Alright, so as we've found thus far, 10.14 will ONLY work on systems with Metal-compatible GPUs. If 10.14 DOES actually require Metal, then there is a VERY slim chance that we will be able to get it running on older systems, unfortunately. I have a copy downloading as we speak, so I'll do testing, but I don't have my hopes high right now.

Probably should check the bootloader and Kernel Extensions first for references. It could be like the OpenGL purge they did with Mountain Lion, then we could at least get it running without Graphics Acceleration to see if these machines are usable.

No graphics acceleration = Not usable. If that's the case, it's not worth it.

What a rubbish move Apple. My mid 2012 MacBook Pro is now the oldest supported which makes me nervous.

It’s a joke seeing how much further back windows 10 supports. 10.14 should have come to all Macs that got 10.13.
I agree. It makes no sense that Apple is so focused on supporting the same older devices on the iOS side, yet on the MacOS side the attitude is screw them all. Even quad-core Macs from 2011 didn't make the cut, which I'm sure surprised a lot of people who did expect Apple to drop some older Mac models.

Well, I mean. We'll likely get a good chunk of cash for our older Macs. I'll probably give this MBP mid 2010 to my Mother, then put ML on her early 2008 MB and sell it for about $50

That’s not the point though. Both my parents are on 2010 white unibody MacBooks with no reason to upgrade otherwise.

It’s all a big joke really. Windows 10 supports Macs that Apple dropped back in 2012. That is 6 extra years of support.

Apples lack of support for older machines condemns them to a shorter usable lifespan, which is environmentally unfriendly.

Wow i don't really mind too much my 2010 iMac is not going to be supported, but seeing them drop 2010 and 2011 support sucks for 2011 owners who get 1 years less support.

I prefer Linux where a current version of MacOS isn't an option. My iMac from Late 2006 will happily run the latest version of Linux Mint, despite having lost Apple's support back in 2012. And even though the iMac is an old Merom Core 2 Duo model, it actually runs very well on an SSD.

yeah the 2011 CPU is way better - at least for macbook pros. Meanwhile, windows 10 runs on a q6600 from 2006 just fine.

I have an iMac from 2010 and an iMac from 2011. Both have SSDs, both have quad-core i5s, and both perform very well on recent versions of MacOS. Much better than any Macs from 2012 or later without an SSD.

Maybe now but later people won't want them as they can't run the latest version

It is possible the Thunderbolt 1 Macs will work with it with an eGPU (of course you'd have to be tethered to it at all times and you need another unofficial script to run it)

Wow high Sierra ran on the 2009 iMac and newer... they jumped all the way to 2012? Dang
iOS: We care about your older devices.

MacOS: Please throw away your MacBook (Late 2009), MacBook (Mid 2010), MacBook Pro (Mid 2010), MacBook Pro (Early 2011), MacBook Pro (Late 2011), iMac (Late 2009), iMac (Mid 2010), iMac (Mid 2011), Mac mini (Mid 2010), or Mac mini (Mid 2011).

What a great company...

Please start a new thread for this rather than spamming this one with your complaints. This thread is for figuring out how to get Mojave to run on older machines. Not a general complaint thread about the official support list.

Let's just hope it's even possible to get it running with graphics acceleration. Otherwise, the only unsupported Macs capable of running Mojave with reasonable performance would be the Mac Pro (Early 2008) and Mac Pro (Early 2009) with a Metal-capable graphics card installed. Possibly a 2011 Mac with an eGPU as well, though Thunderbolt 1 is not very ideal for eGPUs.

As crazy an upgrade as it is, can't we upgrade iMac models around this time to Metal-capable GPUs? I recall someone talking about this before, but we need some specific suggestions and instructions I think enumerated for the community on a per model basis...

You don't see the iPhone 3GS (2009), to 5 (2012) supported on iOS 11 and 12.

Mine got dropped out. Just thought it would hang on one more year

hello there,
let's hope finally to inject all AMD drivers !
like RX 5xx 4xx , 6xxx
thanks
cheers

This happens if i try to start Mojave on my MacBook Late '09

kmSvgSK.jpg

Now we need a way to bypass it :(
That error is from the Bootloader checking for the Model ID. It's very simple to bypass that check but that's not the issue we're trying to figure out.

These Macs' Graphics Cards don't support the Metal Framework. If Apple indeed moved away from OpenGL to Metal completely, it would be impossible for these models to draw the UI.
