Beta 5 users ideally with M1 Pro or max MBP, can you connect MagSafe and shutdown then close the lid while charging and see if you get a persistent charging notification. I’m getting every 5 seconds a charging sound and the orange indicator going on and off
I have that issue with M1 Max MBP, only way to halt it temporarily is to hold down the Touch ID button right after it starts to normally shutdown within finder and release pressing that after you see the green/orange charging LED turn off and then come back on. You’ll notice it doesn’t reboot then. I can close the lid and it will remain off. Otherwise closing the lid you see that orange LED flashing on and off forever. I wrote this up in feedback couple of days ago.

This is probably because of a new battery optimization feature that was incorporated on beta 5.

Anyone have an issue with the Drift screensaver? My 96GB MacBook Pro can't run it fluidly, it keeps stopping and starting like it's running out of resources. All other screensavers working fine.

EDIT: Actually, the other legacy screensavers aren't great. Maybe it's a way to get everyone to use the new ones (which work perfectly).

macOS 14 (Developer Beta 5 / Public Beta 3)

Apple Compressor Crash if you go back dev 4 rev 2 Apple photos would not start
I can confirm this. Apple Compressor crashes right after startup with error: EXC_BREAKPOINT
For now I'm using Handbrake, it does the job, but slower.

Anyone else is having issues with Safari and private browsing/do not track? I have performance issues or messages with errors.

Posted in Sonoma beta 5 article as well, but need help.

I’m having an odd issue specific to the latest builds on both dev and public betas.

Any web browser is generally working, but some websites just end up not loading, with the prompt “the server where the page is located isn’t responding”. Did not have this issue with Dev build 4, but the last three days I’d say 50% of pages just time out. Any suggestions?

No issues on iOS betas on the same page, so I know it’s not my home network. Some DNS issue?

What I find more disturbing is how Apple modified private browsing with recent Safari 17 changes so that it seems to ignore forbidding certain caches that are used to track your browsing. You see this when using private windows exclusivity and looking at manage web data caches under privacy in Safari settings. That used to be blank with Safari 16.x with private windows, until Apple wanted to pursue multiple user profiles with Safari. The only service I used that needs a normal widow in order to run was Netflix, everything else worked under private windows for logging in as a past reference. You now have to beware of this automatically reopened application windows too with Safari 17 usage, that you can disable if you log off/on MacOS.

Are you willing to post screenshot of compact Spotlight window, so that I can close the issue if that is really the case?
Hey I am seeing this bug now FYI. I think it's only happening in dark mode, I was using light mode when I said it was working fine.

Is anyone getting a constant spinning wheel of doom when the cursor is on the desktop or menu bars?

We should see the next beta 6 Tuesday to devs. Maybe the fix will be there. Glad you saw my earlier post. ;)

when i make a little research about this issue, i found that it was indeed an existing issue related to megsafe on 16 inch macbook pro m1max.

Strange part is: i was normally using Macos Ventura, tried Macos Sonoma, received updates. After latest update, my mac started to reboot even i shutdown.

That is why i prefer to make clean install to downgrade back to Macos Ventura. But problem exist. So this is not a OS issue, it looks more like a firmware.

Some users solve issue by replace megsafe by apple, or use Type-C charging instead of megsafe with same 140W adapter.

Now i have a Mac on Macos Ventura which can not shutdown if use megsafe.

If Macbook Lid is closed, it and connected megsafe, it starts blinking amber and try to start OS by giving sound.

i also add video related to this. Hope to find a solution

It's only for a second or two, but my iMac running B5 keeps dropping Internet connection. I keep getting the pop up banner telling me my 'connection has been restored'!

Of course it may be nothing to do with running Beta, but I didn't have this issue running B4, or 3!

I'm seeing a couple:
- Phone won't sync "The iPhone “***” cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found." on 17.0 21A5303d
- Photos will import my Cannon raw files (CR3), but if I edit them they get corrupted (turn in to low resolution previews)

Both have been reported in Apple bug tracker, but no replies.

I'm having a weird issue where Safari won't load certain websites, like Twitter. (yeah yeah, I know - I'm probably better off without, but it seems to be a technical issue anyway. I even tried using x.com to no avail.) Works fine in Chrome, and I've disabled the website tracking and hide IP features, and private relay is off. Reboots/restarting Safari doesn't help. I had this weird issue with ESPN for a while with Ventura, but it hasn't resurfaced on my non-Sonoma device yet.

Any clue where are the new animated screen savers located? I downloaded some and would like to remove them. I looked into /Library/Screen Savers, ~/Library/Screen Savers, /System/Library/Screen Savers but no luck. I'm out of ideas.
