FYI on the Incase ICON sleeves, the actual box just says it's for the 15" and 13" MacBook Pros, *NOT* specifically for the 2016/touchbar models. That means people will buy them for the previous models and as such, they have to be the old size.

Yeah, I thought it was just a marketing ploy too... However, my 2014 MBP does not fit in the new diamond Incase Icon sleeves.

Picked up the Incase Icon case for the 12.9" iPad Pro for about $23 on Amazon, pretty pleased with the fit on my 2016 13" tMBP. Not sure if the fit is better or worse than the new Diamond Icon case "made for" this model, but definitely better than spending $50 more. Also, if anyone is wondering, I did not get any magnet sleep mode interference no matter how I placed it.

This Incase crap is turning into a joke. Are they really stupid enough to think we're gonna buy a load of rubbish they churn out regardless of whether they either fit correctly, or whether they are actually made for the NEW MACHINE'S sizes rather than the old machine's sizes.

Asking $70/£60(!) for these relatively simple Icon slip sleeves, one would expect some respect for their customers by making a product that fits properly and is clearly marked to fit the product they are designed for. Instead, we have mass obfuscation by deliberately misleading labelling on packaging (i.e. NOT "made for MacBook Pro (2016)" but something generic like "made for MacBook Pro") so customers cannot tell which product matches which product, and a generally shambolic sales method – all for top dollar pricing.

If any other brand bothered to make a simple padded sleeve like this, and in a plain style, at this point, I'd jump on them.

Everyone chill the f out. There is zero percent chance the NEW diamond sleeve fits the non-TB MBP. Attached are the photos to illustrate this.

- ICON diamond sleeve flap does not even close with rMBP inside. There is a photo from above showing that it won't even fit inside the "lip" and one from the side showing how wonky and bent it makes the entire case when attempting to use the old machines.
- There are the same photos with a tbMBP and you will see that it closes perfectly. Fits inside the lip and the entire case holds its form.

I will admit that the old ICON sleeve had a much tighter fit across the width of the rMBP. There is almost zero movement. BUT - It was also quite a bit more difficult to slide it in and out which may have been a concern for Incase in terms of longevity for the case if there was more stretching and pulling.

The rest of the case fits perfectly - length and thickness have the same feel as the rMBP in the old ICON sleeves.

You guys can use all the measurements in the world and keep telling yourselves that there are no negligible differences but I have both and there certainly are. Did you guys ever stop and think maybe they kept them similar overall dimensions but beefed up the Tensaerlite edging for better drop protection...

Look at the pictures you'll see this is certainly made only for the new tbMBP and if you like the style go buy one - nothing is perfect but this is pretty damn close. ICON sleeve has been around a while and nobody has come up with anything close to it yet so I'll stick with it until someone one-ups Incase.

I recently purchased a Macbook pro 15 inch latest model for use for school and because I always wanted a laptop I am now looking for a good case for it. I remember years ago I saw a site that had really cool metal like briefcase laptop cases and I remember thinking they were really awesome! Does anyone know of anything like that? I want something that provides maximum protection.

Thanks for the confirmation. At least now we know. Though, I don't understand why you are telling us to "chill the f out" when there is no way of knowing without risking $70 and buying the new sleeve. With these only available online, and the majority of dimensions being identical as you said yourself, you have to understand the confusion.

Agree. You can always buy and return; it's the lack of clarity that's pissing people off.
Thanks for clarification and pix though, junebug1, appreciated.

Now... just need international availability to increase, as no non-US Apple online stores have any of the new Incase ones, sigh.

Having owned the new Diamond Icon sleeve (with the channel), I can tell you will only fit the new 2016 MacBook Pro. The other Diamond sleeve they manufacture will fit both the 2015 rMBP, and the new 2016 MBP (albeit with a little room to wiggle). Their website is confusing, but if you go to the Apple Store it's on the packaging.

For me personally, the Icon sleeve is annoying. It turns your 15" MacBook Pro into a 17" MacBook Pro because of the space around the channel. It wouldn't fit in my messenger bag due to the increased size.

I picked up this once from Amazon for less than the new diamond one and while there is still the wiggle room, it fits as well as the diamond sleeve.

A lot of bad reviews about the Speck cases not properly fitting on both Speck's site as well as other retailers. Probably not the way to go.

Some people like them. I've had a Speck smart shell on my older MBP Retina 15" for years and it's been great. I would buy one again, only they don't have a color I like for the new ones.

Oh I agree they have been good in the past. I was referring to the new one for the Touch bar MBP. Could be a bad first batch. I went with the iBlason after waiting for the Speck and finding out they were essentially useless.

Just received my Pad & Quill Cartella case for my 13" tbMBP and installed it. Really nice looking case and exactly what I was looking for (but a bit too expensive IMO, especially plus international shipping).

Fits on nicely with the 3M adhesive pads but still pretty early to say how well it will hold in the long run. I have a skin on the top and bottom of my machine and it still seems to hold well with it (maybe even better than a naked device, but I'm unable/unwilling to test that).

Aligning the laptop in the exact middle of the case is pretty tricky, and I've managed to reapply the adhesive twice although the adhesive seemed to peel partially from the case.

Haven't taken pics yet since I've applied it, but here are a few of the case + packaging for now

I just ordered one, same color you have.

Any updates on how yours has been?

This seem to be a very lively thread and by now there should be a consensus I imagine.

What would be the best combo of shell case and sleeve for the retina 2015 15"?

I was recommended a random chinese shell from ebay and regular incase zippered sleeves. I trust people here more than that!

Still love it! Haven't removed it since I adjusted the fit and it's not shown any signs of coming off or weakening. My kids have knocked my MacBook on the floor (carpeted) twice from about 3 ft and no sign of damage to the laptop.

I just love not having to worry about carrying a sleeve or case around when travelling with my MacBook. If there is ever a sale in the future, I might shell out for the red case, but the charcoal complements the space grey well.

Let me know how you get on with it when it arrives!

Well back on the Incase sleeves. I emailed them about international availability:
Hi there,

Can you give some idea when your new sleeves for the new 2016 MacBook Pro's will be available in the UK/EU online Apple Stores?

I notice the US online Apple Store has had the new ranges for a couple of weeks or so now, but we have not seen them become available elsewhere.

Kind regards.
Hi,

Thank you for contacting Incase. We kindly advise that we just received the new MacBook Pro cases this week, so we are unaware when they will released internationally at this time. However, you may be able to find some of our sleeves and cases for the new MacBook Pros at Apple or Mac Stores, as they will more than likely be the first retailers to sell the new inventory. We believe it will be released internationally soon. We apologize for any delay but we hope this helps!

Sincerely, Incase
So patience is a virtue I suppose. :)

i also would like to buy hard transparent case for my macbook 2016 mbp with touch idlike this one
https://www.amazon.com/MacBook-ProC...TF8&qid=1490287526&sr=8-3&keywords=a1707+case
But would like to ask: Do you guys recommend these type of shells and will they scratch the macbook after sometime?
It depends on what you're using it for. If you are doing heavy lifting like video editing where the computer will get warm i would advice against it only because i don't know how well they dispense the heat. Normal every day shouldn't be a problem. I would take it off once every 2 weeks or so and wipe the computer and case down with a microfiber as dust can other particles can get caught between the two. (which could case scratching) Its sorta of a double edge sword IMO.
