The comment steve made to go with it wasn't good either. "The new name is MacBook, because we're done with power"

At first the name MacBook Pro was weird to me, but I have, in six hours, grown to really like it.

After all, it has the word "Mac" in it. We are through with the Power moniker, so why continue to use it? I am glad they didn't go with IntelBook Pro.

And I agree with Lacero, you'll be learn to love the name as you experience the blazingly fast speed of the MacBook Pro.

I've got emotionally attached to 'Powerbook' ever since I had a 170 at work. 'MacBook Pro' seems a bit kintergarten, don't you think?

They don't call the Vaio the SonyProSleekbookForWindowsLovers, or the Thinkpad an IBMBlackNoteWithManlyCorners, do they? No - cos everyone knows what Vaios and Thinkpads are.

Powerbook is synonymous with Apple, and was coined by Alan Kay, along with most of the major design cues - it has a special place in laptop history.

Well...the name...humpf...

Like EVERY new thing you have to get used to!!!! So you need to repeat and repeat until you don't even remember the former one! So lets repeat 100 times and it will sound great!!!

I have to agree that 'macbook' is pretty lame. Surely they could have come up with something more slick?

1. The new name is strange but I'm not going to commit to it being lame. Different?: Yes Lame: No. The fact that they didn't change the design? Lame.
I would have thought they would come in with a different looking product.

2. Dual core processors aren't all they're cracked up to be. I use one(AMD) at work and though it's faster for some things, it's not the best in the world. I'm sure the quad core is something else but a dual core single processor isn't the best thing. What's funny is they paid $3600 for this computer. If I wasn't in GIS I could have a pretty nice Mac, no?

honestly, "Powerbook Duo" sounds pretty sweet. I don't see why they didn't use that.

The PowerBook Duo was a prototype. Somebody on this forum has one and posted about it a long time ago. it was basically a palmtop mac.

anyways, I am dissapointed as well. "MacBook" has too many "K" sounds that slows it down and doesn't give it the ring PowerBook had.

also, I expected a new design, too! Steve himself said in June that they will have to redesign all the computers. What do they do? Put magnets in with a camera and an intel and call it a completely different mac!

However, many times I will see things online and they will look different in person. When the second generation iPod Minis came, from my computer, it they looked completely the same, only no orange one. When i walked into the apple store, it looked really different! I also absolutely hated the looks of the iMac G5 when it came out, but I finally saw it and realized it wasn't some horrid machine. I guess we'll see when they ship in February...

cheeseburger inside

Powerbook sounded sleek and powerful. MacBook sounds like something you get with fries and a coke.

Everyone here first complained what kind of name is:

iPod Photo
iPod Shuffle
iPod Nano
iPod Video
Mac Mini

Knowing you peeps, I say you will forget all about the name in due time as you have ben accustomed to hearing PowerBook for such a long time.

Apple is trying to change its image from old to new, and create a connection with the Apple Macintosh. Rather than Power this G something or the other. ;) :)

I dont really like the MacBook name. It just doesnt have the coolness compared to a powerbook. Honestly, what would sound cooler I have a macbook or a POWERbook?
But steve said that he wants the word mac in all the mac products so that means ibook is probably gonna get changed aswell.
Im also upset that they got rid of the G naming system. Would it be that hard to call it a G6?
Also seeing as how the powerbo.. Excuse me Macbook did not get any major redesigns it makes me wonder, Is apple ever gonna change the way their notebooks look?

I'm not over keen on the name either, but you have to admit it's better than Vingle. :(
