I have a 95% complete tutorial. If someone could explain how to get the USB working, I can complete it and upload it!!!!
Did you tried those manuals?
I disabled SIP by booting Recovery on a supported Mac, then installed the modified USB kexts posted earlier with Kext Wizard (on the supported Mac). Then I put the drive in the MacBook and booted.

The Mac mini Late 2009 boots, but I have no USB!!! No keyboard, no mouse. And they are Apple Wired Keyboard, and Generic USB Mouse.

I am now stuck at the "Welcome" screen. But I cannot continue. Since I have no USB...

I did the same thing on my 2009 Mac mini with the same problem that you have. I already tried swapping kexts and running patches, but is seems that the Mac Mini uses a different USB configuration. I also have no WiFi. You can put the mini in target disk mode, boot with a supported mac, do the initial setup, enable file and screen sharing, boot back from the mini and work with a remote desktop from another mac.

Got it working on iMac9,1 Early 2009 with USB/Wi-Fi etc. I restored the pre-installed DMG to a partition, disabled SIP in Recovery and then ran the Seirra4u patch in El Capitan and it booted fine. Thanks a lot to everyone that made this possible!

Also in the same boat as both Ferrix97 & it0uchpods.

My MacBook 5,1 Unibody now boots to the welcome screen but internal Keyboard and trackpad do not work nor do any external USB keyboards or mice.

So close to getting it all working, patience is a virtue as they say.

Did you booted in ElCap recovery or Sierra recovery?

El Capitan recovery and ran " csrutil disable " in the terminal. Then rebooted into El Capitan, ran the Sierra4u patch and rebooted again, this time into the Sierra partition. Now everything works fine, before running the Sierra4u patch I had no Keyboard or Mouse function.

Thank you, I'll try it today. If I succeed, I'll make a video guide for Macbook 5.2.

Hey guys, I'm just wondering if we have to do a clean install or is there a way to upgrade directly when GM comes out?
I think no. Apple could change everything, rewrite kexts etc. Full wipe will need to do so keep El Cap, just in case.

Got it, thanks.
Guess I can keep el cap on the original HDD and put it away, but migrating files and apps and stuff is a lot of work. Haven't done clean install for years.:(

It is understood that's the Developer Preview (Sierra), and it is not finalized, it may attend annoying bugs.

People, I finally got macOS Sierra running on my Macbook pro 17 mid 2009, everything is running good, except for WIFI... no Wifi and no LAN...

I went and got a support sierra macbook air; I installed a clean copy on a external hard drive, but did not setup any account stuff on the supported macbook air; I then went to OsX El Capitan I then ran the script that uploaded here in page 19 from "NOTNICE" ( sorry if I got the name wrong ); next I copied the Platformsupport file to it's proper place like it is said on the first post, I then got kext installer and dropped all those kexts to the proper place ( the kexts are on the first post also ) all this still on the external hard drive, but DON'T boot it from the external hard drive! I went and got "Carbon Copy Cloner" and a cloned the external drive to a new one made on my unsupported macbook pro 17 mid 2009, and BOOM macOS Sierra runs like butter...... Except for WIFI and LAN no networking at all...

Is there a kext to make Wifi work? Is it possible to make somehow?

I hope my post helps others to get it done ;-)

Did you disabled SIP from ElCap, like @Gloomy done?

Im sorry this probably a stupid question, but what is SIP?
System Integrity Protection, you have to boot ElCap recovery, run Terminal, then type "csrutil disable" and reboot in ElCap. Then run "Sierra4u" script, and all should work.

Is it worth investing in a SSD upgrade for my Mid 2010 iMac now that all iMacs up to Early 2009 are being phased out? Seems like they could just phase out all 2010 models by as soon as next year, meaning that I'll be having a fast Mac with an old OS. What do you guys think?

Well, I'm stuck. I don't have a Mac with El capitan on it, and therefore cannot run csrutil disable. My Macs only had Mavericks. I guess I'll install El Capitan to a small partition, and use it for recovery purposes. I have a 500GB drive, but never store anything on this Mac, so it should be fine.

I am worried about the space on my MacBook, which I also never store anything on, so it only has a 120GB drive. I may need to swap it out.

Apple's official policy is that all machines 7yrs old are legacy machines and unsupported. It is a safe bet that next year it will be phased out. Doesn't mean that the user community will not keep it going for a few more years though. The 2006 Mac Pros were phased out after 10.7.5 and people are still running them with El Capitan.

People I have seen the promised land !!! Herfindale thanks a million for your tip ! As of now, my MacBook Pro 17 mid 2009 is running 100% on macOS Sierra full compatibility !!!

What a joy :) You guys all rock, thanks so much for the several members of this forum that made it happen ;-)

I think it's worth it though. When an SSD is installed you'll only regret not doing so earlier. An old mac with an SSD running latest OS is even smother than it was new. Even if there'd be no way to run next OS, dealing with daily stuff is more than enough. Next OS might bring us enhanced Siri like iOS10, I don't think I care those features got fancier. I just happen to care about those features, say Siri, exists. I just think Siri should've come at least in Elcap already.
[doublepost=1466175709][/doublepost]I believe if Siri had come with El Cap already and Sierra was only regular update and caught no WOWs like 10.9 and 10.10 (maybe even 10.11 except it stabilized the whole OS a lot), fewer people would thought about hackintoshing!!
