(I also dislike how this:

looks like a "back" button but actually behaves like an "up" button.)

Is there any way to change it back to the more intuitive and usable previous version? I really don't like the new settings UI. I never needed the search bar in the old one, no I almost have to use it. Really slows things down.

I mnade an account just to complain about this. The application is so bad.

I looked for "Keyboard" and as I use the down-arrow key to go down the list on the left. As soon as the focus hits "Keyboard Layout" a new window pops up. I am still scrolling through the list!

What is this? Why? Too many employees with nothing to do?

This is the stupidest thing a team of grown up experts designers has done ever.

So , here are the facts;
you have a 32" 5K screen, but you you have your "settings" panel in a really limited space, but enough to fit most of the data you want to show and you are pollishing the info and order for almost 20 years.

Then 5" screen are mainstream and the way to interaction with this smaller screens is totally different, so you decide to change 20 years of perfectionist work on the larger screens to fit the data as it would be the 5" screen, having 28" of wasted space while you have to scroll down almost every second to find anything.

why? who is the genius? are all Mac users so stupid we need the Mac System Settings be similar to the iOS one? aren't the iOS settings already a forced and limited adaptation of the far better old Mac System Settings??

why???

is impossible to find anything, info is scattered in 2 columns, smaller space and more complex disposal.

another "feature" they will ditch in 3 major updates (usually Apple doesnt react quick to its failures, they do slowly, doing it quick would be recognize they made a mistake)

Since it's been out for a while, the redesigned System Settings did take a little getting used to, but otherwise it's become a bit quicker for me to find certain settings I'm looking for, compared to with the old design where I had to look around a few times due to all those icons. And the search bar is also useful, too.

I guess someone in he desing team is having nightmares. I can see someone in the top comand chain decinding this horrror, and the poor lackeys suffering making smaller icons and forcing people to read AGAIN!!

do you remember when computers were just text no icons?? then icons came a long and spotting elements in computers was so much easier it was a revolution, as color in TV.

Then OS X come with 512px icons and the revolution was pushed fordward again. MS Windows adopted it, Smartphones are based in that system..

Then it OSX was reducing icons options and colors (small and grey dull icons in Finder's sidebar, Ventura's system preferences and a large ETC...) and computers slowly were adpting just text again!!!

I'm pretty sure macOS 15 will be just Black & White. maybe be will see even a phosphor CRT iMac!!!

Ditch icons! Help teenagers to read again!

the universe is not the only one who expands and collapse, so is Apple!!

Is it just me or does it feel like there is a delay when opening it? It was pretty much instant in Monterey.
This thread is about Ventura, right? Are you talking about Sonoma’s system’s setting?

And yes, you’re right, it is almost instant on Monterey, even on an old 2014 Mac mini like mine (with SSD).

Oh yeah I skipped Ventura. I’m using an M1 Pro 14 Inch.
