I think that most of the things mentioned on this thread could happen, but you have to remember that there are not that many updates that happen at one event.

Here are my predictions:

  • The Mac Pros will be updated a week or two before MacWorld (like it was this year).
  • The iMac and Mac Mini will be refreshed. The iMac will only see spec changes, the Mac Mini will see an aluminum body with spec changes.
  • iLife '09
  • Snow Leopard preview.

Great list I think your right. I hope everyone will be able to get iLife 09 update for free.

AppleTV update
Mac Mini update - 2GB ram minimum, new Mb graphics card - or merge with AppleTV

iLife 09...?

Mighty Mouse replaced with a iPod Touch/iPhone like (maybe a big bigger) clickable multi-touch pad (iTouch?) so your desktop has the same interface as the Mac portable line. Maybe a wired backlit keyboard with same touchpad...

iMac quad core high end machine, iMac line gets new MBP graphics

Lots of time on iPhone - App store

SnowLeopard stuff

MacWorld is going to be a big day for AppleTV as Apple really makes the play to take over the living room and media throughout the house. Networked media, accessible from wherever you are...in the house or in the world. Playable on whatever networked device you want to us... as long as that device is an Apple that is.

I don't know what it will be, but I am sure that Blu-Ray will not be a part of it. Jobs is right. Optical media is dying a slow death, not rising.

I... love... this... floor buffer!

I lol'd :p

I think people need to hone in what predictions they have, or separate between announced and silent updates.

Here's my refined predictions:

Announcements:
  • (If they've been released by Intel yet) Core i7s in the Mac Pros
  • Bump in specs and case redesign for the Mac Minis
  • Possibly push notifications on the iPhone (this one's more hope than anything else)
Silent:
  • MacBook Pro 17"
  • 20" ACD gets the LED ACD design (hopefully adapters are provided so it can be used with a Mac Pro out the box...)
  • iMac spec bump (Paying £800 for 1GB RAM and 128MB VRAM is a bit poor, could do with bumping a little)

Plus all the usual Mac & iPhone sales talk they put out every year.

I really think they need to add touchscreen to the iMacs/displays. I've been seeing a lot of ads for the HP Touchsmart screens and every time I do I think, "that should be an Apple product." IMO the 'wow factor' has gone out of Apple computers.

I hope they will release a new mac mini.... but I predict, that they will release a updated/new mac mini, with the new penryn 2.4GHz CPU with 1066MHz frontside bus 3MB shared L2 cache

up to DDR3 ram 1066MHz SDRAM and such

and the new NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB of shared DDR3 SDRAM! the new apple mini display port... and yeah! that's one thing that I long for... I don't have a mac yet and I want one like crazy.... and snow leopard talk maybe? and other stuff.... but I just want the new mac mini! (unless they upgrade say the imac to some degree faster than the mini...)

I don't think I missed anything on the mini but yeah... to excited about it to think of snow leopard or anything else...

:apple:

I'll try to stick to realistic predictions:

10mins - Overview of new MacBooks, further emphasis on "revolutionary" unibody construction
5 mins - Introduction of 17" MacBook Pro
20 mins - iPhone3G year in review (developers show upcoming apps)
5 mins - iPhone3G update (16GB and 32GB; new colours)
60 mins - Snow Leopard in depth overview; Demo; final feature list; release date announcement
20 mins - One More thing: Mac Mini completely overhauled. New enclosure (aluminum + black glass top, Time Capsule/tv footprint), new MacBook like specs, DisplayPort (w/ included HDMI adaptor), includes tv interface.

I'd like to see tv taken seriously but MacWorld is probably not the venue for this. I'm counting on a April/May tv3 event.

this looks like the real thing to me.
I hope they will announce MacPro's with i7, more ram, more HD, but I guess apple will silently upgrade the MP's later in Feb/march Just as theydid last year. Two months after I bought my 4 core MP
But I fear it is all going to be about the rubbish they also sell.
Lame Apple TV, who needs that anyway,
mac mini, okay, to convince my dad maybe,
the incredible overpriced 3G thing,
tapping on the unibody, yeah whatever, if you have to dedicate most of the Notebook event to a productionproces ... guess they don't have anything real to say. ...
don't expect to see your AAPL shares going up I'm afraid.

Would be nice to see some real new inventions for a change though.

The mac mini would be awesome... cuz it world be a cheaper mac while saving for like a mac pro rather than buying an imac...

