I think that most of the things mentioned on this thread could happen, but you have to remember that there are not that many updates that happen at one event.

Here are my predictions:

  • The Mac Pros will be updated a week or two before MacWorld (like it was this year).
  • The iMac and Mac Mini will be refreshed. The iMac will only see spec changes, the Mac Mini will see an aluminum body with spec changes.
  • iLife '09
  • Snow Leopard preview.

Apple will announce that they bought Microsoft and hired Steve Balmer to be the head janitor. The next step will be to stop selling Windows and substitute Snow Leopard as the operating system on ALL computers sold world wide.

That would be nice to see... but I think you're wrong on one thing. Steve Balmer won't be the head janitor, he'll be fired instead.

I just hope that steve jobs doesn't decide to announce a successor or stocks might take a real dive this time. Or at least, his successor is likely person to take the helm:eek:

Realistic Predections...

I'll try to stick to realistic predictions:

10mins - Overview of new MacBooks, further emphasis on "revolutionary" unibody construction
5 mins - Introduction of 17" MacBook Pro
20 mins - iPhone3G year in review (developers show upcoming apps)
5 mins - iPhone3G update (16GB and 32GB; new colours)
60 mins - Snow Leopard in depth overview; Demo; final feature list; release date announcement
20 mins - One More thing: Mac Mini completely overhauled. New enclosure (aluminum + black glass top, Time Capsule/tv footprint), new MacBook like specs, DisplayPort (w/ included HDMI adaptor), includes tv interface.

I'd like to see tv taken seriously but MacWorld is probably not the venue for this. I'm counting on a April/May tv3 event.

In order, Blu-ray? No. Nehalem Mac Pros? Yes.
New displays? Nope.
The MacBook and MacBook Pro are going to be updated this month. We will, however, probably see an Air update at MacWorld.
The iMac... nah.
The 32GB iPhone will be released at the same time as the 64GB iPod touch.
New computer? Keep dreaming.
No new Mac Mini yet.

Heck, no, CEO!

You mean the MacTablet? Nope.

Still Combo Drives.
No price cuts.
No tablet yet.
Expansion to what?
No Blu-ray.
OS X App Store would rock.

Someone was a little far off!!!! :)

MacWorld is going to be a big day for AppleTV as Apple really makes the play to take over the living room and media throughout the house. Networked media, accessible from wherever you are...in the house or in the world. Playable on whatever networked device you want to us... as long as that device is an Apple that is.

I really don't think we're going to see a Snow Leopard preview, it's more the sort of thing that you'd see at WWDC.

Well, Snow Leopard already had its WWDC preview. At this point, Apple should be ready to show it on a public forum, just as many other versions of OSX have traditionally been.

I have no doubt that Snow Leopard will be very prominent at the MacWorld keynote. Everything else is up in the air.

MacWorld Expo 2009 Predictions

Hopefully, I'll be able to link back to this post in January after Apple announces the following:

* The App Store will offer Mac software. Apple didn't name it the "Touch Store." It made that mistake once before with the ITMS, later dropping the MS. Apple won't need to change the name of the store to sell Mac software. The big draw, of course, will be automatic updates. It'll be a tough day for VersionTracker.

* AppleTV will merge with Time Capsule. Think about it. One device that (1) creates a WiFi network, (2) backs up your Mac(s), and (3) plays iTunes content through your home theater system. Airport + Time Capsule + AppleTV + AirTunes. No DVD player though.

Thoughts?

Interesting point...maybe they will throw the Mac Mini into the soup as well.

Hey, just wondering what you all think Steve will come up with next!? Post your predictions here. An iTablet, new mac pro with Blu-ray, all aluminum macbooks (could be this year), or anything else? Thanks!

I just got from the Apple store and saw their sales prices. First of all, though the prices will come up back to normal at some time, one thing Apple could do is to reintroduce all those sale prices as standard a MWSF.

They already had a classic iPod I had never seen with a larger hard drive which could hold an insane amount of info/songs. And the Macbook will have firewire, of course, whether there is a real need or not, but the sheer outrage from many Mac users will probably force Apple's hand.

There was a call, in the past, to make the clamshell get firewire at one time, and DVD, and those were considered pro features, but Apple claimed they listened to us and delivered.

What will be coming at MacWorld 2008?

Little over a month to go and nothing on the rumor front.

What do you guys think will be announced at MWSF 08?

My thoughts:

– iWork '09 (10.6 only)
– iLife '09 (10.6 only)
– Snow Leopard release date announced.
– New iMacs
– a multi-touch Mighty Mouse?
– Major improvements to Mobile Me and perhaps some new features.
– And probably the "One more thing" some kind of new form factor Mac mini?

Personally, I would love to see an third gen iPhone with a 5MP camera, but I don't think a new iPhone will be out until June.

I'm not too sure about ilife and iwork, but i sure hope we hear a little something about snow leopard.

As for the iPone update, i think its well too early for that, though it would be nice :p

I think the things that i will be surprised if they don't mention/upgrade would be the mac pros and the mac minis. Somethings gotta happen with those minis.
I wouldn't be surprised if the imacs aren't updated til january for the new processors (actually, i just remembered that MWSF is in january, so this could be part of the main announcements)

I'm rooting for a new Mac mini to be announced. I want one for the parents and one for the den.

- iLife '09, iWork '09
- 10.6 given a rough release date
- Updates to iMac, Mini, Power Mac sometime in Jan
- Maybe the iTunes Plus announcement if it hasn't come by then.
- ???
- Profit

iLife and iWork '09 versions.
10.6 announcements.
Mac Mini and iMac redesigns.
SLI implementation for the MBP unibody?
17" MBP redesign.
New ACDs (not 24")?
Mac Pro with Nehalem/Core i7?
iPhone/iPod touch updates?
iSight HD?

The list goes on and on...

Why would they release an iSight HD if they're building iSight cams into the new displays?

I have to say that for me Apple's software is just as important as the hardware. I think they have a solid hardware lineup right now so I'd love to see big updates to iWork and iLife, especially if they include stronger web/cloud components.
