The great state of Texas
I like mine. I wrote about it in this thread

So whats the difference between the speck "super case" and the Ipeal mover. it appears to me that the kick stands for a better typing angle would be a big deal. There can't be a lot that separates any snap-on case. Limited drop protection, great scratch protections and thats it. But competition is good for everyone and everything.

I got the clear ipearl case. It fits goods and has the cut outs for ventilating heat. I play games quite a but in bootcamp and have always been told to keep it elevated and this case has the tabs that pop out to do just that. I find typing much better w it up on an angle. I cant say how durable it is because it is mostly on a desk or in my carrying case but i'd buy another one.

Speck is a well known brand with proven quality although I haven't had much luck w some iPhone cases. Ipearl is what, half as expensive, can't hurt to try it through amazon. If you don't like it send it back.

Here you go!

The InCase Hammered Hardshell case for the 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

Good luck finding another though. This was from Apple Canada, and took two months to get here.

Snaps on in seconds, fantastic feel even though it's hard plastic. Perfect protection.

I wish it was a black Perforated case like they made for the MacBook Pro, but I'll take this...

i just installed the Speck Smartshell clear on mine. It fits well. My last Speck shell for my Air fit too tight, so the tabs broke after couple months. Speck has a 1 year warranty on their stuff. Their customer service is great and they sent me a replacement, but that one broke too. This rMBP shell fit with less stress so I hope it makes a difference. Still, I wished they would use thicker gauge plastic to improve durability, instead of catering to aesthetics.

Hi guys,

Anyone has any experience with the Booq Mamba Courier

http://www.booqbags.com/us/shoulder-bags/mamba-courier/MCR15-GRY

or the Incase Heathered Shoulder Bag

http://goincase.com/products/detail/heathered-shoulder-bag-cl60029

would like to share some experiences?

I would love to get either of them when I get my rMBP and I was wondering if I could fit a

- External battery (think Hypermac) + some sort of solar charger
- Maybe the rMBP Magsafe adapter
- Camera, mirrorless (think Sony NEX or Fuji X100)
- rMBP
- couple of USB thumbdrives
- a mini portable tripod
- iPad + some slim keyboard (Logitech solor keyboard)
- Windows Surface + keyboard
- Couple of cables
- Earphone + Amplifier (Think JH3A, or Platform Pure 6)

With the camera, and the earphones easily accessible on the go.

Thank you :)

Not sure if anyone responded to you but I tried the Incase Heathered Shoulder Bag for a while. It is very well made and nice texture. However, from your intended uses, especially with carrying a Sony NEX, mini tripod, etc, you won't be able to fit them

If you look at the forth picture:
http://goincase.com/products/detail/heathered-shoulder-bag-cl60029#img4
After you place your rMBP into the laptop compartment, you can only really fit anything thats 2 or 3 notebooks thick of material in the outer area.

It is very slim as a bag, you won't be able to put anything thick in.

Having read this entire thread from pp. 1 to 57, I'm still hesitant to buy anything.

SUMMARY

Among the relatively inexpensive options, the Incase Terra Sleeve seems least problematic. People report that they like the fit, but also that it doesn't damage their new toy. (It's also nice that the case opens vertically, which allows one's laptop to be charged without being taken out of the sleeve.)

Video showing the fit of the rMBP 15" in the original MBP 15" Terra Sleeve

Apparently, the zipper teeth of the booq Mambo Sleeve either did or might scratch the surface of someone's rMBP, knocking it from second on my list to the very bottom.

Additionally, the snaps on certain of the cases (the WaterField City Slicker and the Outback, and various etsy offerings) make me nervous because of the pressure and indentations which tend to become more pronounced as the snaps are used and the material flattens over time. Pressure and heat are two of the laptop's main enemies (not including moisture and dust).

I could settle for the Terra Sleeve or pony up for the Hard Graft, Hook Case or Pack & Smooch, but none of those are actually what I'm looking for.

HERE'S WHAT I WANT

Like a certain gentleman on this thread who asked for the same thing and kept getting shouted down, I've wanted a soft case which could -- if I needed it to -- remain attached to my rMBP 15".

So far, no one has made something like the booq Viper Case specifically for the Retina iterations of the MBP, but I'm starting to wonder whether that isn't a good thing with booq.

VC-GRY4.jpg

Another possibility: the Thule 15" Sleeve, providing it actually fits the Retina 15". At least one person on this thread has vouched for the fit of the Thule; any others?

