Let's hope that during the July the 19th conference call someone will ask the board about Apple's plans for the Mac Pro, or their professional market strategy in general.
I think MacPro is going to be marginalized by Apple, maybe would be extinct in a few years.
Right now, Apple would like most of their consumers to use:
1. iMac as desktop needs + MacBook Air for portability
2. Macbook Pro as your only Mac + Apple Cinema Display to have virtual desktop at home/office.
That's where their marketing plan going. Not to say MacPro is bad, it's excellent indeed, but surely not for majority of Apple's typical consumers
If there is a new update it will be a spec bumpThis thread is all very interesting but I just want a new Mac Pro to be announced. My early 2008 model was destroyed when we had a lightning strike a couple of weeks ago and the insurance has just paid put so I've got a lot of cash burning a hole in my pocket for a new Mac. I'm not buying a 2010 model when there's a chance of a 2011 model soon. The sooner the better, please.

Again, neither is fast enough for real Pro needs. I have a fast Macbook Pro for when I'm away from my desktop, and it can't keep up with my Mac Pro for the work I do.
People suggesting the iMac or Macbook Pro as a Mac Pro replacement really don't understand pro work, I think. See the "Mac Pro Overpowered" thread.
I mean, seriously, come on, if you really need POWER, the only way to go is IBM. Get a Power 795:

The only downfall, it might set you back about $4 million or so for that box spec'd out.
Well, Q2 figures are in and Mac sales are now just 18% of Apple's total. The iPad is at 21% and the iPhone is good for 47%.
I'm gonna restrain my expectations regarding the MacPro's future, and mentally prepare myself for life with a Win7 workstation.
