Hey all,
I got pretty excited that my customized Mac Studio supposedly will arrive a month earlier than expected. However, since it has arrived in Chek Lap Kok, HK on Apr 2 there has been no movement whatsoever. Apple support claims the information given by UPS is incorrect and the package will show up "sooner or later". However, as a working person, how am I supposed to schedule delivery if UPS tells me "Check back tomorrow for an updated delivery date"? Also, when going to UPS, they want to charge for any holds or delivery changes.

After calling Apple, they explained that they can make changes to the delivery for free, but the whole process does not seem very transparent to me.

Did anybody ever have a similar experience with a customized product from Apple?

UPS used to be one of the best delivery services in the US, but now they are one of the worst. Their tracking information is cryptic or non-existent. And they want you to pay a monthly fee for better tracking information. With Amazon I get good service when they deliver their own packages. But whenever I get things delivered via UPS, which is the carrier Apple uses, it is always a crap shoot, and it usually takes longer than what they promised.

You pay a fee for UPS My Choice?

COVID has recently spiked in HK and probably the root cause of the delay. The controls to supress the virus are stringent which likely has resulted in far less throughput of cargo via Chek Lap Kok (HKIA) as a direct result. This is way above Apple's or UPS's sphere of influence...

Looks like you caught up with 2 factors, Covid lockdowns and disruption of Global market shipping! They're even backing up at US ports right now and even on YouTube news reports!

Thank you for posting this. My Mac Studio is also stuck at Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong since the 4th. Can you please provide an update when your UPS shipping status change?

Same thing here, my Mac Studio "Arrived at Facility, Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong" on 4/4/22. It is still there today, 4/11/22, with UPS now having the following on the tracking page: "On the Way, Delay".

I'm currently in Hong Kong, we're still on semi-lockdown here so import/export of international shipments are severely delayed. My orders from Amazon US that used to take one week to arrive are now taking a month or so.

Thanks for the info, lotzosushi.

Mine has been stuck there since the 9th -- not very long, but based on your posts, I'm concerned, and seriously considering buying a base M1 MBP locally to handle the workload if the Studio is going to be delayed by a month.

Mine still stuck in Hong Kong since the 8th, but Apple unlike UPS said it’ll be here on the 21st not the 11th as shown on UPS website.

Gawd. UPS app/site says mine is still in HK, but I just got an e-mail from UPS that says it'll arrive ... tomorrow!

Ha! I say! Ha!

UPS emailed to say my Mac Studio was being delivered today. Upon further inspection - yup, it’s at Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong and has been there since 07.04.2022

I appreciate there are a bunch of shipping challenges to deal with, however I’m not impressed by UPS tracking technology when they give 4 different facts:

email -- it’s coming today
web — it’s cleared customs
web (logged in) — it’s in Hong Kong
sms — link was broken (!!)

The last 3 orders I’ve done had Apple right on the mark on delivery dates and UPS totally wrong.

I’ve no idea how UPS have managed to make their international tracking so bad to the point it blatantly lies to you. I used to think DHL had the exclusive of terrible tracking, but since they left the US market, UPS seem to have stepped up to the plate with a loud yell of “Hold my Beer!”.

Same exact thing here. Been stuck at Chek Lap Kok, HK since day 1, 4/4/22. Looks like we are at the mercy of COVID lockdowns and supply chain issues :(. My studio display hasn’t even shipped yet so it’s not looking good for that arriving any time soon.

Huh. New entry after Chek Lap Kok: “Your package is pending release from a non-UPS broker. Contact the non-UPS broker for additional information.”

Stuck in customs, I guess.

The automated software doesn’t account for Covid lockdowns with unknown lifting dates.

just got this email from UPS. I don’t think it’s actually lost but not what I wanted to hear lol

I'm so sorry to hear that. My MBP scheduled for Feb delivery was also "lost."

If you want to resolve this by phone, UPS reps are not well-trained, and generally a waste of time. All Apple can do is send a replacement or give you a refund. However, you can ask Apple for "expedited shipping," for what it's worth, to speed things up a bit. If you want a refund, make sure that Apple's shipping types know that the thing actually was lost, otherwise they'll hold up the refund, thinking that the thing is still on its way to you. There might be some back-and-forth if UPS drags their feet on the investigation, and doesn't tell Apple the thing was actually lost. Keep pressing Apple for the refund -- it's not being processed until you get the Apple e-mail that says it's being processed.

Definitely do not waive the signature requirement, as UPS would claim that they delivered it to you. As mine went, to conclude the investigation, they claimed that it was found & delivered anyway, but it had no bearing on my refund. It was odd, and makes no sense, but I got the refund.

Thanks esmithcreative, I saw that a few days ago on the UPS site but I was wondering if it was having an effect on what is happening in Hong Kong. Zhejiang, the closest province is 500 miles (800 kms) north of Hong Kong. But it is certainly a possibility.

Here is an article regarding Hong Kong, published yesterday. It seems that airlines are staying away from the city at this time, which may also affect our shipments, although I would think that UPS is using cargo planes.

Apple still sees the computer arriving this Friday, 4/15. Ah, the beauty of everything being fully automated.;)

In the following thread you can find information regarding UPS flight currently flying out from HKG to Anchorage, and then things are shipped to the continental US:

That gave me some hope, until I found that another poster stated that those packages that have been at HKG since the 4th without a movement may be lost, as per UPS:

So we may all have to start calling UPS International, and Apple. :(
