kernel_task is eating up a lot on my m2 mac studio but usually settles down after a few minutes when booting up....
this is really bad, this shouldn't be happening. my karnel task gobbles up about 2gb every time after upgrading to 15.3. ****, i didn't back it up

thanks apple!

macOS 15.4 FIX THIS
What kernel task is causing this? Have you looked in Activity Monitor to see what the culprit is?

I've got a ton of various apps installed on both an Intel Mac mini and an M1 MBP and I'm not seeing any issues like what you're seeing, so I don't believe it's an issue with macOS itself. A runaway "kernel task" that's eating up memory like that is usually from a startup app that's somehow borked and needs to be reinstalled, or there's login extensions that need to be checked, or there could just be indexing that's still happening in the background (like was mentioned just prior, that it generally "settles down" after a bit).

If you can reinstall macOS over itself from a USB installer, I've found that that helps with a lot of random issues. On my M1 MBP when I installed 15.4, I noticed that it looked like my machine had just shut down after a bit, and I pressed the power button to "turn it back on", but it was still updating, just with a black screen. I left my Mac mini alone and it went through the same process and then came back up like normal.
