And yeah mine happened in iina and youtube in safari.[/QUOTE]
I got it in August 2017. This is the first replacement. Keyboard was mostly good, with a couple of keys (rather rarely) repeating (I know, this is a bad sign, but in my case, it started from the beginning, always happened rarely, and never really deteriorated, so it was easy to live with it).

I am a bit nervous about the repair actually, as I fear the new keyboard may have more issues than the one I had.
On the other hand, maybe I get a newer part and it works better. We will see. :)
My right speaker got blown out due to unplugging while sleeping. Now already 2 weeks waiting in the repair shop (Apple Care) because there is simply no replacement part available (Holland). How bad is that! (angry)

BTW Whole topcase will be replaced, so maybe this will be a nice improvement anyway. Just miss it desperately for my work in the upcoming weeks.

"UPDATE"

Last night I got a mail saying my MacBook was ready and I could pick it up, even I dropped it the day before. They fixed it in one day! I'm just got back from the apple store and they replaced the whole top case including the battery and keyboard.

Normally it would cost 425 euros to fix this problem but thank god for apple's warranty.

Hope I don't have to bring it back anymore!!!
This exact issue happened to me, I opened the lid to wake my 15” MacBook Pro 2017 from sleep. A burst of electric zapping came from the speaker. I knew it was busted. I’ve had this computer for less than two weeks.

I used the audio midi utility to test and the right side was obviously muffled and distorted. So I set up my Genius Bar appointment.

They confirmed the issue. And their offer to me was to send in for repairs 3-5 days. Even though I brought up that this issue happened within 14 days.

Considering just going back to my 2011 MacBook Pro which has almost never had an issue. Sitting outside of the Apple store feeling let down.

Update 07/2018
Everything was repaired and has been in working order. However, I now get that weird and random pop-ing sound that everyone has been mentioning.

Update 08/2018
The left speaker has just blown out. It was after removing the headphone from the headphone jack. In talks with Apple Support now. I caught some video of the popping sounds it was making. Hopefully this will be rectified. --- Took it to an authorized service provider who was very quick with turnaround and everything was covered by the warranty. It may be in my head, but the keyboard feels completely different, they did replace keyboard/battery/top case to complete the repair.

^ we are the same model and i also experience exactly what you say. my unit is already fix by apple they change the top case. /new case new speaker ,new battery. now i disable sleepmode on my laptop. i think thats the reasons why our speakers is blown out! :)

I went to the Apple Store today and confirmed this is a hardware fault.

They've advised me they will be replacing the Top Case with Battery (don't have a clue what that is, but apparently the speakers are attached to this unit). They didn't have that particular part in stock, so they're ordering it in and then they'll give me a call for when to bring my laptop in for repair. Been advised the repairs will take around 3-5 days until I get my laptop back from the day of drop-off.

Happy the costs will be covered via the warranty, but not too happy that I'm 4 months in since purchasing the high spec model (i7, 16GB RAM) and I need repairs done to it already....
It's under warranty.
Take it back and get it replaced.
Problem... solved!

Sorry if I mentioned you here.

To whom they had experience with Apple in this issue, if the uppercase was replaced did they replaced the uppercase within a refurbished uppercase or a new one?

Yes you are right but you know you will see these signs in new and refurbished cases.
Would be ok if I ask you to contact Apple and ask them to make me sure?

Same thing happened here with maxed out 2017 15" (I hate myself for needing it for work before I could wait for 2018).

I guess I did the same thing as someone else here has mentioned – unplugged Apple Earpods and removed power cable while computer was in sleep, opened it a minute later and boy that zapping was crazy! Had to restart it to make it stop. Now left side is blown out, barely any sound coming from it.

Waiting for a response from my dealer at the moment. Kinda sketchy because I'm residing in Belgium at the moment since I study here, but bought it in Latvia, on May 2018.

Doesn't matter where did you buy it, just setup a repair and take it to the nearest apple store.

Hey guys, I've seen a lot of people have this problem. I'm assuming I'm not the only one unlucky enough to have this happen after warranty coverage ended. I spoke to apple support and the only thing they could really advice (other than paying what is reported to be a $4-500 repair ) is to leave feedback on this and hope that they look into it. Maybe we can get them to realize that this is an issue, find it, and address it.

Go to https://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookpro.html and fill out the form with details about your case – it could help us all. If you want to do it quick and have the exact same issues I have, here's my submission:

Blown left speaker in late 2016 15" model

I have a 15" late 2016 model MacBook Pro. Its left speaker has blown, and the sound coming from it is now heavily distorted. When this happened, no sound that should have caused it was played from the system, as it occurred right when the laptop was woken from sleep.

My serial number is [enter your device serial number here]

Below are a few links with people confirming the same issue – some saying the issue also pertains to other Touch Bar models, and that issues arose in High Sierra (unconfirmed).

I'm new to forums so I apologize if I'm doing this wrong. I too began to have speaker issues. My right speaker would muffle out at high volumes. I'm sharing here because this was my experience and I am hopeful you all have the same experience.

I told the Genius about the speaker issue etc. - we replicated it, they tried soldering it back, and booted in their triage OS to be sure it wasn't software.. THEN they asked if I was having keyboard issues. My response was "why do you ask that?" (I already knew from my extensive investigation that the keyboard and speakers were all attached together to the uppercase of the MBP). They basically said that if I told them I was having keyboard issues (which there is a recall for 2016-2018 MBP keyboards) then they would replace the keyboard for free which means the speakers would also be replaced since everything is attached together.

The labor & parts would have been $478 dollars but was waived since the keyboard and speakers are attached together to the uppercase and the entire uppercase has to be replaced. I do not have AppleCare+ either and my Mac is 6 months out of warranty.

Good luck to all!

2017 MacBook Pro 15", Left Speaker sounding distorted after having top case exchanged due to keyboard hardware failure earlier in 2020. So now I have to pay 500€ so Apple replaces their faulty speakers with another pair of faulty speakers? This is not acceptable. Considering how often this seems to be a problem this should probably be a repair program already.

I am having this problem too, waking up the mac from sleep and suddenly I heard an electric sound which couldn't guess what was that but now when I am playing a music, the left speaker has very noisy sound.

Any suggestion?

Dear Friends,

I've had this issue with my left speaker since November 2018. I want to update my case today.
I purchased my MBP 2017-15" on November 8th, 2017. One week before the one-year warranty expiration, I experienced a problem with my left speaker.
Last week on November 1st, 2021, I went to an apple store and explained this situation in addition to the double typing issue with my keyboard. They changed the top case under the quality program (E1) without any charge.
Also, during the replacement, they mistakenly broke my touch ID cable or something like that, and after that, they updated my case with customer satisfaction (CS) code to replace this part for free. Now, I am dealing with an authorized apple store to do this replacement for free. I will update this post later on.

All the best.

New update:

After first attempt to replace the top case, I experienced four more replacement for free! Logic board twice, keyboard twice, fan once! After so many back and forth the Apple advisor offered me a new MacBook 2021 model with M1 chip but I refused it since I need intel chip. Finally, they offered me a 2019 model and I replaced the whole unit with a new one on February 2022!
