Macbook/Macbook Pro side-by-side pics?

Hi All,

I'm considering upgrading my C1D Macbook to a base model SR Macbook Pro. Unfortunately, I don't have an Apple Store in my area. I have been able to look at a 17" Macbook Pro next to a Blackbook but, I'm really looking to see the size diff between the 15" MBP and the MB.

I'm content with the size of my MB... I like the portability, but I'm more interested in the features of the SR Macbook Pro -- I'm hoping the MBP isn't too much larger (I'm aware of the dimensions, but I'd like to see the pics). I've searched the web for some side-by-side pics of the two machines but haven't found anything useful. Does anyone have any such pics?

Also, is the battery life of the SR MBP comparable to the MB under similar load?

Some pics here... Just got my 15" MBP two days ago :D

It's definitely noticeably bigger. But still very workable, and I can rest it on my legs like I used to with my MacBook.

So far, battery usage seems to be on par with the MacBook. The increased screen resolution is worth the bigger size.

thats an intersting pic, it looks like the extra thinness of the MBP comes completely from the display.


Oh,BTW, I have a MBP and my friend has a MB, No contest, I would take the MBP with the little extra size any day. They screen alone will rock your socks off (esp the Res.), the backlit keyboard is awesome, the display bezel looks very nice and professional unlike the thick toyish one of the MBP, and overall the machine just looks and feels like more of a....machine. Also while the MBP does get hot on its underside during load I'm not sure its any hotter than a MB during normal (re: surfing, moving files around, WP).
weight between the two is negligible, I was actually surprised at how heavy the MB is.




oh one last thing FW800 FTW!!
 
Having owned a MB, and now a MBP, I must say that the MBP is absolutely worth it. It's really not that much bigger, about a diagonal inch in size... not screen that's 2.

i was going to get a mb, but the screen is tiny and the colors are bad compared to a mbp

also, coming from a 5lb notebook both of these pushing nearly 6lbs were too heavy but for some reason in store the SR mbp feels lighter than a mb...mb is heavy to me

Couldn't agree more, it's weird how that is about the MBP feeling lighter in store.

It's an illusion. You expect it to be heavier because it's larger. But when you pick it up and it's relatively light, you believe that it is in fact lighter than the MB, which is smaller but still heavy.
 
I had a black MacBook ... loved it. However as my laptop is my only machine ... the MBP was a very welcome upgrade for me. As far as portably goes ... the MB was great ... the MBP is a little more cumbersome, but in no way do I miss the MB.

If I had a "Home" machine like a iMac ... I'd probably go with the portability of the MB ... but until the day comes when I am a two machine guy ... MBP all the way!

Thanks to everyone for the pics and info. I think I've convinced myself to order a MBP next week! Hopefully, if I do get one, I won't have any screen issues. :)

I agree a MacBook is a perfect companion with a desktop PC.

Hey starlabs, now that you've had the MBP for a few days, how would you say it compares to your MB?

I'm torn between the two, mostly because of size. I prefer the smaller size of the MB, and I'm concerned the MBP might have too large a footprint (but I'm tempted by its extra features). Any thoughts for me? :)

No need to wait until next week to order, order it now because it won't ship until next week anyway and Apple doesn't remove funds until the product ships. :D Then at least you'll have a head start and you will be very thankful you didn't wait to order.
 
I've owned both, and I'd have to say that even though the MBP is a bit larger, it doesnt feel big/large at all. I reckon the only time you'll really notice is when transporting it in anything else than a computer bag or backpack.

My concern is more about the footprint size -- the space it takes up on a table.
 
MBP and MB airplain Usage???

so im getting a MBP in the coming days and one question that i cant seem to find and answer to is: can you operate your MBP on an airplane flight?

i know the apple specifications on there website but im confused because most airplanes fly at those altitudes and i see people all the time opperating their MBP and MB's ???? thanks for the help

Well, had it about for a week or so? Runs great. It actually runs cooler at full throttle than my MacBook did (internally cooler... externally it feels hotter due to the heat conductivity of the metal MBP casing, especially the left palmrest area).

In terms of size, it doesn't feel too big. It's not as convenient to put on my lap when I'm on a sofa as the MacBook, but it is still very usable in that situation (note: I don't actually put these things on my lap... I kinda sit in a v-shape so only the front and back edges of the laptop rests on my legs + chest... no way I'm touching the bottom of either the MB or MBP as they can get scorching hot depending on your usage).

As for desk use, perfectly fine. You'd have to be using a pretty tiny desk if you can't afford an extra inch width and length-wise ;)

The extra space you get from the larger screen/resolution is great. I've attached a screenshot. The blue window is basically the size of the MacBook's resolution (I was using Chicken of the VNC... on the MacBook that window was maximized).
