"Silent click" disables the ADDITIONAL sound feedback of clicking.

You can still hear your click with it on, it just doesn't ALSO make a sound.

I never noticed this feature on MacBooks. The Magic Trackpad 2 standalone has this option though. The non-silent click is just annoying.

This is with my iMac.

I am still torn between pro and air myself though. I have a 16/256 air on the way, but now thinking 16/512 air or 16/512 pro would have been better. Though this is just my side machine, my 2020 iMac is my main work machine...

Mostly annoyed about peak brightness. I've always enjoyed the 500 nit display on Macs.
I have both temporarily and I don’t see a difference in brightness. Don’t let the screen sway you IMO

Okay so, before the event when I could only choose between the air that constantly overheats I was going for the pro even though I’m “only a student” and not using any demanding programs so I do have the money put away for the pro. But now after this event (finally ?) with the new air being announced, not having a fan and also 18hrs of battery, which one should I choose??
Like I said the pro is still within my budget but do I need it? I guess I would get a computer that is capable of doing more if I suddenly need it to, but it does have a fan, will I be annoyed ? Ugh.. thought the choice would be simple
Based on my first 2 days using the MacBook Air, I think you'd be just fine with it vs. the Pro.

My MB Air-M1 is simply all I have ever wanted in my MacBooks (and I have had them ALL!). Fast, great keyboard, NO FAN OR HEAT after running ALL day yesterday. I work non stop in my work and I am never off the internet, Excel, Word, PDFs, etc.. I was at 47% remaining after Nine hours of "Using significant energy" in my battery status. Goes all day and then some! Will work on FCP this weekend and see how it fares, but for now, it's bye bye iPad Pro. Screen is very good with the P3 colors now making up for some NITS ( I learned from experience in "4k Projector world" that higher contrast with better colors "appear" brighter ). I only used Air's screen from 50% to 80% all day and truthfully, 80% was just too bright for my eyes in my office. Apple killed it with the M1s. Wife now insists we replace her "old" 2018 Air with one with no fan or heat.

Think it was said to be coming last week but we not ready so early 2021 I imagine

Apple's made the first stage of transition - two-port systems. Including apparently bifurcating the Mini line.

Four port Intel systems remain available to purchase - so they will transition in the future. Dunno if it'll be early 2021, but I'd expect it to be sometime before 2022. Perhaps with lower-end iMacs. Complete speculation on my part.

Yesterday I ran the World of Warcraft and a video play(blue light). for at least 2 hours. the MacBook Air with M1 chip still calm, not like before hot and fan with full speed.
I still remember several years ago, I install the wold of warcraft, the fan went to full speed once I login the game

Yes, the M1 is a kind of Alien tech
