Hello to everyone!
I'm new with Mac OS and have a problem with wi-fi. I deleted it by accident in system pref. > network. Now trying to configure wi-fi but I can't create. It just doesn't appear. But wi-fi is workin'

What should I do? A recovery? Or I have to disconnect from wi-fi at all and then in the network menu create a wi-fi?

MacBook Pro 16' catalina 10.15.4

Still waiting for help. I re-install OS - problem is the same. In the MacOS recovery wi-fi was showing up. Has anyone ideas how to fix this?

fixed.

Anyone having the bug in 10.15.4 where the dock still appears when you go to shutdown your Mac and during boot the Apple logo loading bar screen quickly goes black (flickers) and reappears just before the login window?
I’m having the same problem. Did you fix it?

I'm having a strange brightness issue as well, but only on my external display (an LG-34WK95C-W). My work MBP (15-inch, 2018) upgraded from 10.15.3 to 10.15.4 last night, and now the external monitor display is all washed out and most of the monitor options (directly on the monitor) are inaccessible. My personal 16" MBP (currently still on 10.15.3) works perfectly fine, picture on the same external monitor is fine, and I can access all of the monitor's display settings. I started a thread on the Apple forums (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251235703?page=1), but I almost never get good help there. It's definitely driving me slowly insane, though.

EDIT - This thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251213356 helped me resolve the issue. Took a bunch of restarting my MBP and resetting the monitor, but eventually the new HDR option showed up so that I could disable it and get my monitor functioning normally.

Don't know why this is a problem since Catalina. Just had to enter my Apple password 3 times only to download one free app. I'm getting asked everywhere to enter my Apple password.

My BTO 16 inch MBP arrived today and enjoying it greatly! Just found a bug in Catalina:

* I always download my documents folder offline as I have plenty of space. After completing the download, I see all my files in specific folders are downloaded correctly. However, the "cloud" shows on some folders, which shows BEFORE the files get downloaded (meaning they are only in the iCloud and not downloaded locally). I can actually still select the "Download Now" option but it doesn't do anything as they are already downloaded

I've mentioned this before, but it still annoys me somewhat! Not sure if anyone can help, as it's almost as bad as a needle in a haystack. But here is my issue.

Even since I "moved" to Catalina on both of my Macs, I've had this somewhat semi-occasional issue on my Mac Mini (late 2012 model until February 1st; late 2018 Mac Mini since). There are times where when I start up the Mini, my browser, Brave, is launched. Even less frequently, my EMail program, Thunderbird, launches. I do NOT have it "designated" anywhere for either of them to launch when I start up the Mini. But this does not happen at all on my mid 2017 Mac Book Air! For both machines, I do have it designated that a small application called Memory Clean 2 launches. But it is not obtrusive at all, and again, the "phantom" launching of either Brave or Thunderbird happens only on the Mac Mini, never on the MacBook Air.

Additionally, I ALWAYS quit all my open applications before I shut down either machine.

When I "moved" from Mojave to Catalina, OS 10.15.3, as I usually do whenever I move to a new Mac OS, after making a SuperDuper! backup of the last. clean prior OS system, I restart the respective Mac from that backup, use Disk Utility there to Erase and Format the internal SSD as APFS, launch the installer file for the new Mac OS, do a fresh, clean, "virgin" installation of the OS, then migrate/copy needed files, folders, applications, settings, etc. from that just completed backup. I then restart the respective Mac, and everything is good. Because I use Tech Tool Pro, I do have to use it to create its eDrive.

I also very recently used the OS 10.15.4 Combo Updater to upgrade to OS 10.15.4, but the issue still prevails.

Some might suggest using another default browser to see if the issue goes away. That would be a possible "solution", but again, sometimes it's Thunderbird that gets launched. And the other quirk, as I've mentioned, is that this phantom launching on the Mini happens infrequently.

