Well I haven’t had the Touch Bar before , I’ve heard it’s kind of a hate or love thing - would you say it’s something worth paying extra for?

Without a doubt, you will be happier with the MBP as it's a better overall package. The touch bar is tolerable for most people though most agree that it is a gimmick. The fact that you have to get BetterTouchTool to make it useful speaks volumes in how mediocre it is. However, I wouldn't use that as a deal breaker because there are other points to consider between MBA vs MBP.

Maybe you can help me. Im using an older mac with 8GB ram. Whenever I play games on Facebook (Mostly bingo blitz) The comp gets super super loud and laggy. Is this an issue with Ram?

No, that's not going to be RAM.

Most likely the facebook game is using flash or something that's loading down the CPU. I don't play games on FB so have no experience with that.

Use ActivityMonitor app to see what your CPU usage and Memory usage is to be sure. Look at MemoryPressure. If it's green then you're good.

Gone for the 512/16 8core GPU Air. The fanless design sold it for me, I cannot stand fan noise.

Okay so, before the event when I could only choose between the air that constantly overheats I was going for the pro even though I’m “only a student” and not using any demanding programs so I do have the money put away for the pro. But now after this event (finally ?) with the new air being announced, not having a fan and also 18hrs of battery, which one should I choose??
Like I said the pro is still within my budget but do I need it? I guess I would get a computer that is capable of doing more if I suddenly need it to, but it does have a fan, will I be annoyed ? Ugh.. thought the choice would be simple
Haven’t looked at newest line yet. For reference, I bought a mid 2012 MacBook Pro for college in 2012 and still have it today.

As a college student, I had the need for a MacBook Pro in 2012 and still use it today as my only computer. Granted I did replace a couple faulty or worn parts with time in 2016. Looking to upgrade soon.

Are the screens the same on the new Pro and new Air? Mostly concerned about colors for reference photos I use for artwork.

I am liking that Air A LOT!:cool::p

Will have to see how much it costs when it eventually lands here in South Africa, I would like to get a MacBook back in my life now and this seems like a great time now that they are making the move to ARM, those battery life figures were truly mouthwatering,I am truly excited for this ?

so questions.

whats the advantage of having a fan in the pro and no fan in the air?

is Touch Bar worth the extra over the air? im still using a 2013 mac that is literally dead

I am using a fanless MacBook 2015 and this machine abruptly shuts down if I am doing anything which is processor intensive. Maybe having a fan isn't all that bad after all.

Okay! What did you study?
I’m a medical student so mostly writing, YouTubing and googling all of the complicated stuff our teachers made even more complicated ?

I just bought the 13 inch maxed out. Not thrilled about 16 GB of memory, not thrilled about not having a 4 TB or 8 TB option. But this is the entry-level pro, so I get it.

Is there any speculation for the M1 16" Macbook Pro?
No M1 for 16" macbook pro for sure
M1 is limiting just for 2 usb4/thunderbolt ports thats why Apple replace the BASE 13" Macbook pro with 2 ports and not the 4 ports 13" MBP (that you can still buy)
The 16" Mbp will have 4 ports so Apple will come with M2 or whatever

I find bits of Facebook laggy on any Mac, no matter how much RAM it has And how new a machine it is. I’m hoping the move to being able to run Facebook and Messenger as apps will help with performance.

Fans can be noisy when spinning at high rates. Fanless should be silent - good for a studio where a recording may be made perhaps. However, without a fan, how can much heat be removed from a case. Electrical components hate high levels of heat, reducing performance and possibly reducing life span. Cannot say much about the touch bar, other than it might be nice to have function buttons that change their functionality in the context of the application you are using. A touch bar might improve productivity - ease of use and faster editing. With that said, I don't have a computer with it. Better go to Apple store and try them out before buying.
