Well I just got home, opened up the box, and am using it to type this. It is absolutely a gorgeous laptop, best I've ever seen or used by a long shot. The screen is perfect, not one ounce of unwanted yellow. Below are some photos I took of it. It came with iLife 08 preloaded which is a definite plus. Any questions feel free to ask! I am so happy about my Macbook Pro!!

Great feeling opening the box and seeing the ACTUAL box for it.

The actual box, in perfect condition. No dings or anything.

Perfect beauty haha.

Just before turning it on for the first time. And...

Turning it on...amazing feeling. Screen looks perfect.

9C68 screen model which I believe is a Samsung. After learning that I am surprised my display is perfect since I have heard those are the problem child.

Upon further inspection, I think the bottom of my display IS yellow. Ugh I have to run LCDTest to see...

Very cool laptop indeed. What kind of work do you plan on using it for?

Congrats on the MBP. Try calibrating to see if it fixes the screen issue (although, it's not apparent from the shots you posted). SuperCal is my calibrator of choice and IMHO works better than the Apple supplied version.

I'm a Computer Science major, so I will be doing a lot of programming. Some Computer Graphics work as well, but other than that, the usual internet, music, email, chatting.

I think it's my eyes playing tricks on me. Everyday I'm on a tiny Dell LCD at work, and my mini is attached to my HDTV, so I'm just not used to the display yet. Now that I look at the pic I posted of my screen, I can definitely see the yellow on the bottom. I'll give it a day or so, and if I am still annoyed I'll call Apple. How long do I have to return it and get a new one? And if I do, how long will it take to get a replacement to me?

I can see the yellow tinge from here. This is really poor. I had a similar problem and returned it without hassle only to get one with a dead pixel which I can't return :(. Anyway I've learned to live with it and am relieved to not have some other issues people are having.

It really is sad when your "heart is in your mouth" when opening up an apple. This should definitely not be the case.

I think you need to return it within 7 days to get a new replacement.

Can I go to a retail store and get a replacement or am I stuck with the online store?

Thats exactly how my macbook was today when I opened it! LOL sweet! I got my black macbook 2day! its sweet! i know you'll like yours!

Sorry Raska

Sorry to see the yellow banding issue, Raska. Mine arrived today as well, but I haven't gotten home to open it yet. I'm fearing the same issue since ours travelled from China together. It's my understanding that if you got CTO, then you're stuck returning it via the online store. However, if you got a stock one, you should be able to take it back to the Apple Store. Hopefully, someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, let me know if you find a way around this issue... I've read somewhere that sometimes it does go away.

I'm on hold with Apple as I type this. I am actually quite perturbed that with the money I spent I have something like this that should have been fixed a long time ago. Here's to hoping they can do something to help me. Thanks for all the replies, I'm glad most people don't have this problem. Other than this I really enjoy my MBP, it's really a shame the display is like this.

What I am most worried about is the fact that I leave to go back to college next weekend and must have my MBP before I go, no ifs ands or buts.

Edit: Just for fun, here is my Tech setup in my room:

Edit #2: Apparently AppleCare Tech Support is closed and I have to call in the morning. This is not how I pictured my first day with my MBP :(

You got that right. My heart has been in my mouth during the past 15 apple laptops I have opened, from powerbooks to macbooks to macbook pros.

That was my situation, too. I tried to get a non urine yellowed mbp and couldn't, so my macbook will be here just in time friday. at least with the macbook you have a good idea what you're getting. it will get me through school, anyway. i'll probably have to combine it with a desktop machine for photo work.

seriously, if you guys can tell that the screen has yellow issues from these pictures alone, then I might be going blind.

It's easy! Just look at the bottom of that LCD in that photo and compare it to the other 3 sides. Rotate your head clockwise and counterclockwise if you have to. Adjust your angle too. Look at it from the sides and from the bottom or from the top of your screen. I get a much dramatic impact when looking at that photo from an upwards angle.

Here are two pictures I took with a pure white background on the screen. The yellow tinge is quite evident.

I'll be calling AppleCare first thing this morning and update on what is going on.

After an hour long conversation with 5 different Apple people, I have come to the conclusion that I will attempt to buy one at my local Apple retail store and send the first one back for credit.

I am really upset about this whole thing I was REALLY looking forward to my new MBP.
