- iLife 09 iWork 09

- 17" Mac Book Pro update with dual core 2.8 GHz standard and dual FW800 ports.

- New Apple Cinema Pros with matte screen option and built in ICC profiles.

- Bumps and what not for the toy hardware.

- maybe, just maybe an iPhone on a much better network, but I know I am only dreaming. There won't be a 4G iPhone since AT&T can barely get their 3G working right.

Interesting predictions. But do you think iLife/iwork will be updated so soon? Last time they skipped a year...

Also, what makes you think dual FW800?

I hope you're right about the displays, but I doubt Apple will have a matte option.

And yes, you are dreaming about a better network...

Anyway, interesting predictions, as always, Digital Skunk.

Yeah, you know they're just pipe dreams.

I have a feeling that Apple would rather release proprietary GFX cards for the Mac Pro than give us Cinema's made for Mac Books. But, I just can't get this question out of my head:

"If the new Cinema is made for the Macbooks, and has a magsafe cord attached to it, how would that be effective for a desktop user?"

I don't think dual FW800's would go on the 17" since you can daisy chain them, but some peripherals don't have two FW800 ports for chaining, so that's another pipe dream there.

I am still in the Sprint/EVDO camp when it comes to the iPhone. Wonderful device, I will wait until Rev Q to get one, or at least until Sprint just folds in on itself and ceases to exist.

If the new ACD is made for the MacBooks, why does it have an iSight? The MacBook has one. And yeah, the magsafe cord has no place for a desktop.

I'd love to see new matte displays but I just think it's becoming increasingly clear that Apple is diverging away from the Pro market and is more focused on consumers.

My iPhone 3G is on Fido...reception pretty much the same as what I got on my old RAZR (Telus), maybe a bit worse. The phone is awesome, save for the battery life. You can't walk around all day with 3G, push e-mail, and GPS on or you won't make it past lunch.

For some reason, there are users that want to use their notebooks with the lid closed when they attach them to external displays. Personally, I'd like to have two monitors and such for my work, but some people probably just don't multitask as much. Hence the built in iSight and speakers.

Much is the same for many 3G phones I hear. I don't have an issue with my Sprint ones, and they automatically switch between 2G and 3G (EVDO) when I make a call or go online which is cool.

I predict new or at least some sign that Apple still cares about the mini, and a updated Mac Pro.

Well, there's some TV news coverage on MWSF, but Macworld's Keynote isn't broadcast on TV. However, if you wait a few hours after the event, Apple posts the keynote on Apple.com for you to stream, and then a bit later allows you to download the video.

Correct indeed. Mac Rumors will provide live coverage so you'll know what's happening as it happens if you stick around on this website. there's also a spoiler-free link to the streamed keynote that MacRumors will send to you if you want.

How does one actually get to go see the keynote live?

Ok so I have a really dumb question. Is it possible for apple to release blu ray for their macbook pro? I just purchased a macbook pro because I gave up on waiting for apple to put blu ray in their products. Now, I am no expert but you guys are. Is it possible for apple to release blu ray on their laptops during macworld?

Not immediately after Steve compared Blu-Ray to a bag of hurt.

There won't be BR on the Mac Book Pros anytime soon.

p.s. None of us are experts in this stuff. Experts in our day jobs yes/maybe/likely/so we say.... but no where near experts on many of the topics we speak of here. Take what everyone says with a spoonful of salt and research research research!

where is this link?

Check MacRumors the day before the keynote and you'll be able to give your e-mail address and MR will send you an e-mail with a link to the spoiler free version of the keynote.

Possible, yes. Likely, no. As Digital Skunk said, Steve recently bashed blu ray.

I have own a PS3 which is an excellent blu ray player, and the quality is incredible - much better than a DVD - but the problem is that it's DRM'd to hell, and as Jobs said, the licensing is really complicated. Apple is trying to diverge from physical media and is promoting movie downloads/rentals on iTunes.

Apple wants you to rent your movie to watch on your glossy-screen MacBook, haha.

I'd like to add a small amendment to my prediction:
In the iPhone portion of the keynote, Jobs will announce the release of Push notifications and there will be App demos that show the use of this new feature.

Otherwise, I continue to go by my predictions. I think most people hope for too much stuffed into 2 hours. I'm trying to demonstrate some restraint in realism.

Here's my amended prediction:

10 mins - Overview of new MacBooks, further emphasis on "revolutionary" unibody construction
5 mins - Introduction of 17" MacBook Pro
5 mins - iPhone year in review
10 mins - iPhone3G update (16GB and 32GB; new colours)
10 mins - iPhone Push notifications released. Developers show Apps with Push to be released in concert with the iPhone update
60 mins - Snow Leopard in depth overview; Demo; final feature list; release date announcement
20 mins - One More thing: Mac Mini completely overhauled. New enclosure (aluminum + black glass top, Time Capsule/tv footprint), new MacBook like specs, DisplayPort, includes tv interface.

It's becoming increasingly clear that Steve Jobs will announce that the entire iTunes catalogue will move to iTunes Plus (no DRM, higher bit rate). I'm not sure where that will fit in my predicted keynote schedule but this is a big ticket item that has to be announced at such a venue as Macworld.

As of yesterday, there was no Keynote address on the schedule. Some are worried that if Steve does not make a Keynote Address this coming January, there will be no event in January 2010.

 oh no, no macworld announcement?!?! OMG Steve must be super super ill, quick, someone spread the rumour that he's not recovered from cancer despite the overwhelming proof that he has and the multiple occasions where he has stated that he is of sound health.

Macworld 2009 Keynote --- WHEN will it be?

I'll be attending my first Macworld Expo in January and have been trying to find out when the Keynote will be held. Do they usually keep its time and date a secret or is it announced in advance? Would it most likely be held on Monday or Tuesday?

Will I be able to get into see the Keynote live (as opposed to on a live feed in an "overflow" space)? I'm registered for 'Hands on MacLabs'. Will this allow me to get into the venue itself?

To be fair, it was only about half a year. If Apple decides to go for a 1.5-year cycle, the MWSF would be a likely release date.

Could this be the reason why almost every system was released before Macworld and now we're hearing no rumors whatsoever?

The term "Macworld" has grown to be unrepresentative of the majority of Apple's business. Apple does Mac, but they also do iPod+iTunes, iPhone, tv...

Maybe we'll begin hearing from Steve at Apple scheduled special events from now on.

Nonetheless, I'm still ambiguous about this and I think that if Apple were to drop out of this longstanding tradition of having a keynote address at MWSF, they'd put out a press release explaining their direction to avoid sparking rumors of the company's or its CEO's decline.

Quick MWSF / iPhone thought out loud:

The iPhone at some point, potentially might need to update it's screen (e.g. OLED, but also resolution).

Would they bring out a mini iPhone, which had a different resolution, then basically hint that the v3 iPhone will have a higher resolution than currently, to get developers ready for it? (I'd imagine resolution independence is a bridge to be crossed a wee while after the developers have been told about it).

It's almost too quiet, just a few weeks before MWSF...

Jobs will be there

I'd be shocked if Steve didn't make an appearance. If he didn't Apple stock would drop like a rock and rumors of his demise would swirl like a tornadic tsunami demolishing all other news coming out of the event.