Finally, I keep my Macs "lean, mean, and clean", and in fact, am only using about 35% of the space of the internal SSDs ("empty" sizes 256 gig in the Mac Mini, 252 gig in the MacBook Air).

Anyone have any thoughts, ideas, etc.?

Seems like there is a bug in OS 10.15.4, but not in OS 10.15.3. One of the things that is recommended before upgrading to Catalina is to check and see if one has any 32 bit apps. And the way to do that is provided by this:

For myself, that worked fine with OS 10.15.3, but since upgrading to OS 10.15.4, it does not work, ie, that "64 bit column" is nowhere to be seen. Not sure why.

But, there is an excellent free app that comes to the rescue, and that link mentions it: Go64. I downloaded and used it on both of my Macs, and it works like a charm.

I guess they removed it. If you are already on Catalina you probably already checked your software. The 32bit/64bit info is still in the details panel.

Just few annoying bugs on macOS 10.15.4:
  • The dock still appears when I go to shutdown my MBP
  • Sometimes last opened windows open again after reboot macOS. Work-Around: I need to wait 3-5 seconds after close my apps before shutdown the Mac so the file in ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.loginwindow is updated correctly.
  • Profile picture missing in Screen Time. With dark mode I can only see a solid grey circle...
  • In the Activity Monitor -> Network Tab: Data sent/sec speed is wrong (~double)

Hmm, for that second one, that happens sometimes on my late 2018 Mac Mini, but not on my mid 2017 MacBook Air. I'll have to try that.

I’ve sent some of these to the bug reporting portal. If you see anymore make sure you send it here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html

Whenever I restart my mac, it resets view options and windows size of main harddisk. I don't understand why. The rest of the system is Ok just only for harddisk? Is there anybody who has same problem?

I want to thank you for that astute analysis! I am happy to report that ever since I started waiting to shut down my Mac Mini after quitting my last used application (no other ones running), that when I start up my Mini, it boots to the desktop, as expected.

Thanks again!

It seems like Auto Dark Mode doesn’t turn on while using the Mac even with Nightshift Sunrise/Sunset on. Only if I put it to sleep and turn on, then it switches. iOS devices switches fine while using the device. I swear this used to work before seamlessly...

I finally upgraded to Catalina last week. Ever since, mDNSResponder has been consuming enough CPU cycles to keep the fans running (approximately one full CPU core utilized continuously).

Full details here: https://apple.stackexchange.com/que...ng-90-100-cpu-continuously-forever-on-catalin

I would greatly appreciate any advice or troubleshooting assistance. Thanks!

(BTW: I wasn't sure if I should make a new thread or just add to this one. 🤷🏻‍♂️)

I don't have much hope about sending feedbacks to Apple but I will try that again. I've sent these bugs:

* App Store still doesn't show latest app updates in the tab "updates"
* Messages app isn't always synced with iCloud

Yeah, found the same thing, glad it's not just me thinking it was working the way like iOS did. Not sure if this counts as a "bug" to Apple ;)

is there a description somewhere of what features a Mac using patcher misses out on? I have a MacPro 3,1, the patchers are great pulling me along for years. I know, for instance, that I can't get side car working...

sorry for one simi-related question, would replacing my video card (ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB) with a flashed 4870 with 1GB offer any benefit?

Sorry if others have mentioned this, but I can't find it so I'll ask. In the past two (non-beta) releases, every time I switch apps the new app is never in focus, despite appearing as much (correct window shading, cursor flashing etc) meaning the keyboard can't interact with it until I select somewhere inside the window with the trackpad. This is massively frustrating because I'm experiencing it over and over again.

Use case for illustration: I'm in Music and switch to Safari, then press CMD+T to open a new tab. All that happens is I hear the 'Funk' warning sound because no typing areas are in focus. I then switch to Telegram, where my cursor is flashing inside a message window, but if I start to type I again just hear the warning sound until I select inside the input field again.

I thought one of the apps with Screen Recording permission may be causing it, but nope.
