I had the same problem this morning after upgrading overnight. I found plugged my CamLink 4k directly into the MacBook, instead of my Thunderbolt dock, addressed the problem.
I'm in this camp with an m1 MBA. I've reached out to ElGato and OWC and waiting to hear back.

Having issues as well with 3 Logitech 4K's in OBS.

On my Intel mac in Big Sur, they could all feed in, in realtime to OBS, Now on my Intel 16in i9 MBP, and 16in M1 Pro, they are very delayed at 4K, OBS reports no issues with framerates, but the cameras are unusable unless I drop them all down to 1080p, sometimes I can get one up to 1440 24p.

They're fine with 1 connected, or even 2, but when there's 3 it all goes crazy.

This all worked fine in Big Sur.

Noticed where there used to be 3 options in Big Sur, for how the signal is compressed/sent from the cameras, now there is only one (NV12 422), unless I go below 1080, then I get YUV 422 as an option as well.

Have tried the Intel and Apple Silicon builds of OBS (Intel build on both Intel and M1 Pro machines), problem is the same, though M1 is a bit smoother at times, I think.

Plugging them into a hub or directly to the machine makes zero difference.

Seems to be something changed in Monterey, and it sucks for my work :/

My Logitech C615 started crapping out after installing Monterey. No longer works at all through my dock, even though the system recognizes it. It will work sometimes when plugging it directly into my 2019 MBP, but the Logitech Camera Settings app won't control it anymore.

Tried Logitech support and they casually started by saying that 'our webcam models are currently not compatible with MAC OS Monterey,' and that 'there is no exact timeframe on when the C615 will be compatible with Monterey as of this time.'

That seems a little sudden. And sweeping.

My problem with C615 was fixed by buying USB connector supporting USB 3.1 specification.

It’s definitely a Big Sur/Monterey issue.

I have two Logitech webcams. And 2 Mac Airs - one on big sur, the other Monterey.

They both work on Big Sur, neither on Monterey.
Raised with Logitech. They say there’s no software for Mac OS 12. But G Hub works fine in 12 with Logitech mouse and keyboard. Just the webcam that failed.

Try the 12.3 update for Monterey. I was having similar issues with my C615, but initial testing after the update has things working once again on my setup. (M1 Air with a C615 on a USB hub plugged in to a USB-C monitor port.)

Weird. Neither 12.x including 12.3 have broken my webcam (C615). But it sure messed with my airpod and microphone settings.

Can anyone with a Logitech BRIO 4K webcam confirm it can record properly at 4K with Monterey 12.3?
(it can't with previous Monterey versions)

I had to downgrade from Monterey to Big Sur to be able to record properly in 4K, hoping I can upgrade to Monterey again.

Good news, perhaps? Is it possible the the latest Monterey 12.3 has fixed this? For me, the Logitech camera that ceased working on my 2019 MBAir when I upgraded to Monterey now seems to be working. I have connected, removed and reconnected several times over the past day and each time FaceTime finds and can use the camera. This was not possible with the earlier versions. This would confirm UBN0 observations above.

I can't unequivocally attribute the change to the update because I did introduce a bit of a confound to the test. As the machine was going through the upgrade process I had the idea to plug the camera in while the machine went through the reboot and re-install process--in the somewhat naive hope that perhaps if it saw the device during install it might set things up differently.

In any event, it would be interesting to see if this possible good news holds up.

Have you tested with Monterey 12.3 yet?
I'm hoping the 4K webcam setting now works without delay.
(Do you have the Logitech BRIO 4K?)

4K Pro, same innards as a BRIO, different UUID, which made macOS act differently with it too at times.

I am absolutely going to see how 12.3 is now!

Think I have found a work around :p:p

Looks like anything other than a USB 3.1 (USB-C) or 3.0 (type-A) Gen1 cable just won't work properly. Even the Gen2 cable that dell supplied with my U3219Q monitor results in the built in Hub only running at USB 2.0 speeds. But, with a gen1 cable it runs at its full 5Gbps speed.

Have found this out by buying and swaping out a load of cables between my MacBook Pro M1 my dock, display and devices. My webcam now works.

Check out the USB section of System Report to understand what speed your Hubs and Devices are running at when connected.
I tried going into my M1 16" Max MBP with a USBC to USB adapter with my Logitech C925e and it reported 480Mbps (USB2). Same thing going into a 13" MBP with Big Sur. So that seems to be native for this camera. Any other insight on that?

