Not sure if someone has said it already but these laptops are still preproduction and they may not have speed step turned on. They might not even have the Radeon power saving modes enabled. With these the laptops should get a longer battery life. So lets hope they aren't enabled yet because i want more than 3 hours.

Not at all. The problem with the powerbook G4 was that it was slow.
5 times faster, did you ignore that bit? If you're getting 5 times the performance with the same battery life, you should not complain.

A Core duo is 2-3x faster using the same amount of power, thus it should have the same battery life. However there are a lot of other faster components in there to drain the battery life.

You all have to keep in mind that the AC draws 85W compared to the 60W of the previous model. There has to be a reason for that.

Edit: My bad, i was wrong. It's 65W max...

You can buy an 85W power adapter for current powerbooks/iBooks.

The link is for an AC for the MacBook Pro only....

Could be as simple as the MBP battery has a larger capacity than the PB (60 Wh vs. 50 Wh.), so you would need a higher power charger to keep the charge time comparable for the two batteries.

The fact they put in a bigger battery and power supply do seem to imply that the box is more power hungry than its predecessors....

Exactly. That is my worry.

Also:
Where is the HD protection of the Powerbooks? The one where it automatically parks the HD heads? Is that gone too?

They seem to have gotten rid of a lot of things here...

battery life

Hello!
I found this on: http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.html

Battery and power
15-inch MacBook Pro
60-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery (with integrated charge indicator LEDs) providing up to 4.5 hours of battery life(1)
17-inch MacBook Pro
68-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery (with integrated charge indicator LEDs) providing up to 5.5 hours of battery life(1)

But it doesn't say anything about the Macbook...

MacBook battery life falls off the cliff

I've had my MacBook for only a couple of months, but the battery life when first drained and then fully recharged has fallen from an initial 4 hours to 2!

Gasp!

And that 2 is the initial estimate while doing nothing but letting the operating system twiddle its thumbs!
