I have no bootscreeen with the GT120 on Mini DisplayPort with a 4K Display :( don’t no it’s a good idea to upgrade?

My monitor is a 3840x1080 display. Which is set to communicate at DP 1.2+ on the monitor side.

For HD7950, the boot process will stuck, unless I set the monitor back to DP 1.1.

For HD4870, the card can boot with DP 1.2+ setting, boot screen can consider available, but distorted. DP 1.1 is normal, of course.

For GT120, it shows boot screen normally with DP 1.2+, but the resolution is 1920x1080, only the middle part of the monitor is used.

GT120 don’t have DP1.2, so probably works. Please test and report if works.
Set my Screen to Display Port 1.1 on the 4K Benq SW271 connected to GT120 with Mini Display to Display Port to my Screen, was able to see the Bootscreen and update to MP510089.B00

just set my settings on the screen to 1.1 and was able to see the boot screen, but sometimes I need to switch from 1.1 to 1.4 and back to see the screen, have no idea why this is happening, I just have a blackscreen with the cursor, after changing, everything works fine

I did try to do a screen share to the MacPro from my laptop and it showed me moving the arrow cursor over a black screen. Is there another command or shell script I can run to tell if te GPU itself is recognized?
change your screen display mode to 1.1-1.2, helped me out

Nice and thank you so much!

I think I need to get one 8 to 6 pin converter for the 9100. I think it, oddly (to me), comes with one 6 pin and one 8 pin power plug, which is just weird.
Hey how is your experience with the WX9100? Would like to get one for my MacPro 5.1 please PM

So....now you've gone from a Titan XP to an RX 580 to a WX9100. Where I'm from the WX9100 costs around €1750, for the money you are haemorrhaging on upgrading a Classic Mac Pro you could build a Windows system that would run rings around it.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Classic Mac Pro and have upgraded it quite a bit. However, given your workflow (discussed in the other thread) your choices just don't seem economically viable to me. Perhaps you're absolutely loaded and money isn't an option...but even them I'm still left scratching my head at these choices.

As I, and other said in the other thread, cool your heals and wait until tomorrow's event. There's no point throwing money around when there may be something new on the horizon. I admit that the odds aren't in our favour, but after all...it's just one day.

To be clear, I'm not trying to be hostile to you rather that I'm trying to help you make educated choices.

I found a Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB Limited Edition for 500€ what about that, I am just really confused what I should get but I want my MacPro running don’t care right know about other systems, the Limited Edition would also fit very nice in the MacPro because of his silver case and I read the AMD card working really smooth with the mac whey switched from a nVidia card

Your Mac Pro 5.1 does not have enough power from the 2 6 pin mini supply’s from the logic board for a straight vega 64 install. You will need to run the card from an external power supply or damage your logic board you will.
[doublepost=1540815734][/doublepost]And sapphire pulse RX-580 is the best to get for a 5.1 running Mojave.

Okay thanks for the Infos, so then it will be a RX580 for 300€ it’s the best option I think with 48gb ram and 512GB 970 Pro and will save the money for the next system .... found a RX Nitro+ 580 8GB for 120€ will grap it for now and will see how it performs with that what I am doing for now

So I got it to work. It ran 3 of my 30" cinema displays just fine. But If I tried to plug in 4, 5 or 6 screens it would flip out. This likely has nothing to do with the video card. I think some capacitor on my now ancient 2010 cMP is going, and even with the native cards, I can now only run 5 of 6 screens. I need to take the machine in and maybe get a new mother board or powersupply or both. It's a very weird affect where if I just even plug in another USB device, it sends the current 5 screens blinking on and off and started like a year ago and I've been crippling along with the 5 screens just for productivity issues of not doing without the mac (praying a new mac replaces it).

Anyhow, going down from 5 to just 3 screens is something I cannot cope with right now, so I have the card mothballed until I get the underlying problem fixed, so outside of my 10 minute test with just 3 monitors, I cannot say much more than it seemed to work fine.

Ok, I would like to get two more years out of my 4,1 --> 5,1 Mac Pro. Ive installed a W3690, I have a AHCI drive in one of my PCIE ports, and I have a good USB3 card as well. So I am declaring this to be the last OS upgrade I will do on this machine. We are going to Mojave, and installing a RX 580 with a 4k monitor to support it. I also have to replace my WiFi card as it was last supported under Sierra (were coming from El Capetian).

My biggest concern going forward is my Bootcamp partition. Given it appears that Apple no long supports boot camp on my machine, I will have to find a 3rd party way of rebooting to and from it without the benefits of a EFI enabled video card. Ive got a few threads to read through on that front before I go forward.....

I have the RX 580 I pulled out of my eGPU (the "developer kit" one) that I've been using on my Mac Pro.

Today I did an update to Mojave 10.14.1; I recall the whole Mojave update from High Sierra was a blank screen, but I now get the boot Apple logo, progress bar, and everything.

Did Apple do a change of some sort?

Many thanks to Alex et al for this guide. Upgraded my grafix card, along with Mojito, this evening. FWIW, I suppose along with the new 10.13.6 update that Apple released on Oct 30, they also updated the new bios firmware version to 140.0.0.0 (vs 138.0.0.0). This is what I experienced Nov 2, at least. Card install & upgrade was flawless, thanks to your guide. Cheers.

From 10.13.6 (MP51.0089.B00), just updated a secondary ssd to 10.14.1 (140.0.0.0.0) with conversion to APFS.
Absolutely flawless process......:D
Really like the look of Mojave.
