I went through several Dell XPS in the recent past trying to get a perfect display. They don't exist.

I'd be thrilled to have a display as uniform as the one on your new MacBook Pro.

My Alienware and Asus monitor are both better than this 3000 dollar mac.

I love the mac and I'm one of those in the minority perhaps who loves the new keyboards.

But a 3000 dollar computer should have better color uniformity!

i wasnt that impressed with the 15” screen either. better than 2012 retina, but at 5k price point i expect perfection. that was not it, light bleed is not deal breaking but it is noticable.
hope 13” will fare better

If you still have the model, take a picture of the screen with the test image open.

Well, I decided to order another one to compare. I'll return the worse one.

Wish me luck!

I compared mine to a model in John Lewis today using the LCD uniformity test.

The one in the store was clearly better than mine.

So, good ones do exist! I wonder how many returns this is going to take?

there is no point to do that, image retention or vertical line can kill the best Retina screen, in my opinion it's a waste of time

So, I just bought a new MacBook Pro after 5 years. Whenever I get a new Mac I seem to be forced to go through the screen lottery to get a good screen that's uniform in color and brightness. I really hoped to avoid doing this again this time, as last time it took me 5 attempts. It's stressful and I just want my computer so I can get on with my life. Not sure it's worth all the trouble! But these Macs are very expensive!!!!

As you can see from the photo the left side of the screen is warmer than the right side of the screen. Obviously such test images make it way more noticeable than it is in normal usage. The camera also seems to make it look worse than it does to my eyes. I guess our eyes do some kind of white balance correction to hide what's going on. However, as I know it's there I can find the uniformity issue when browsing mostly white webpages. If I don't think about it I don't notice it though.

I guess the question is whether this is normal or whether I can expect to get better without having to return tons of these machines. Clearly from my past experience Apple doesn't place much emphasis on uniformity. I guess most people can't or don't notice or care. I might be kind of OCD, so I notice these things.

Comparing the MacBook Pro LCD to my Asus 24", the Asus is more uniform.

I'd appreciate it if others could post photos using this test

I'd like to compare and see whether any screens are in fact better than mine! I really don't want to be returning computers for the next 2 months trying to get a good one!!!!

Mine looks pretty good to me. Here is a few pictures from it.

Well the way yours looks in that photo is how mine looks in person!

I will note that my iphone 7 plus seems to capture how my screen looks to me pretty well. Yes, it does look a little worse in the photo but not that much worse.
Here is with my s9 plus phone.

It's all a matter of opinion, but if that photo captures how your screen looks in real life, then I don't think that's good enough for the price of these machines. My Dell Alienware and Asus monitor are both noticeable better.
[doublepost=1544386121][/doublepost]The Alienware. What makes it better is that the colors on the left and right on closer. With the make they aren't even the same shade.

I own for work a Dell XPS 13" 2017 model and at work a Dell XPS 15" 2018 model. My 13" has the Infinity display 4k. That sucker is sharp and clear. But I can tell you the Retina seems better than it. Both are great. Want me to take a picture of it with my s9 plus?

Here are two pictures. One in a bright room, and the other in a closet (to make it dark).

Thanks so much! It is my opinion, according to my eyes, that the dell is more uniform in color. It might be worse in other ways. I agree the retina screen pops with the P3 color gamut and glass cover, but it is not as uniform.
[doublepost=1544388113][/doublepost]Anyway, I ordered another one. I'm going to compare and maybe just go with the better of the two.

Opened my second Macbook Pro 2018 15" the other day. I put up the screen test and asked my wife which one looked more even. She choose the original machine. I also think the original is in fact better. So, the second machine is going back. I wish Apple put more effort into QC for these screens. It seems since they went retina the color uniformity is poor.

I guess I might try a third machine. I don't know. Or get a PC.

I guess most people don't care or can't see it.

There is another thread here, where a guy said he picked up a second one and it looked identical to the first. So it would seem that this is the "new normal."

If you can't see the issue in the test photo I'd be worried about your eye sight. haha!

Did you look at the attached file?

Then do the lottery and you will find out that there is no perfect LCD screen.

Enjoy!

Seems to be poor QC or cost cutting. I'm not particularly happy!

Your choice to buy it or not. Apple would probably like you to look else where if you are going to go through 4-5 machines before you are convinced.

is it possible that previous model (2012-2015) had better view from the angle?

Don't really care what Apple wants. But I'm not going to go through the hassle of returning 5 machines.

I am going to cut down their profit margin at least to punish them for being so cheap.
