Design
  • New Liquid Glass appearance.
Seems most are on topic. 🤷‍♂️

But moving on as it’s been discussed enough for me.
I guess it’s a fine line. Is pointing out misalignment of a UI feature a “little thing” or a bug? All the macOS little things have the “Does Finder still say Macintosh Experience” posts. That is a “little thing” or some object has been moved to a new location or a clever tool has been discovered or a command in Terminal now behaves differently. Those to me are “little things.” That’s all.

P.S. I find the UI discussion interesting and wouldn’t want it deleted. I guess I was just miffed to see “Post deleted: Off Topic” in my alerts lol

How is any of this “minimal”? In any way, how?

Narrator: it’s not.
if i look back thru all the versions of mac os since osx 10, i see a lot of (now) gaudy-looking UI elements, overstatement. but maybe that's just me. anyway, as with tahoe, i have no issues with GG (outside of essential fixes needed, as with any beta/update), and will let it go; i got thru tahoe unscathed, and will enjoy GG even more... despite the naysayers 👍

I tend to agree there have been many divisive/polarizing changes over the years (I still like the menu pinstripes and wish Apple allowed for an "old school"/Legacy theme but I digress). I mentioned this in another GG thread, but after using Tahoe for a year, I got used to the floaty sidebars, and now GG looks like it's missing something to my eye now. And I was absolutely not a fan of the floaty sidebars when I first saw them... maybe need to start a "Bring Back Floaty Sidebars" thread lol totally joking btw. But overall looking forward to the fine tuning GG is bringing.

P.S. Forgot to say that the change to Preferences/Settings was indeed more than just a gaudy looking overstatement. For many folks like @CDPlayer and myself included that was a major not minimal change.

That’s really interesting! Maybe a sign that they are rethinking the whole Full Screen logic and Fill is becoming the new intended “Full Screen”? (In that case why doesn’t Apple just hide the window borders when a window “Fill”s…… I feel this would be a more elegant way to resolve the whole corner situation)
Yeah maybe. Personally I am helping my mom switch to macOS and explaining the difference between "fill" and "fullscreen" and "stage manager" and "tiled windows" and "tiled fullscreen" is just... a nightmare.

What I hate the most about macOS window management: If I'm in full screen, why can't I show the desktop? Gotta grab a file on the Desktop and drag it into DaVinci Resolve in full screen? Switch to the nearest non-full screen space (maybe 3 spaces over if many of your apps are already full screen), then show desktop, then grab the file, then swipe back to Resolve, drop the file. Let's say you have to do this 10 times a day. It's ridiculous.

Why can’t you do that with a keyboard shortcut?

Is still there the bug where, once you make an app full screen, when you enter into Mission Control, that space appears without a wallpaper (just black) instead of having a visible wallpaper? It’s not been fixed in Tahoe yet…

Anyone have issues with Junk mail filtering in Mail?

Specifically, since installing the beta, my Mac has created a Junk email folder and seems to be automatically filtering and moving IMAP mail into it, even though I have Junk Mail filtering disabled on Mail's preferences.

Weirdness for anyone else?

I honestly don’t get why things like progress bars, checkboxes confirmation buttons, etc. don’t have a Liquid Glass effect.
Because Liquid Glass was poorly conceived. A psuedo intellectual, backslapping attempt from thick-rimmed glasses and carefully groomed "unpretentious-prentiuous" fashionistas who, for reasons best known to no-one, felt a digital version of liquid would be novel and exciting; before realising the concept itself wasn't suited to the vast range of control elements that were previously unproblematic on Mac, but too far developed to backtrack and start over.

GG is the biggest admission that Apple knows it failed, but are too proud to evolve the design 'language' into something actually beneficial to the user. The irony is that Apple's one big attempt to 'unify their experiences' failed immeasurably by virtue that the quality of experience on these systems isn't measured by consistency of appearance, but of quality.

As per tradition: all the little things and changes here and there in macOS 27 Golden Gate - post them (and pics) here! Let's keep this fun and positive! This is not a thread for bugs and troubleshooting, please keep it to new discoveries only.

mission control animations are out of whack this time, especially when there are external displays

A few little things that I believe have changed since Tahoe:

The "Show Desktop" feature now has rounded corners, and seems to account for the menu bar differently:

Appearance settings now has a shortcut to Accessibility → Display settings:

Also clicking the selected sidebar item now has feedback on mouse-down. I think this used to exist before Tahoe? Video:

They made the windows/apps stay in the same place in mission control!! Before Golden Gate if you enable "Group windows by application", every time you enter mission control, the windows would be reshuffled and change place. They are actually fixing ancient annoyances!!!

Yeah 26 years ago and phased out in 2014. Imagine that. Let’s see if Liquid Glass lasts as long and actually evolves the same way instead of reverting back to the old and adding a new customization option here and there in the hopes that’ll fix things.
what you personally would like, and where apple is (and is probably headed) are apparently very-different things. no harm in nostalgia, but things move forward, and we go with it 🤷
