I don't think I will buy Parallels.
I use to support it then discovered it installed spyware and tracking by EtreCheck Pro and totally abandon it. This was a few years back...maybe 2017/2018.

Is anyone else having trouble using a VPN ONLY with Safari since this update?
Pretty much.

VPNs are absolutely wrecked on this one. Almost nothing works aside from Chrome. I can't even open Discord. Legitimately might be the worst beta they have ever released and that's saying something.

Going to try the Full Installer and pray.

I have Little Snitch installed and while the Installation of Windows in Parallels it wanted me to allow about 20 connection to several Microsoft servers of all kinds from Bing to Xbox Games. I think it there was even Microsoft SharePoint stuff before the installation of Windows.

In UTM and VMware Fusion I could install it without a single interruption by Little Snitch only when the installer was downloaded by VMware it needed one, that I allowed only until it was finished.

Running the Full Installer made no difference.

This **** is cooked. With my VPN on just about the only thing that works is Chrome it seems. Absolutely brutal.

I had, but not anymore. At least I think it's the VPN. It's in my Router and permanently turned Private Relay on and off again.

But that was only on my M4 Pro mini, not on the M3 iMac and I think it stopped with the first Beta of 15.4. It was in every beta and final version of 15.3.x since I have the mini. Luckily it's gone now.

What problems do you have and on what kind of Mac?

Is it Private Relay? Then you have to turn of either that or "Limit IP address tracking" in the Network settings for Ethernet and/or Wi-Fi. Maybe it helps.

I saw your comment and gave it a try. Didn't make a difference.

I already had it turned off, toggled it, no change. Also already had Limit IP address tracking turned off.

If I 100% kill Mullvad so that the main app isn't running and there's no background task running, things seem to work.

My last Time Machine backups were made on 15.4 Beta 1, and honestly I'm not even sure what the process for restoring my data would be to make sure I didn't end up back on 15.4 Beta 2.

I tested Mullvad too for a month last year. I wasn't compatible with Private Relay, but it just turned it off and on automatically and there were no problems with Safari. I stopped using it because I already had licensens for Adguard VPN and Proton VPN for a few years each. I a Wireguard connection of Proton in my Router, so that VPN is always enabled on every device.
It's still not running problem free, but better as using the apps. They often killed my connection without kill switch being on and then couldn't connect again, because there was no connection. Very annoying.

I just installed a newer test build:

What does "on cocoa" mean behind the Qt version?

@nmt1900

I now see this, when I want to create a new VM, so it seems to be supported. I'll try it later. Before there was no mentioning of Windows anywhere.

It's working with the pre-release version of VitualBox, but not very efficient...

After this and rebooting there was a "blue screen". :( And a black screen when rebooting. But I have no clue about all those virtualization applications. I only used Parallels back then because it was so easy.

Does anyone has some suggestions of ARM Linux distributions or BSD I could try as VM? Or whatever opensource is out there to give a try. I mainly search for privacy.

M3 Air. Since this new beta express VPN connects and at least in chrome it works. Safari (especially) simply won’t browse anything. Beta 1 was fine.

Ubuntu ARM64 can work on both Virtualbox and UTM. There's a catch - Ubuntu does not provide ARM desktop installer, but there's a way around it - download Ubuntu server ARM image and install ubuntu-desktop package on it after installation is finished.

UTM has ready-made Ubuntu VM for ARM available but I have not been able to get it to work.

If Private Relay is still on, try turning it off in the iCloud settings. Safari doesn't work if something isn't compatible with it. Normally macOS is turning it off automatically in that case. At least it's greyed out and there is a text, that it has been disabled. But that doesn't seem to work very often and you have to switch it off completely by yourself.

At the moment I can even use the Proton VPN client in addition to the VPN in the router and Safari is working normal. My problems seem to be fixed by 15.4.

These are my list that I actively maintain; however, I am still on 2018 Intel MBP... BU server is Ubuntu server, regular Ubuntu, two versions of pfSense one is the developing future version and the other is the current version. I had Windows 11, but it got corrupted and I didn't bother reinstall it as it had no license.

Sounds is missing in Mail notifications settings. No sound when new mail comes in.

I tried doing all of this, no result. Whats weird is that the VPN works using chrome, but Mac OS itself, and apple apps like safari or the app store stop working when the VPN connects. Ive tried changing settings on both sides, on Express VPN settings and the Private Relay, and also even on my wifirouter ( i use google wifi)...... maybe its the Beta, since my ios devices (also on beta), work well on the VPN.

It is 100% the beta, your symptoms are exactly what was happening to me.

Chrome seems unaffected. Just about everything else is dead in the water. You can't even check for MacOS updates, it comes back with a NULL result. Safari totally dead. Most apps all together dead. Kill the vpn and it works as normal. I've fallen back to my on router vpn, which is not ideal considering the throughput performance hit compared to running on my Mac itself. Should've waited a bit longer to see if there were VPN issues being reported, because it seems to happen fairly regularly with betas these days.

In conjunction with internal beta testing at my office, updated my personal machine to Beta 2 as well and....I too get to join the party! Same overall experience, Mullvad is VPN client as well but browser is Brave (Chrome based). And because I'm so naive realized unlike the old days, there's straightforward way back to stable like the old days.

The latest bug I have found is that Private Internet Access, my VPN of choice, is not working with the latest developer beta. I have uninstalled it, rebooted, downloaded the latest version and same thing. No internet access when it is running. I have reported it via Feedback Assistant.

Yup. I'm pretty sure the only way to revert to another version at all would be to completely nuke Mac HD, and then manualy piece together data from a Time Machine backup, again, fully manual.

From what I have understood, there is no route in which Time Machine/Migration Assistant will allow us to restore our data to any MacOS other than 15.4 Beta 2. My last Time Machine backup was made on 15.4 Beta 1, and I have since disconnected it so it makes no further backups until this is resolved. What a mess.

Thanks for the reply, nice to know its a local issue.

I know this too, that only Firefox worked and nothing else. Or sometimes no browser worked but the AppStore and Telegram worked. Very strange. But that was with an older Beta and other VPN.

Have you tried a different protocol?

Screenshot 2025-03-06 at 00.32.33.png

Or not using a double connection over two countries, if it's enabled? In Proton it's called "Secure Core" and there you can choose the protocol again.

Screenshot 2025-03-06 at 00.31.56.png

I just tried a little sometimes it worked and sometimes not. When I keep in on Smart (what chooses the best connection automatically it mostly works.)

When nothing works it even shows me OpenVPN as an option what is otherwise only as downloadable configuration files on their website available. Maybe you should try that. Almost every VPN provider has those.

Nah, didn't make a difference if I switched from using a Wireguard connection versus using an OpenVPN connection with either TCP or UDP. Still broken unfortunately.

Not sure if there are any VPN providers (legit VPN providers) completely unaffected?

Until 7.1 there was no Apple Silicon version of VirtualBox. When I looked for it in Summer or so there wasn't even one. But there were pre-releases since February I see now. And now this is again just a Prerelease version I updated to, that should support Windows 11 ARM. Maybe it works better in further builds.

I could just click on "I have no license" when installing and it worked for all VMs. Only VirtualBox wanted one before but you can enter what you want there and then later click you have no license. I wonder how long it is usable without license. I have now a two running versions in VMware and UTM. I will see how long they will work. The Parallels Trial will end soon.
