Considering that 10.14.4 has firmware updates that should be spoiling the installation, I don't understand how anyone can be certain that OpenGL is really broken as opposed to the installation simply being prematurely truncated. Short of downloading the update as a stand-alone pkg file which could then be modified to skip the failing firmware update, I wouldn't put too much stock in a badly behaved failing update.
I tried extracting (pkgutil --expand-full) an update package and copying it over the system. It still doesn't work, it's a WindowServer/graphics issue for sure. Whether it will be resolved on its own or require more hacks, I'm not sure.

Do you think it will be fixed by the time GM is available (perhaps @dosdude1 will include a "patch" to resolve the issue)?

i got it working.
Recap for anyone that has an issue, i will document it here.
Machine: Mac Mini 3,1 Late 2009 8GB, 320GB
  • First updated the device with a Samsung SSD that came out of a Dell laptop.
  • My Mac was not native to APFS but I couldn't even install High Sierra or Mojave using Mac OS Extended Journal.
  • After watching the YouTube video i saw here about the firmware update, so i flashed the eprom.
  • Still failed, so i took one ram chip. Note i have 1667 and it came from OCW.
  • Now i was able to install High Sierra but was unable to upgrade to Mojave.
  • Then i heard about disabling the SIP, so i did that but at this point I decided to setup a dual boot since i was tired of reimagine the mac every-time. Been at this for 2 days.
  • So then when i was at wits end. I decided to blow out partition, format it to APFS and Mojave installed!
  • Now I am waiting for my 2.66GHZ chip so the CPU and Memory is maxed on this, after this i will also enable TRIM.
Even though i am a newbie on the forum, i been coming on here for 6 years.

Guys, I installed Mojave on my 2011 mini earlier today and everything went well at first. Then I tried to boot using cmd+r and the thing wouldn’t boot into the recovery partition. I just got a circle with a line through it. Then, like the idiot I am I tried holding option and booting into recovery that way. Well, that didn’t work either. I saw my boot drive and EFI boot. Guess which I picked... now I can only boot to a grub prompt. How do I fix this?

To enter (as you done) onto a grub bootloader (tipically used on linux and PC) you used NOT the default mac startup manager but others third-party bootmanager, or you have installed previously Ubuntu, anyway to fix after the power-one chime hold CMD+ALT+P+R , and things should return as they were.

I did nothing but the Mojave patcher. But I’ll try your suggestion.
[doublepost=1551165827][/doublepost]Didn’t work.
[doublepost=1551165979][/doublepost]I typed “exit” and it exited and booted normally...

Who knew.

Latest beta breaks target display mode.
Are you talking about using an iMac as a screen for another Mac/PC connected through a Mini DisplayPort or Thuderbolt cable? I though that it was broken since the first release of Mojave.

I'm keeping a small partition of High Sierra only for that feature. Is it fixed in the latest non-beta release of Mojave?

Has anyone tried the 10.14.4 beta update on an unsupported machine with a Metal-compatible card like a GTX-680?

I have been using target display mode with Mojave up until beta 3 then it stopped working. I have reported this to Apple. No response as yet. I miss it.

Really? That's nice news for me! It is broken on my late 2009 iMac with Mojave.

I'll try again tonight, as I don't have any beta installed.

Apologies for asking this question, because I know there'll be answer somewhere in the 400 pages...
Does anyone know what wifi cards I should be looking at for a Macbook Pro 4,1?

Annoyingly I have another wi-fi card and adapter back in the UK, but I took this thing back with me to China after realising it's still a decent 'browsing' laptop. It's fine with El Cap, but I'd rather move to a newer OS.
If there was a straight swap card, that didn't need an adapter it'd be pretty great.

Yes, there is. I recommend using the Broadcom BCM94322 card, which is a direct swap, and is fully compatible with Mojave. You can buy one here.

That's really weird, if you haven't use any third-party bootloader then probably you have installed the APFS software patch that's based on grub I guess, anyway "exit" is a good trick to escape from a loop bash shell.

installation of macos could not continue. installation requires downloading important content. That can't be downloaded at this time. Try again later.

I'm getting this with a patched USB installer made off 10.14.3. Anyone know the cause?

Yes, I was pulling my hair figuring out what to do when I hit "tab" to see the commands, was reading through them and saw the "exit" command and gave it a try. Only other thing I had to do was after booting, open system preferences and set the SSD as the boot device.

I still have a few questions though.

1) is SIP enabled or disabled?
2) Is it a problem that I can't seem to boot into recovery mode using cmd+r?
3) Do I have a recovery partition?

YES!!! With the brightness patch now in mojave works all that was working in High Sierra. Night shift is working too. Now I can use bluethooth, wifi, the buttons to control bright and volume, sound... ALL!!! But i don't needed to patch audio. I use all the patches that appear in the installation of "mojave patcher" for this computer. Then, I patched manually bluethooth and I use the brigthness patcher. Only with this all is working.

Hey, mind telling me how is your imac 7.1 performing with mojave?
Have an old one lying around and was considering upgrading it but since the post says it will be almost unusable without graphics acceleration I got discouraged. Just asking cause Id have to buy a new cpu(t9300, t9500 costs almost double for only 0.1ghz per core here in my country), an ssd, and ram were I to do it, so gotta make sure it'll be worth it.
Thanks in advance

1) SIP isn't required for the Recovery it's the no_compat_check argument
2) It's fixable
3) Post here the results from your Mojave Terminal type: diskutil apfs list
And I'll tell how to.

Your solution is working great with dual boot as well. I can boot into Mojave or High Sierra APFS Recovery depending on a Startup Disk setting in System Preferences.

Thanks, that's true, selecting a Startup Disk will associate its own macOS Recovery with CMD+R, even a Lion one if installed as main dual/triple system.
