its an LCD not a CRT NONE of them will be "perfect",

any piece of hardware is bound to have some defect

LCDs paticurally the backlight could bleed, pixels could be stuck or dead, this is just the risk you take buying this type of hardware

After an hour long conversation with 5 different Apple people, I have come to the conclusion that I will attempt to buy one at my local Apple retail store and send the first one back for credit.

I am really upset about this whole thing I was REALLY looking forward to my new MBP.
I did the same thing open it and look for the yellowing its hard under apples lights i got lucky on number 2 and its perfect....good luck let us know "_

May I ask how you set the background pure white?

I would also like to test this out.

I used LCDTest 1.1, started the pixel test and cycled until it displayed the white background.

What's weird is that when viewing pictures in a slideshow I can't see the yellow at all. When I am in Safari or iChat I can definitely see it. I'm really torn on everything it's terrible...

Thanks, I'll post my results later to see if it's the same.

Ridiculous. You dump 2G's on the newest iteration of the MBP and Apple still hasn't dealt with the gold tinge and uneven lighting issues (I can see it all over that pic).

I returned (2) 15" MBP's already in the past 8 months. Not worth ever getting one of these until the screen issue is sorted out -- (the LED didn't do anything in that regard).

In the meantime, I'm chilling with a 8-year-old 15" iMac G3. Better screen than the MBP's ....

I don't know if I saw that much of a problem, it's a TN panel and they all suck, there are no good TN panels, but whatever.

Do you think Steve Jobs' MBP has yellow banding. Why the hell do certain elements of Apple expect customers to put up with it. If the QA cost more, then charge more. I'd pay $200 extra for right first time (hassle - hours and money). There will always be rogue units, but something so obvious ...

Apple has to know about this issue after almost 3 months and plenty of returns. I am guessing they looked at the cost/benefit analysis and decided it would be cheaper to exchange a ton of units than correct the actual problem.

that really sucks buddy....my lappy, LG Glossy, is perfect..i guess i just got luck of the draw.

looking4anotebo I agree re they looked at cost/benefit and it is understandable, but then it needs to be happy to swap until the unit is as advertised and paid for. There appears to be a number of the Apple retail arm who put up barriers - see how far they can push the customer and in some cases effectively tell them to get lost.

Just spent my lunch break and then some getting the last 2.4Ghz MBP at my local Apple Store. Tested it at the store, and back here at work and the screen looks flawless. When I get home I will do more extensive testing. Now all I have to do is return my old one and get credit.

well there ya go everything worked out just find and you didnt have to wait that long for your "perfect" one

so you can change your sig now:p

I just hate going through all this hassle over all of this. It's horrible that I had to buy two MBP's because one is faulty, and that this problem is months old with no resolution.

Hey Raska, once you get the chance, could you please post your results w/ the LCD test?

Absolutely. I get out of work in about an hour and a half. Once I get home I'll run the test and post the results and some new pictures :)

You know what? Posts like these really P*SS me off. You know why? Becasue Raska would have been perfectly satisfed with his laptop had h not scoured these forums and been brainwashed into believing he sees yellow banding.

I have a samsung screen on my MBP 15" and if stare at it long enough and from different angles I see yellow too. Want to know what else? Had I not read this forum I would see this either, which makes it a non issue with me.

When I have to struggle to see this issue, then it isnt a problem. Dont give me the "well I spent XXX dollars and demand perfection" routine. It is precisely because of the "whiners" that we pay XXX dollars for said products. Do you think it is free for the company to return a product for repair or replacement of a perfectly working unit?

Is there a "SLIGHT" imperfection? probably..... but ask yourself this...

Does it bother you becasue you see it , or does it bother you becasue you have been lead to believe it should be there?

A person is smart......people are stupid, and what you have here or any internet forum is a vocal minority of complainers... plain and simple, and that is FACT.

I will crawl off my soap box now.

Then please do not read these posts

^^ Indeed.

Dunno about you guys, but...

Negative people + Excitement killers upset me. :(

Just got home, did some calibration and tests, and its amazing the difference between the two screens. The new one is the LG while the old was a Samsung, and aside from the last of yellow anywhere on the display, side by side the displays look quite different. I am in the process of restoring the old MBP to send back to Apple, so when it is complete I will post side-by-side shots of the screens.

Why does Apple use two different screens?

I just got my laptop today and found it is an LG screen. I ran the lcdtest and did NOT see any yellow or any issues with the screen..looks even and bright. Then again, I've never seen a Samsung screen so I can't compare.

Why is there such a difference? Is Samsung manufacturing it differently, at lower cost?

Thanks a lot!

Here are the updated pics that I promised.

Only way I had to compare screens I'm afraid. The 1st MBP is in front, the 2nd is behind it.

No idea why it's fisheyed like that, but thats the new screen up close

...and the new screen from my normal sitting distance

And white balance check with LCD Test.

Compare it to the 1st MBP's White Balance test and you can see a clear difference. I'm still stunned at the quality difference in these screens. It's like night and day.
