I lost 4% battery writing one post and 5% writing another post in the space of 10-15m on my iPad. The safari loading wheel is active most of the time even when the site is fully loaded.
I thought I was getting crazy last night when my 12 mini suddenly started getting extremely hot while browsing the forum, and lost 10% battery in the space of 10 minutes. As soon as I changed website, the phone stopped getting so hot and the battery drained stopped.

Tap the three dots to the right (and next to) the down arrow > tap the parenthesis icon (which is to the right of the eraser icon) to toggle BB Code on and off. It works the same on the Mac.

Hey, it actually worked with the double “return” press! Hopefully those other issues are fixed as well. Thanks!

Editor issues u fortunately are outside of our ability to fix. Questions about excess battery usage we are looking into.

Can you send me screenshots of your settings -> battery stats showing that

Sure, not sure how much it’ll help, here you go.

As you can see the time i posted my post yesterday, it happened around 8pm yesterday, 2 post and i lost around 9% battery.

Another update for you, haven’t been browsing these forums on my iPad today and I’ve gotten a extra 56m usage, yesterday at 70% battery i had 2h usage, today at 70%, 2h56m Usage.

You can also see the 24h battery level graph, left side of the battery level graph was going down a lot quicker yesterday when I was on the forums most of the day, today on the right battery level is going down a lot more slowly.

I remember when we were talking about this same issue last summer:

Good find. I couldn't remember the name of the forum member who gave me the tip back then. I see it was you. :D
Oh, ha, well I didn’t remember that part but I did remember what a weird problem it was until we figured it out.

Yes I have this problem on my iPad. It’s not MR specific but rather XenForo specific.

What’s this? 🤔 and can this forum battery drain be fixed?
It's the forum software that MR uses.

There's a thread here about battery drain

Now that you point it out, I do notice excessive battery particular when commenting on MacRumors vs commenting on Reddit.

My battery is dropping fast (although it’s because my iPhone 7 battery needs to be serviced), but I can see it draining more with MR than Reddit

Strange how it's only happening on iOS/iPadOS devices and not macOS, hopefully the support staff is onto it.

Well, this thread got me wondering what might be going on when visiting MR. As it happens, I run an automotive-related forum (for the past 20 years) that also uses Xenforo. I decided to look at CPU usage difference from when I'm browsing my own XenForo forum vs MR. As you can see from the attached screen shots (first has Safari highlighted while only having my own forum. The second shows Safari while only browsing MR. There is a huge difference in CPU % while browsing MR. I don't know what all MR has installed as plug-ins (Add-ons) but it could be that some of those, and/or all the advertising with trackers they have that could be causing us use more CPU to process while on this site.

Safari with my XenForo site running is highlighted - 1.2% CPU usage.

Safari while browsing only MR - 36.6% CPU usage.

Nice investigation work mate 👌

I just checked Activity monitor on my 12" MacBook with Safari on MR, and my CPU is also 1.2. The screenshot now shows lower than that. I do have tracking and ads blocked.

Not having these issues on my M1 MacBook, only iOS/iPadOS, hmmmm 🤔
