Yeah, it's going to be heartbreaking turning the page.

One thing is for sure. We are getting our money's worth!
Heartbreaking? Money's worth? This seems philosophically dubious.
A gadget stops working because a business has decided so about their own gadget.
Some guys on GitHub work against it. We support it. Adventure ensues! Until it does not.
Something along those lines? ;)

I was upset, sad, or something when the GPU quit on my 2012,27inch,Imac, especially after I took it to 2 dealers who said it wasn't worth fixing(because they did not want to do it I suspect), at one dealer I saw several later used 27incher's, but decided to try a 24 inch MI from Amazon refurbished(about 800.00), I soon sent it back and bought a late 2015, 27 inch, 5k for 300.00. I just liked the style, and size better, I am now happy that my beloved 2012 is gone, and I have a lot less trouble to deal with.

I am sympathetic I really liked my 2012

Well, I look at it this way. Like I look at audio interfaces in my studio. Technology waits for no one, and from 44.1 to 192 kHz, and 32-bit to 64-bit.

One has to ask themselves? when is good enough?

I'm still rocking on a Digi 003 console. Still make great music, while considered a dinosaur, but the clients love the results.

Stay up with technology at a cost. Or, play the system and squeeze every drop.

I just updated to Sequoia 15.7.

Nice vid.
Off-topic warning:
That is memory lane for me as I am now retired but have a lot of experience in pro audio and the
Mac hardware/cards and I/O combos of that era and we will likely not see that kind of adaptability and longevity with Macs ever again. I was using OCLP on that model with Logic and Pro Tools when I retired some years ago, loaded with PCI cards and SSD adapters.

Yeah I'm fully loaded with my 5,1 and beyond SSD's, and running Nvme blades.

Tahoe will be my last rodeo.

Will be moving onto an RME and a new Mac. Although I'm sure with a new Mac they probably will never have a shelf life in audio, like these tanks.

15 years and still going strong though.

Based on the latest video from Mr. Macintosh, he's not sure if Tahoe will ever run on unsupported Macs at all, and for supported Macs, he's not even suggesting an upgrade at this time. So, if Tahoe ever gets OCLP support, it probably won't even be worth it unless you have a recent Mac that just lost support at Tahoe.

I experienced Problems with updating OCL P from seq. V15.6 to 15.71 using OCLP V2.41, I was able to bootup v15.71 but the display output was not correct hence display incorrectly text display resolution and cannot display images only text and therefore cannot use the Macbook normally. My system is
15" Macbook pro with i7 made in 2015. It was functioning normally on version 15.6.

Please advise me how I can fix this problem; wait to reload a new sequoia version or by using my tinkering with the existing V15.71 and make to work normally. Any advice is appreciated as I am very new to using OCLP. Thanks in advance.

Have you done root patches in OCLP ?

Bad Luck

Getting this error when doing the step 12 Installing macos sequoia
"An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again"

Doing internet recovery now to reinstall big sur. Will try sonoma.

Btw does sequoia has a minimum ram requirement ? My macbook air only has 4gb ram.

Retry to install sequoia again and it work this round with the same USB.
not sure what went wrong earlier.

Hello, when I boot High Sierra with an external drive, I lose the boot picker icon. This is just a look issue, but do you know of a way to restore the correct icon ? On the next image, Catalina is correct but not Sequoia. Thank

You need to reapply root patches after upgrading macOS. If OCLP does not show up automatically, start the program and click "Post-Install root patch". After a reboot, your display settings should be restored.
Many thks to you it worked. The normal procedure for upgrading OS s/w version is as follows: wait for the new OCLP version advising me to upgrade OCLP first before I upgrade to new OS version. I performed this step before and it worked every time.
Thanks again.

Just for info. My old iMac 27" (11,3) from 2010 is running Sequoia 15.7.1 and OCLP 2.2.0. Have tried OCLP 2.4.1, but then it will not boot. I am happy as it is.
Also my MBP (11,5) is running Sequoia 15.7.1 and OCLP 2.4.1. After a couple of days it sort of freezes, but a restart cures it all. Any suggestions would be appreciated, but I can live with it.

I recommend reading through the Dortania documentation on their GitHub host site. Start here:

Same advice applies to all folks new to OCLP

And if you have never done it before you may consider setting up a deletable volume to practice with, it is not hard to do, and especially if you are interested in T26, there no patches for it yet. Irregardless have a backup.

I have the same mac and have not upgraded yet. Is the freeze when waking from sleep? I have had problems with that in the past on this mac. In that case I have a setting I can share.

Yes, when waking from sleep and I have to enter password, it writes one character and then waits for 10-15 sec. for the next and so on. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I tested a lot of settings with the command pmset and logged result. I concluded that setting standbydelaylow to 86300 worked for me. I use the mac every day, if you do not, you probably have to experiment with longer delays. My feeling is that this problem is somehow related to the mac having two gpu's.

You probably have two versions of OCLP installed!?

Moreover, be careful if you boot High Sierra. Do not mount the Sequoia partitions otherwise you risk damaging its data due to incompatibility between the two versions of APFS.

I bought a 21" iMac 2012 at a used shop for about $300 a few years ago. Opened it up, cleaned it out, upgraded the HDD to a SSD. Today (2025), it is one of my best Macs and I have many.

The 2012 iMacs were a year that was one of the best in my opinion at the time.

Thanks for the advice. I will change the settings as suggested and see if it solves the problem.