I have the same issue. MacBook Pro 16" M1 Max. Monterey 12.3. I just got the Logitech C925e to sit atop my external monitor and it looked like crap which I did not understand. So what I discovered was mine works great with FaceTime, just Zoom (my primary video chat app) makes it look horrible. Zoom pins in on Apple but says they are doing what they can to fix it. One thought I had is to try something with an intermediate driver that works with the camera in software and then re-emits the image to apps. I vowed I would never use it, but Snapchat filter does this and my friends all use it. Tomorrow, Ill plug my camera into her MBP and see if it works through the snapchat filter. Im guessing you can turn on the filter but apply nothing to the image and it might just pass it through..

My Logitech Brio works fine connected into my 2013 Mac Pro (USB-C <-> USB-A), or via my LG 32UL950-W (USB-C <-> USB-C). I can control it, and I can use it in Teams, Facetime and Zoom.

HOWEVER, the 4K capturing app from Logitech (Logi Capture) does NOT work with Monterey. I am having to use OBS, and then I can record in 4K. Logitech says that they have stopped trying to make Logi Capture work with Monterey...

Same issues with 3x4K feeds from the 4K Pro/BRIO, was fine in Big Sur in OBS, but most of the codec/format options are gone in Monterey, likely maxes out some part of the pipeline bandwidth. Despite all of them reporting 5Gb/sec USB 3.1 connections.

Dear friends,

I have a Logitech c920e web cam that was working ok on my MacBook Air M1 with Monterrey OS, but suddenly it stop working, I was not recognized, by the way, I have my Mac connected to a Samsung ultrawide monitor, and the webcam is connected to one of the USB ports on the monitor.

After some time and troubleshooting I just changed the USB-C port on my Mac which only has two USB-C ports, so I just changed the connection from one to the other and it solved the problem.

Good luck!

Ojobson definitely solved the problem. It’s a cable issue. We have two different Macs and once we upgraded them to Monterey, our external web cam stopped working on both computers. Our PCs were still able to use the external webcam but every Mac we plugged in with Monterey would recognize that an external camera was plugged in but only show a black screen. We had gone through all of the most recent updates for Monterey and firmware updates for the camera to no avail.

However, after reading ojobson’s workaround, we swapped out the USB-C cable connecting the camera to the laptop for an older USB-C cable (it was the USB-C cable which originally came with our older MacBook Pro to charge the laptop). Once we plugged that USB-C cable in, the external webcam instantly appeared.

So you definitely, 100% need a Gen1 USB 3.1 (USB-C) cable to properly use an external webcam with Monterey. We got lucky that we had the original USB-C cable which came with our older MBP - I’m not sure how you would buy a Gen1 USB 3.1 (USB-C) cable but it’s definitely the answer.

Thank you ojobson!

Great find but craptastic for Logitech users who only have built in cables. But ostensibly those built in cables could carry higher than USB 2.0 speeds for 1080p? Not sure. You could certainly transmit a 1080p signal via USB 2 I think, especially one coming from a Logitech web cam.

Wow realtime follow - I was having this issue on the AverCam 540 4k Camera ($1000 camera) and I just now swapped the OEM cable it came with with a known good high speed USB data cable and it fixed it. From USB 2 speed 480mbit with OEM cable to to 5gbit confirmed and the image is 10x better of course. Amazingly done. So something happened with Monterey that made these cables suddenly appear lower spec and unable to carry the right data signal? What the heck happened?

I'm on Monterey 12.5 and just had this issue happen to me. Everything was working fine until I had to unplug the camera and now it isn't even recognized. What kind of cable did you find to work? Any chance you can send a link?

Just upgraded an MPB from Big Sur to Monterey 12.5 and fell into this apparent black hole. Have a Logitech 920x Pro HD Webcam that was working just fine under Big Sur, and all of the "hold you mouth like this" fixes I've seen discussed don't solve the problem. This model has a built-in cable, which may be the death-knell unless Apple fixes the problem on there end, which is plugged in to the two-port MBP via a Totu multiport hub. I've tried all three USB-A size ports on this hub with the same result (no connection). Has anyone found something that works using the 920 cable?
