Interesting one here.. Currently running OCLP Big Sur 11.6.1 via OCLP 0.3.1 (originally patched with .0.2.4). Happy days.

I went through the process of downloading the release of Monterey, creating a USB and patching the USB with OCLP 0.3.1.

This image is what I get with I boot with the <opt> key.

If I select the leftmost EFI, SSD Boot. All Good.
If I boot with the rightmost EFI, I'd expect it to boot into the MacOS installer USB. Nope - SSD. :(
If I select the actual macOS installer, I get a 'forbidden' screen and have to hard reset.

What am I doing wrong? :) I'm so CLOSE!!

Also

1) Given I'm currently running OCLP 0.3.1 and Big Sur 11.6.1, can I simply update to Monterey via Software update?
2) Will running the Monterey installer from /Applcations 'just work'? Do I HAVE to go through this boot disk shenanigans, given I'm fully patched?

Thanks!

If you are planning to upgrade your system install OC only to the main internal SSD/HDD. Having two OCLP versions installed on different devices will not work well, mostly one interferes with the other cause settings still remain in NVRAM. Only a NVRAM/PRAM reset on OC change can help.

After selecting the OC EFI you should have another OC boot picker, it allows you to select installer or installation on SSD. Both versions should be able to boot the current installer, only the 0.3.1 will be able to complete the installer due to a new firmware check Apple introduced lately.

Yes, you can update your current Big Sur system. Please create and keep a Big Sur time machine backup, otherwise the way back will be really hard.

So, just avoiding the boot loading issues entirely and running the mac OS Monterey installer in /Applications will work? I have backups.

We are getting slightly off topic here (it is about Monterey).

Update OC on disc to latest and greatest - sometimes it is the nightly build. Everything is brand new.

I would still recommend using the USB (without OC installed onto it). We focus on this USB method because it will work in any case while OTA might be broken occasionally and running the installer app directly, too.

But give it a try and report back. I did not test each possible update combination myself. When not using the USB normally the software update works fine.

I rebuilt the USB Boot disk WITHOUT patching it and things all went as planned.

The only thing I had to do was post install the Metal Nvidia drivers for my Late 2012 iMac. Did that, rebooted. All good.

Thanks for your help :) Monterey 12.0.1 currently 100% effective.

Trying to update from 11.6 to 11.6.1 using the Patched Sur GUI, after rebooting, the system crushed and promted me to use it in "Target mode" as Hard Disk. I reboted using the backup USB (11.6) in order to reinstall macOS but it can't find the Macintosh HD. From the Recovery menu I run the Disk Utility and the Container disk 1 on my HD has only one volume Macintosh HD - Data mounted. I run the First aid, the drive is OK, but Macintosh HD (with the system) does not exist. PLEASE HELP and sorry for my english!

Time to switch to OCLP by the sound of it. Patched Sur is no longer supported, from my understanding, please correct me anybody if I'm wrong. Consider switching to OCLP, then I can help.

And please, please make sure you have at least one backup (Time Machine and/or on an external drive).

My old MBP 5,1 (2008 late) is running OCLP 0.3.1 and 11.6.1 with no problem.

The Patched Sur is a MacMini6,2 (2012). I run in recovery mode (USB Installer 11.6 Patched Sur) from the terminal "diskutil list" and APFS Volume Mac_HD (My Big Sur Label) with identifier disk1s5 is missing. Unfortunately there is no Time Machine Backup. Instead Volume Mac_HD - Data exists, as Preboot, Recovery and VM.
My aim is to recover my data and clean install a OCLP system.

What version of Patched Sur are you using?

I'd originally thought this was a safari issue but thinking it might be because I'm on a 2012 mbp with oclp.

Can anyone with a facebook account and something similar to my setup load up this url and tell me if it crashes the current tab - https://www.facebook.com/ISS/photos/p.1215608961805366/1215608961805366 safari, chrome, firefox and edge all kill the tab. Edge on a win10 vm is fine on the same machine.

Thanks

What's your setup? I have MBP 15" retina 2012, (OCLP 0.3.1), and the link opens perfectly in Safari using both the integrated and the dedicated graphics

Hi there. It’s a 13” non retina model (MD102B/A) with a few upgrades namely dual ssd and 16gb ram.
I’m on the same oclp version.

That's awesome man.... I want to put it on my 2009 Mac mini
Can you tell me how you did yours.... Btw:I'm on Sierra
You must start here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macos-11-big-sur-on-unsupported-macs-thread.2242172/ This tool for Big Sur is recommended. https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/ Be aware 32bit apps won't run. Fast OTA installs on previous Big Sur installs, only. Best to start with a fresh Big Sur from USB. Is Big Sur offered in S/W Update CP?

Thanks for posting the threads 🙂

I don't have it as an update.... What is CP?

I'm alittle confused on the website directions... Can I make USB and go to big sur, and install over my Sierra.... Or do I have to do a clean install.... Or go to Catalina first.

I did the patcher tool for Sierra to unsupported mini 3,1 a few years ago, and has been running good....but slow cause I was still on the stock mechanical drive.

I'm upgrading to ssd and 8gb now.... And want to updrade to Mac OS 11 or 12...i see you have 🎄😄

You ought to back up your Sierra installation and begin Big Sur with OCLP from scratch. Afterwards migrate your data from the backup.