One problem with the Thule: Several customers have reported the zipper is easily broken.

ProductImage-2.jpg

(These pictures make the cases look the same, but from the outside, they're very different. For one thing, the Thule's a hard case and the Viper's outer layer is fabric.)

And BTW: The Viper and Thule Sleeves are exactly the same price -- $49.95 -- and the Terra's $44.95. There's also the booq Cobra Hardcase -- a bit more of a gamble -- at $129.

Initially, people were worried that older cases would be too loose, but recent issues with the fitted Mambo make me wonder whether the Cobra and Viper cases might even be a better fit the 15" Retina MBP. However, if someone owns one of those cases already and has tried it, then why should I or anyone else experiment?

Skins and hard shells can result in extra heat and/or fan blockage, and hard shells can also scratch the aluminum -- I know this from years of past experience with Speck and other models and earlier Apple iterations.

Yes, I could protect the mac from the case that's supposed to protect it by fitting it with a skin, but the possibility of damage to my laptop from heat and bad airflow would then be increased.

Someone asked why anyone would want to risk the heat aspect of a case that could be worn. I would answer that, in certain situations, you need it but in most you'd simply use it as a sleeve. Therefore you'd avoid the constancy of heat without sacrificing extra protection when you needed it.

Have I managed to justify the kind of case I'm looking for?

QUESTION

Has anyone tried the Viper Case with their rMBP and can they comment on it? If not, are there any soft cases which are neither sleeves, bags nor skins and, if so, can anyone recommend a few?

BTW

Props to the lady who confected her own bag in the manner of Pack & Smooch. Well done, well done.

And thanks to everyone for all the information spread out across this thread.

Well written post!

I have been waiting like you for Booq to release a Retina specific sleeve. Within the past week, they finally release the Viper for the Retina:

http://www.booqbags.com/us/sleeves/viper-sleeve/VSL15-BLK

But it does not function like the Booq Viper you posted for the cMBP. I was about to pull the trigger on that case then I saw the one for Retina suddenly appear on the page. I can't find any reviews for either case, but the one I linked does has some reviews for the Air version.

Thinking I may get the Retina specific Viper now.....

Burnoaa rMBP Case

LINK HERE

I have this case version and like it a lot. Good snug fit designed for the retinia. Memory foam external padding under a very thick nylon cover so it easily slides into a backpack. You can type while in the case, handles and shoulder strap (a must), Several colors and options. Zippers are smooth and have a bead of the memory foam under to protect the MBP case from scratches. This case is very professional looking, my case version is blue and has a power cord/accessories attached pouch.

140.jpg

Some versions also have external snap on pouches which are o.k too, bottom line is that I'm never without my charger, pens, headset, spare clip of.45 acp, cell phone charger and screen wipe. I tried to take pictures of my case but they did not come out well. The only bad part about this case is...
1. While working with the MBP in the case for long periods it can restrict the air flow. -- My answer is the Mcover Case which has flip legs on the back for better typing angle. This serves as cooling area while in the case the MBP in my experience.

$(KGrHqZ,!qwE-YohbfpKBPnGckY7yw~~60_3.JPG

2. If you choose to use, there are four corner straps to hold the MBP safely in the case. These straps cover the corner edges of the screen and may annoy some people. Doesn't bug me at all.

Not many comments on this case available good or bad so take my comment for what they are, my comments.

Any new cases out? I've already had the black and the clear. I wish I didn't have one on in the first place but I know that the cases have certain prevented injury of my precious Mac.

New cases are dribbling down to us like the spittle of a slow-minded giant. I have a hard time not checking this thread every day (because I still don't see the case I actually want), but checking every other week seems a tad more realistic.

Since the basic design and dimensions of the MBP hadn't changed for years before this, perhaps the market is waiting to see what customers prefer. I'm still ambivalent about the rMBP I ordered given the lack of an upgrade path and my opinion that Apple usually gets a new model right with the second iteration.

Also, we're getting to the end of the first rMBP cycle and should see an upgrade next year. I'd prefer to wait for it myself, but my 2007 MBP's flaky logic board is a lot less patient than I.

EatMyApple:

Thanks for the props. Perhaps we should scan other forums looking for posts about the fit of the Viper cases, since no one here seems to be talking about it. I'm hesitant to trust booq with a tighter fit, since an owner posted above that the proximity of the zipper teeth of the Mambo sleeve to the rMBP will likely lead to scratches.

