I was parousing the Apple Website Store today and came across something completely meaningless and random but may have something to do with the Macworld coming up

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/mac_accessories/memory?mco=MTE4NTk

Look at where its got the Macbook Pro memories for sale, 5th item down, they used to have a picture of the 15" Unibody next to an older 17" Macbook Pro but now they just have one Macbook Pro Unibody image there, does this mean new Macbook Pro 17" 's will be coming out for sure this Macworld? id take a bet it does.

I'd believe that. After all, Apple isn't always the smartest when it comes to their webmasters.

I think at this point we can assume the following:

  • Snow Leopard Preview
  • iLife / iWork '09
  • New iMacs
  • New Mac Minis

There is also the possibility for the following:

  • No more DRM'd music on iTunes
  • iPhone Memory Upgrade
  • iPod Touch Memory Upgrade
  • iPhone Nano

Personally I don't buy into the iPhone Nano rumours, sounds outright stupid to me. But with all the recent rumours, I suppose I have to consider it as a possibility.

I think this would be huge if it happens. Huge.

Based on recent rumors, I'd predict...
  • Updated iMacs, probably with quad-core
  • Redesigned or at least updated Mac mini
  • iPhone nano
  • Snow Leopard demo/preview
  • LED Cinema Displays
...and probably...
  • Home server
  • 17" MacBook Pro
  • iPhone 3G / iPod update
...and unlikely...
  • Blu-ray
  • Apple tv update
  • Time Capsule update
  • 133 MHz CPU bump to 15" MacBook Pro (if the 17" MacBook Pro is announced with the Q1 2009 new Intel CPUs)
  • Shake successor ("Phenomenon") (due to no rumors)
  • Mini-tablet (iPhone OS Extended) (come on, AppleInsider... specific date please)
  • Tablet (Mac OS X + touch) (whatever happened to the October rumor?)
  • iLife/iWork '09 (I want it but there just hasn't been rumors on it)
  • 133 MHz CPU bump to 13" MacBook (alright, now I'm really pushing it)
  • "xMac" :rolleyes::D
  • Netbook

An iphone nano would be stupid. If apps can't run on it. They rely on the app store for profits. I bet Apple purposely started this rumor to get back at the previous leaks (not really but that would be funny).

I predict:

Snow Leopard Showoff
iPhone software update (to be released at same time as updated iphones)-bug fixes, push?
iPhone hardware update (add 32GB--start selling red! maybe end of white? or even more colors?)
iMac and Mac Mini updates -- Nvidia chips! Four-Core option in high-end iMac?

Apple has, in the recent past, sometimes updated computer lines just before major events. Many of the posts in this thread mention that everything they'd like to see happen on 1/6 would be too much for a single keynote. Putting this pieces together makes me wonder whether there will be an iMac and/or mac mini update later today, the last Tuesday before the keynote. What does anyone else think?

The back of beyond.
I reckon the iPhone nano is fairly likely based off the recent evidence. I have published some predictions for next year

My co-writer reckons an Apple TV update which may also appear in the Schiller-note.

Good logic, even though it didn't happen. I also see the end of January as a time for imminent updates that didn't happen at MWSF.

And given the Gizmodo story, I'd say Steve Jobs will appear for a brief moment with a mention about his health, if he is healthy.

Still pretty quiet for a week away from an Apple event. There better not be any iPhone game demos.

You can just wait before opening.

But I doubt this will be an iphone event. This is going to be a Mac event.

I'm getting worried about how quiet it is considering it's only 6 days away from the Macworld Keynote.

I have finally decided to get an iPhone 3G and I am just itching to buy one, but I really don't want to buy it before Macworld.

Does anyone think (other than an iPhone Nano), there'll be any updates to the iPhone or changes to the price of the PAYG one in UK?

i think we may see a cheaper netbook ideas, like the Asus E PC.s The MB, MBP, MBA are just too expensive to encourage ppl to buy a mac, when they know nothing about them. like a switcher wouldnt switch if he could buy 4 dells for the price of 1 Apple. Especially with the "economic climet" the world is raving about at the moment, also apple don;t want to loose money to other cheaper companies. I really think they have the power to put something out there, they just waiting for the right moment.

Also if Steve is leaving or whatever they really need something big to announce to give the press and the clients the extra hope that the company will be able to cope and feel the same without him. So i think we may see a smaller cheaper laptop thing. I hope anyway.

also i recon, snow leapard will be a main point, mac mini updates maybe solid state HDD. and other small things not worth thinking about. iLife could be talked about as well maybe.

yeah i would definitely wait if i was him and didn't buy it but what about if you already bought one. will leaving it shrink-wrapped avoid the 10% restocking fee or do I have to pay it regardless? is there any difference between waiting a week or just going ahead and activating it now?

My 2 Cents

We already know that updated displays are coming. Jobs said so himself. Maybe they won't introduce it at the expo, but I can't imagine them waiting an entire additional year to refresh. When the refresh the Monitors, they have to refresh the MacPro line so that the currently shipping MacPros will work with the displays. They will also have to refresh the MacMini Line, or ship them with an adapter because some people will want to be able to "bring their own display." Either that or it will have to have both types of ports on them.

If Apple WAITS on BluRay it would be a mistake. It may be their undoing as the professional industry not only needs to be able to watch BluRay on a supposedly Professional Machine, they need to be able to completely author one. If the PC beats them to this it would be a mistake.

They better have an update to iMovie and the iLife suite as there are now apps on the PC that kicking iLife's butt.

An iMac update is not that important as it's been updated already several times.
