To measure how many dabs per lunar cycle will trigger the encapsulon of course.

It was a stupid autocorrect. Should be dB
Specs by Apple is 25dB at idle, operator’s position. So if anyone’s studio is louder than that, it’s faulty.

Now if it is 25dB or less and it is too noisy for someone (not talking about the whine) - then the Studio is not right computer for that person. My opinion, of course.

I don't have any pro measuring equipment, but I can hear my Studio over a 40db background noise, as I've said before. As measured by my iPhone. I don't have any experience measuring sound at all, nor any interest in it, so other than background noise measurements, I'm pretty tapped out on experience. If I can hear it over that, it's louder than that, but like I also said, it's more of a pitch problem than a loudness problem.
Can you please, for the sake of being interested, just record the noise without any other background noise (windows shut, etc). You can use a simple dB meter app to check how loud something is. I think it would add interesting data to the discussion. I don't think anyone has any pro-level measuring equipment, nor is it required for this purpose.

Hey guys, end of the game for me !
My Apple Store agrees to take back the Mac Studio after the 14-day period for ordering a MacBook Pro 16. So I wait for the delivery of the MacBook with the Studio and bring it back afterwards. They were very understanding. I appreciate this decision!

Shutting everything down would be a major pita and time consuming. I'll try to think of another way.

You’re not wrong.

Trouble is there isn’t really any alternative. Apple only sells one workstation level machine at the moment.

All we can do is complain and hope that Apple listens.

Ok so I thought I'd join in the party and measure the latent dB levels in my room with the Studio off and then with it on

Latent noise floor in the room: 25dB
Noise floor with the phone literally sat on top of the Mac Studio while idling: 25dB

That's how quiet it is. No additional fan control software. Totally inaudible from my seating position two feet away.
Though it's very clear from responses on here that some other owners are not getting the same experience, and I don't think it's just a difference of expectation.

I just asked my wife to help see if I'm actually insane or not, since this thread has me questioning my sanity, and she said it's definitely very audible.

Then we played a game where I stood 20 feet away in another room, while she stood in-front of the Mac Studio so I couldn't see and then either covered the grill at the back or didn't and I had to tell her if I could still hear the fans or not.

I got 20/20 right.

You might want to be a little nicer, personal attacks are never cool, especially when you can't know anything of where my Mac Studio and what else runs in that same place and why.
I’m sorry but if so much other stuff runs around you that also makes noise it really doesn’t help your credibility.

What does it have to do with my credibility? It doesn't actually, you are calling me a liar, and I'm saying what I hear at what background Dbs. Like I said, you know nothing about the location of my Mac Studio.

You claim it’s too loud. Without providing measurements or recording. I call ********.

Why don’t you explain it to me then? You claim it’s so loud you can’t bear it whilst also saying you have a lot of other stuff you have to shut down in order to take a measurement of just the max studio. Therefore, those other things also make audible noise that would impede the recording. Ergo, I question your requirement of the max studio having to be silent. In any case, it’s not advertised as silent at all, but at 25dB idle. I wonder what you’d say if you’d actually put some stress on it during use and the fan kick in properly. I just really don’t follow your logic here.

Once again, I think it's extremely important that you differentiate between coil whine and fan noise. Posting a recording would help - especially those who have had this machine and it went bad, before you return it please record it and post. We don't need decibel measurements or precise data, just a simple sound or video clip will tell the story.

This needs to get attention and not be drowned out by a slight amount of 'iMac level fan noise' complaints, which I am not arguing the validity of - I returned a 2019 imac for being too loud.

Coil whine is a defect and / or a design problem and we need more samples here so this gets picked up by some media or an influencer and Apple notices / fixes the problem or it could wind up like another MBP 16" situation where the solution to fix the power draw 'bug' was to buy a brand new laptop with an $800 GPU upgrade because Apple never acknowledged or fixed the problem.

The lead time on these machines is now stretching into August which is crazy, so especially if you have or had a machine that was fine and then over a week or three 'went bad' please be specific about it and, if you still have it, make a clip for us. These are so expensive this could really save a lot of people time and money, or ensure we get a better quality product soon. A firmware update can fix fan speeds but it damn sure can't fix coil whine.

Yeah, you can easily bring a single core to its knees. But that's only 1/20th of the power of the Ultra, and it's also where the Ultra isn't going to be really any faster than even a base M1.

My point is the amount of data needed to saturate all 20 cores (and additionally the GPU cores) 100% of the time, to actually get the temps up into the 70s is really difficult.
Sort of. I just hit the render button :)

You need to ask yourself why my having / not having a problem is so important to you. Do you take criticism of Apple personally? Are you afraid that my hearing might be better than yours? Do you think I'm lying for some bizarre reason?

I both understand my problem and I've been describing it in great detail, testing, and sharing a lot of data, and it seems to be consistent with that of the others who have this issue.

You don't have this issue, you haven't experienced it, and you don't seem to have any conclusive proof of what's causing it, but you seem to want to be an expert declaring definitively who does and does have it.

I'm not sure what you're doing here, other than trying to call me a liar for some reason.

I apologise for saying you may have ear wax (although that could be a reason - I had my own ears cleaned about 6 months ago, and it was very nice :) )
Instead of going on about it, return the computer.

Mac Studio is not loud, but it is audible. IMHO the more you listen to the noise the more you hear. Its crazy! But… covering the air out area with hand reduces noticeably (practically completely) the sound that everyone is talking about here.
