But I believe that the more people who reach out and have discussions with them the better.

Yeah, clearly this issue isn't getting the attention it deserves... The more people that reach out the sooner they'll address it...

And completely agree with the person who posted about MR not publishing an article about this. There should be follow up article about how the issue that supposedly was patched in August is still plaguing users... Anyone know who I might reach out to here?

I'm also going to include some heartache over auto-switching of speakers/headphones being broken in apps where you have to specify a driver...

I did a lot of digging into this issue and it's definitely the result of an omitted or broken core audio driver... iTunes, iMovie and Garage Band all auto-switch fine, it's only applications where you specify an output device where the functionality isn't there. Plus the "system-setting" driver in Logic doesn't always follow system behavior...

And... Gonna add a few lines about AU installs requiring a restart as all of these core audio failures are getting really flipping annoying...

Basically Core Audio's been a series of failures since introducing the 1st Touchbar MBP.

I would add to your list:

Tara Branch
Vice President of Operations
Tbunch@apple.com

Excellent! I'm heading out to Fed Ex Wednesday, I'll be sure I email her too.
My plan is to overnight the letter and send a fax at the same time, then email Tim, Craig, and Tara first thing the next day...

I hear those on my 2015. I believe that's an encoding issue.

Third that.. Definitely a result of the encode or an anomaly captured in the recording.

I hear two things you might be referring to as hissing. One is either the noise left over after denoising the dialogue. Or possibly dither. The other is a line hum that was captured on set that sounds like it was mostly denoised, what's left over sounds kind of like a weird hiss. (It also changes with the shots. A dead giveaway it was denoised in post or during the stream.)

These kinds of clicks, and the clipping you occasionally hear on Youtube are actually normal. Compression codecs introduce all sorts of issues, distortion being the most common. Audio engineers hate lossy audio files for this reason. They basically ruin audio in way you can't repair.

Check and see if 10.14.4 fixes this. It was just released.
No change.

Also I dunno if I specifically mentioned it, but:
I can even make the Touch Bar stop working somewhat. Gets to the point where I'm touching the buttons for volume, and they are lighting up as if activated, but the HUD doesn't appear; feedback sound doesn't play; and I can hear it processing and generally freaking out.

I'm very surprised this is not receiving the traction that it needs. I have sensitive ears but it's pretty obvious. I'm convinced it affects all 2018 mbps and yet only a small no. is complaining. Granted, it only happens intermittently for me at least so it's not a deal breaker, but it still needs to be fixed. It is an issue.

It's been almost a year now - 3.5 more months and it will be 1 year since 2018 was announced.

Exactly. For all of the journalists who own these 2018s, how has it not been brought to light.

well, guys, I'm back here, brought by this update. Gotta say that they somehow masked it in certain scenarios definitely, i'm also pretty sure system still has overload problems, like, ENORMEOUS cpu spike randomly.
I'm gonna give u an example:
Logic pro X runnin (macos 10.4.4) with the session that was done with 2016 mbp (1 year old, no changes afterwards)
and at one point it makes a huge spike (1,5 - 2 second long, that's really a lot) and goes back to normal load.
Any attempt to reproduce was pointless, there isn't any overload in plugins and processing it was just system that fuc*ed up playback for this moment and got it then back in time.
I have to admire, it wasn't making crackles as before, instead, it just kinda muted the output and slowed it down for this fraction of time and then got it back :D

So, basically, It isn't a real fix, it's a band-aid...
I really hope that I'll be able to change this machine to 2019's one for free... any suggestions how to do it? I went to apple store only once, with keyboard, they "cleaned it hundreds of times" and send me to f***k off, audio problems were known but they call it "a software problem" so I'm not getting any hardware fix...
p.s. I don't have apple care on this particular machine but I'm still in time to buy it eventually until august if needed

UPD 2 minutes later
I just pressed play in Logic and heard a hi pitch CLICK at a totally random place. problem is still there, 100%

Security Update 2019-002 for High Sierra seems to have fixed speaker crackling for me.

It has been over 10 days of crackling free since I installed the patch on Mar 27. Before I installed the patch, the crackling happened almost every day or every other day (the sound was skipping and distorted with pops and crackling and can be temporarily fixed by killing coreaudiod process).

The only problems I see now are: 1) A split second of crackling when I quit Xcode simulator while playing something on speaker (this seems to be a new issue since the patch); 2) There is a pop sound when I pause or mute playback (this is not new). I can live with those minor issues.

There is also an update for the patch that I am a little hesitant to install at this moment. I will try it after I monitor for a few more days. Hopefully it won't bring back the issue.

Got new BT headphones at work, so I tried to see if I can hear the speaker hiss.

Yes I can.

I tested it because I saw wiring diagram and T2 is responsible for all audio. The speakers have amps, yet the headphone jack has some other device - since both wired-headphones and speakers have hiss, the next common factor along the line was T2. And T2 controls BT audio and it also has hiss.

My conclusion: T2 is just failing hard.

Still no update from my Senior Advisor guy. Very odd. It's been months since Apple got my device, and since I've heard reply, even though I've sent three emails.

But it's also in-line with my previous experience:
- On same issue - I never got contacted unless there was some positive news or action to perform
- On other issues for other devices, I've been ghosted entirely by Senior Advisors
- Lately, very recently, I was ghosted for a week on iPhone X issue

At this point I totally believe their staff are directed to never contact customers unless absolutely necessary, in order to relay a positive message or to get them to do something.

Gabriel, if you're reading this - I miss you bro :( But I understand that your Dark Overlords are standing nearby with whips...

Update

I don't have an update.

My work 2018 MBP13in got faulty keyboard, so I got entire top case replacement as per normal (as per normal, that is crazy). So I got brand new speakers. My audio still has a hiss.

Probably going on 3 months very soon since my Senior Advisor on the case last responded to me.

I think at this time we can reasonably conclude it's a hardware fault? Apple had almost a year to fix it. All 3 of my 2018 MBPs had this issue also.