I was waiting for the black satin smart case but it was taking to long to get in stock and didn't want to go with protection any longer. I was able to get one the regular satin see thru from amazon for 35 shipped yesterday and they delivered it today. I was going to still get the smartshell when available since it was 30% lighter but after receiving this one i think i will stick with this. I can only imagine how thing the other one is. This feels like it would have netter protection and still keep the retina profile.

I know many of you are waiting for the smartshell but i think this does the job perfect.

The problem with the Speck and incase hard shell cases I've used in the past is that they definitely scratched my MBP -- the Speck with use and the incase upon removal. Those cases look pretty, but whenever a case causes the issue it's supposed to prevent, I tend to avoid it.

Soft cases and sleeves have never done that, so I'll stick with them for now.

Yesterday, after being nonplussed with the Thule sleeves, and having read extensively about their zipper failure, I exited the Apple Store caseless and picked up an incase terra sleeve at B&H Photo out of desperation -- I'm not at all impressed.

B&H Photo has to be the most depressing store in existence, but they also misrepresented the sleeve they put aside when I called earlier in the week. I asked specifically for denim, but all they had was charcoal. I did have a look at the denim backpack they brought up, however, which felt like a wrinkled pair of pants. I'm not loving the current fabric-replaces-leather-and-suede trend in cases.

Does anyone have a 15" Incase Slim Sleeve? I bought one but there is at least 2 inches of slack when I place my rMBP in it and it's very loose. Is it supposed to be like that or did I receive a 17" version? Thanks.

I am awaiting the arrival of the exact same cover for my 17" MBP.

Although I plan to use the cover 80% of the time, I have read many posts regaridng the covers "scuffing" or scratching the body.

Fo that reason I am wrapping my laptop in Icarbon skin and then will use the cover on top of teh skin

Please keep us posted about how you like the cover and if the complainst about scuffs are true

Thank you

I prefer a simple neoprene sleeve by incase or casemate which I can then throw into my Recon North Face back pack. Simple and effective with plenty of room for cables, iPad, books food, side water bottles.

I received my Speck case today and I have to say it is as good as expected/reviewed/advertised.

ONE word of caution: Although the case is VERY light, my 17" MBP now weigs 7.8 Pounds (compared to 6.6 without a case) - the case WILL add weight to your MBP - I dont feel the extra weight, but its there.

Here are a few pics. Mine came with a couple of Blemishes and I am not sure if I want to return the case, as the case will eventualy get more blemishes anyways (see pics 5 and 7 for blemish/discoloration)

Here are a few pics (although there are plenty of pics of this particular model online)

in the 4 years i've never had a speck shell scratch my macbook. I clean it out often though. Never needed to add a wrapsol. I think they're perfect until the tabs break. I cant see myself going with a sleave because t just doesnt protects with drops. These aluminum mackbook dent and ding easy. the slightest bump can cause damage.

I did the Booq Mamba sleeve for my 13" rMBP. The inside is plush and very protective, and I have not noticed any issues with the zipper making contact with the body. There is some slight room for the macbook to move around inside, but not enough to concern me. I also picked up a Booq Mamba Courier shoulder bag, which I didn't really need, but figured I would check one out. Both are nice and very well made, so far I am impressed with them.

I also have an STM Evolution S backpack that is my primary bag right now. It has quite a bit of room inside and provides excellent protection for my Mac. The computer compartment is hidden which is nice, other than weight someone looking inside would have no clue there is a laptop in there.

Not sure if this has been posted before. I have used the "Risky Business" messenger bag from Kenneth Cole for more than a year now.

A 15" Macbook pro and an Ipad fits snugly in its main compartment. It has a zipper on the inside to store cables, documents etc., apart from the 2 front pockets. The interiors have a satin lining. The leather feels premium.

The bag is pretty slim and looks good even after a year of daily use. A good choice if anyone is looking for a leather messenger bag.

Overall, I'm very happy with it.

I'm sure its in here somewhere.. but at 57 pages I just can't meander through it all.

But, how are the Speck hard cases (SeeThru/Satin) with heat dissipation? I've been going naked with my rMBP for quite some time and I haven't gotten a scratch yet.. but I really want to protect it. The problem is finding the right case. I was planning on getting a sleeve AND a hard case, preferably the Speck brand. I like the look, I like the design, I'm just worried about heat. With these Retinas, we know heat is a potentially major issue and I've been warned that the wrong case could cause overheating.
