Don't really care what Apple wants. But I'm not going to go through the hassle of returning 5 machines.

I am going to cut down their profit margin at least to punish them for being so cheap.
Not even mad.
15" are crazy expensive and shipped with too much issues. Go get em

Then do the lottery and you will find out that there is no perfect LCD screen.

Enjoy!

Your choice to buy it or not. Apple would probably like you to look else where if you are going to go through 4-5 machines before you are convinced.

I saw a near perfect one at John Lewis.

So, I just bought a new MacBook Pro after 5 years. Whenever I get a new Mac I seem to be forced to go through the screen lottery to get a good screen that's uniform in color and brightness. I really hoped to avoid doing this again this time, as last time it took me 5 attempts. It's stressful and I just want my computer so I can get on with my life. Not sure it's worth all the trouble! But these Macs are very expensive!!!!

As you can see from the photo the left side of the screen is warmer than the right side of the screen. Obviously such test images make it way more noticeable than it is in normal usage. The camera also seems to make it look worse than it does to my eyes. I guess our eyes do some kind of white balance correction to hide what's going on. However, as I know it's there I can find the uniformity issue when browsing mostly white webpages. If I don't think about it I don't notice it though.

I guess the question is whether this is normal or whether I can expect to get better without having to return tons of these machines. Clearly from my past experience Apple doesn't place much emphasis on uniformity. I guess most people can't or don't notice or care. I might be kind of OCD, so I notice these things.

Comparing the MacBook Pro LCD to my Asus 24", the Asus is more uniform.

I'd appreciate it if others could post photos using this test

I'd like to compare and see whether any screens are in fact better than mine! I really don't want to be returning computers for the next 2 months trying to get a good one!!!!
Can you explain what i need to see in this test ?

Using the first pattern you want to look for color uniformity in particular. Are the bars the same color on the left and right. On my screen the bars are slightly pink on the left and more normal on the right.

Okay Guys. I just ordered my third unit. This is my last attempt. If it sucks, I'm going to just get an Air or something and stay PC for my top of the line machine. Not paying 3 grand for a **** screen.

This thread has almost 2,500 views and only 63 responses. Compared to some of the other threads here, like the one for the Bridge OS error, is this really that widespread of a problem?

I hope not. But something tells me it is. What I suspect is that the majority of people can’t tell or don’t care if the color uniformity of their 3 grand machine sucks donkey D.
[doublepost=1545834503][/doublepost]I think it’s wide spread because out of the 5 computers I’ve looked at in total only one had a decent screen.

I'm not going to disagree but I have made the assumption of the few people I know with the newer generation 15-inch MacBook Pros (who I know wouldn't tell or care) that they have this issue and when I got a good look at their display, they don't have it. Go figure o_O

So it's definitely a WTF moment for me!

Well that means there is hope that my third unit won’t suck D.

God let's f'n hope so!
[doublepost=1545835289][/doublepost]Oh by the way, though I find it extremely anecdotal, I read somewhere that the silver models didn't seem to suffer as much from this problem.

I just think most of the screens are bad. I think it’s highly unlikely the next will be good. But as I want a Mac I’ll give them a final chance.

Just want to offer a quick update. I recently sold my i9 32/1GB/Vega 20 2018 version with a sub-perfect screen and just picked up the 2.4 i9/32/1TB/Vega 20 2019 version. The screen on this thing is near perfect. So Apple, in fact, can ship a decent screen. The new keyboard is OK. Keys feel stiffer, but they are definitely more quiet than the 2018 version. The speed of this thing is terrific, and there is no thermal throttling that I can detect. The fans are louder, though.

You say, "If I don't think about it I don't notice it though" and "I might be kind of OCD..."

I don't see anything wrong, not even in your test photo. So of course everything would be fine in normal use. You're looking for problems that don't exist I think.
Nah you're not being OCD alot of TVs, Phones, Laptops even the most expensive of these things have some degree of screen uniformity display issues these days. where one side shows more like than the other or a slight tint of another colour even the dramatic screen light burn in on Microsoft Surfaces

To these companies
We all want a perfect screen
we've had enough!

I think we should get what we pay for.
