Thanks for the info dosdude1.

And how does it look in general? it is possible to function the WiFi with Macmini 3.1 early 2009. macOS Sierra? has parrotkeek1 as further research and what are the results Annotation, or you have yet installed another combo card, Bluetooth and Wifi if that is at all technically possible.
Thank you for information about the current state of affairs

Worked for me!!! Thanks!

As a little experiment, can you try changing your catalog using the following command in a Terminal, then closing and opening the App Store?

sudo softwareupdate --set-catalog "http://swdist.furcode.co/index-10.1...n-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog"

Edit: If the URL doesn't show up, copy it from here.

I tested it a few moments ago in an attempt to make a patchless way to update, also without breaking permissions and messing with the App Store, and should work in theory elsewhere.

Please let me know if it works; anyone else who is on PB3 (or earlier) and wants to try it can also do so, it will help quite a bit to determine the viability.

Hint: To reset the catalog to Apple's official one after updating, just use sudo softwareupdate --clear-catalog

Hello everyone, so here's a situation, I have MacBook 2008 Late(MB 5,1) and I updated it to the latest beta DB 8, after that decided to patch Continuity and used the well known tool that uses an external USB Bluetooth dongle with low energy support and yeah, so after the patch I am experiencing major kernel panics... So I decided to reinstall macOS 10.12, so I reinstalled with the already patched USB Install of the Developer Preview (Beta 1), so I am having trouble to update to DB 8. I tried the latest update patch tool(refreshed twice-reboot-patch-refresh once-App Store update) but the update doesn't show or I get kernel panic after the reboot or no Wi-Fi, so I use Kext utility to reinstall the famous "IO80211Family.kext", sometimes restarts other times the Wi-Fi works. So how do I update to DB 8? Is it possible to jump from Beta 1 to Beta 8?

Just in case you're hitting a language issue (and you ARE using the latest version of dosdude1's upgrade patching tool, right?), you could go back to this post https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ted-macs-thread.1977128/page-80#post-23291521 and follow some of the troubleshooting steps I gave Netflyer.

I've been trying to install Sierra Public Beta 1 via DosDude1's method, and am having no luck as of yet. Is there anyone who has gotten Sierra to install on a 2009 Mac Mini? Or is it even worth trying? I've gotten as far as starting the install process, which fails building the prelinkedkernel and then subsequently attempts to make me reboot and try again. I'll Google how to get the installer log in the morning and upload it to PasteBin post haste tomorrow.

Until then, any ideas?

The specs are:
Intel Core 2 Duo processor
4GB RAM
40GB Partition to install Sierra on (120GB Total)
2009 Mac Mini running OS X v10.11.6

MacBook 5,1 Late 2008

Thanks for letting me know!
I've been on Sierra since dp1 on a mac pro 3,1 like yours. 16gb with a combination of SSDs and traditional raptor drives. It's pretty solid. Have recently upgraded to a used gtx 680 with no issues. Will install a new wifi+bt card soon. Haven't tested the microphone yet, but I'm sure to overcome whatever little quirks will arise. So far, have no complaints...

Indeed. Are you getting a lot o hits? Just wondering...

As far as I'm aware, no; but then again I didn't run any analytics on it at all until recently, most of the work was concentrated on refining the server.
At least from the last 3 days, there have been 4 fetches for updates. Overall, the most popular languages being English, Italian, German and French.

That's about all there is to know.

Question, I assume it requires it, but has anyone tried macOS Server 5.2 to see if it requires SSE 4.1? It probably needs it but if it doesn't that might help us solve the problem with older Macs

According to the release notes

Developer Preview System Requirements
The macOS Server 5.2 beta supports the following Macs:

MacBook, iMac: Late 2009 or newer

iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)

MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)

MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)

MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)

Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)

Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)

Xserve (Early 2009)

It's Sierra underneath I think? Or is it? How do server packages work now? and has Siri it looks like... maybe they haven't updated the release requirements?
Or... It doesn't need SSE 4.1 and we maybe able to integrate the two?

Since Lion, the Server component is merely an app.
macOS Server 5.2 is also compatible with El Capitan, therefore, no SSE 4.1 requirements.
This is not the lead you're looking for, unfortunately.

MacBook Air 2,1 (late 2008/mid 2009) Solution for WiFi Support

As per a suggestion by @Larsvonhier, I purchased and installed a BCM43224 AirPort/Bluetooth card pulled from a unibody white MacBook. It works in the MacBook Air 2,1 and provides WiFi support in MacOS Sierra as well as AirDrop support in 10.7+. However, it's important to note the antenna connectors are subtly different from the original card.

Huh, I didn't realize the cards were compatible. I'll have to put one in one of my MacBook Air 2,1s, I've got a few dead white Unibody MacBooks laying around. Does this also mean the card is compatible with the MacMini3,1? It looks very similar. https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/TEmKc6WL5TB44wjO.huge

Sure looks like the same card found in the MacBook Air 2,1. I have a Mac mini 3,1 I could try it in sometime in the future, the replacement MacBook cards are fairly inexpensive on eBay.

Okay I changed my mind, link please. I'm upgrading everything to the max. I actually want a new MacBook keyboard to hook to my board that has a numpad.

[doublepost=1473256584][/doublepost]btw - does ANYONE have unlocking via Apple Watch working on any unsupported Mac's at the moment?

Wondering if what's been happening to my bluetooth driver is something Apple's done in the latest beta.

This is good news for new WiFi with old maps of MacBook.
Would be nice if someone would install so to test a card in Mac mini3,1.

That would be with the other antenna connectors are probably the smallest problem, because you can other plug or cut off from the rest of the card installed and to solder new cable.

Greetings, Your utility for installing MacOS Sierra on unsupported Macs doesn’t work at all on Mac Mini early 2009. I was proceeding according to the guide and all I saw during the boot was, that the bootloader was no table to find the boot Macintosh HD or any SSD cards with installation and I had to go through internet recovery. Please try to fix this issue within the release of the final version of MacOS Sierra. Thanks,

Beta 8 broke Unlock with Watch on both my supported and unsupported machines... will let you know shortly how things look with the GM...

Handoff, Instant Hotspot, and Universal Clipboard
Supported by the following Mac models:

  • MacBook (Early 2015 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (2012 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (2012 or newer)
  • Mac mini (2012 or newer)
  • iMac (2012 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Late 2013)

For a second, I was thinking that Apple had SOME legitimate reasons for dropping 2007-early/mid 2009 Macs (not supporting Handoff and such), but then I realized that many of their Sierra-supported Macs can't even take advantage of these features listed above. Looks like they really had NO reason to drop such Macs.

Just a PSA: I'm going to drop support for Public Beta (and Developer Preview) releases of Sierra in Sierra Patcher and Software Update Patch once the GM is released. Old versions will still be archived, however.

The GM is already released.

Is it available to the general public at this point?

EDIT: Appears to be only for paid Developer Program members.

Yes that's right. So far it is only available to developers.

But even developers had to wait for Sia to stop singing at the apple special event before they could get it!

macOS went gold?? Figured they'd release that with the new Mac's at another event. I wonder if they fixed the cloud bits that were broken in DP8/PB7. If they released with those still broken, someone's going to be out of a job.
