom order right now from Apple Education Store (or $700 difference on regular Apple site). An external TB4 enclosure and 2TB NVMe is more storage at lower total cost ($215-$275).

To be honest though, this might be an all time low price for the base model in new condition.

Yeah its crazy low, does it mean a refresh is likely, maybe.

I thought they were clearing out inventory in January when Costco had it at $1699, then came to learn it was also $1699 back around Black Friday 2022.

Hopefully this all-time low price finally leads to a refresh. Keeping fingers crossed, but at the same time the M2 Max isn't a huge increase over the M1 Max (based on the 16" MBP). The M2 Max has better scaling but hard to ignore the drastic discounts on the M1 Max.

No one else is matching their sale, so I doubt it means anything about a refresh or Best Buy would be matching.

There will not be a Studio refresh at WWDC, or (more than likely) even this year at all. Spring 2024 is (again, more than likely) to be the soonest it might get refreshed.

That is also my prediction, but it could be longer... It will depend on "when" Mac Pro is launched.

If the M2 Ultra Mac Pro is released at WWDC 2023, then M2 Max/Ultra Mac Studios Fall 2023...

If we see the M3 Ultra/Extreme Mac Pro previewed at WWDC 2023, then M3 Max/Ultra Mac Studios Fall 2023 alongside M3 Ultra/Extreme Mac Pros...?

I think Mac Pro will be released in winter of 23/24. However they will announce it at WWDC. Similar to what they did with the last Mac Pro and iMac Pro.

June 23: M3 Laptops, M3 iMac
Fall 23: M3 Pro/Max laptops
Winter 23: Mac Pro

Unsure where the mini and studio fit in.

Rumors are pretty hot that an upgraded M2 Studio could be introduced at WWDC in a week (as of this post).

If anyone is thinking of upgrading, now is the time to secure the best potential sale price. Most online sellers allow you about 3 weeks to to ship it to them and you can always cancel if you change your mind or if a new model isn't introduced.

I got a pretty decent online trade-in price for my current M1 from itsworthmore.com

If the possibly introduced M2 Studio does not change its price, I would only have to pay about $700-$800 (plus taxes) to upgrade to M2 with the same specs.

Not sure if M2 will provide enough benefit to warrant the cost of upgrade. I am not certain just how much faster M2 would be over M1.

I think if the new Studio would be introduced in Space Grey for the first time, that would certainly be an added incentive. However, many of you have stated in prior threads that there would be no possibility of that happening.

Just getting a consensus of what current STUDIO owners would do if a new M2 is introduced at WWDC.

Honestly, only you can answer that. Is there something you're doing with your current machine that it struggles to keep up with? Do you use your Studio to earn income? If the answer to those questions is "no", then maybe you're considering upgrading for no other reason than you simply want the latest and greatest. Is that worth (maybe) approximately $1000 to you?