1. when is Macworld 2009?
2. what is all these rumors about an "iPod Stick"? any proof of this being a possibility (camera/flexible touch screen etc.)? or was someone trying to say what they want?

1. A 3 second google search gave me this http://www.macworldexpo.com/ (Does no one bother to search anymore?!)

2. No that was most probably false, the spec list is off the chart, it doesn't make any sense... It lists off a bunch of techs that are being researched, not fit for consumer use...

I'd like to add a small amendment to my prediction:
In the iPhone portion of the keynote, Jobs will announce the release of Push notifications and there will be App demos that show the use of this new feature.

Otherwise, I continue to go by my predictions. I think most people hope for too much stuffed into 2 hours. I'm trying to demonstrate some restraint in realism.

Hopefully, I'll be able to link back to this post in January after Apple announces the following:

* The App Store will offer Mac software. Apple didn't name it the "Touch Store." It made that mistake once before with the ITMS, later dropping the MS. Apple won't need to change the name of the store to sell Mac software. The big draw, of course, will be automatic updates. It'll be a tough day for VersionTracker.

* AppleTV will merge with Time Capsule. Think about it. One device that (1) creates a WiFi network, (2) backs up your Mac(s), and (3) plays iTunes content through your home theater system. Airport + Time Capsule + AppleTV + AirTunes. No DVD player though.

Thoughts?

Best predictions I've read so far, imho.

Here are my predictions and "long reaches":
- iPhone coming to VZW
In order for iPhone to significantly increase marketshare is to add another network. There have been some unsubstantiated rumors and whispers on this. I think (for once) this could be for real.

- iPhone 32GB
I think this is a given.

- We'll see something on Snow Leopard

MP stuff is not for MacWorld. (It's a professional workstation and MW is for consumers.) I think that will be a silent update a week or two before.

Plenty of talk about how awesome the iPhone is ... again.
Bump is 16/32/64. (More wishing on the 64.)

Talk about how awesome the unibodies are

Updated specs on the Laptops and a rev B to fix some issues. Maybe $100 less, but I doubt it. Apple is still selling them.

Updated ACDs. I wonder if the reason they weren't done before was because of a panel issue. (Maybe too little in production or too pricey or something else.) They need the MiniDisplay Port at least.

Update Mac Mini (Consumer event, consumer product.)

iLife/iWork 09

One more thing:
thumb463x_imac-dock.jpg

MacTab + Dock for home computing. I think we're getting closer to this, given the new ACD.

MP stuff is not for MacWorld. (It's a professional workstation and MW is for consumers.)

Not true. In past Macworld keynotes, Steve Jobs has used his presentations to talk about the "Professional Desktop" machine. Most notably was at Macworld San Francisco 1999 when the new 1999 PowerMac G3 took up over half of the entire presentation. Also, at both Macworlds in 2001 (in San Francisco and New York), the PowerMac G4s were updated. So there is a possibility that the Mac Pro may be updated at Macworld -- unless the focus of Macworld has shifted more to consumer devices in very recent years.

I think that will be a silent update a week or two before.

That is also quite a strong possibility. We can't discount the possibility of this happening too. After all, that's what happened last year with the 8-core Mac Pro being updated 7 days before the Macworld keynote. Also interesting to note that the MacBook Pro was updated 6 days before WWDC 2007. So this might become a growing trend for Apple to do this.

They will have lower prices on all of their iPods. iPod Touch will be lowed to $200.

They will announce The "new" Macbook Air. It will have all the old one didn't have. The old Macbook Air will still sold along with the new one with the new one's look because the new one is "too big" as Steve Jobs will say.

They will announce secret plans to sell a 4G iPhone for $115. Not $99.

Will partner with Google to put all the Google features into the next OS, Snow Leopard.

That's all.

- iLife 09 iWork 09

- 17" Mac Book Pro update with dual core 2.8 GHz standard and dual FW800 ports.

- New Apple Cinema Pros with matte screen option and built in ICC profiles.

- Bumps and what not for the toy hardware.

- maybe, just maybe an iPhone on a much better network, but I know I am only dreaming. There won't be a 4G iPhone since AT&T can barely get their 3G working right.

One more thing

At the conclusion of Steve's presentation, he will say, "Oh, there is one more thing. Apple is announcing a contest for all who have built an OSX86 computer that runs Leopard really well, and we want all of you to submit your designs to us for evaluation. We will choose one or more of the designs to be our newest product line. Winners will get a new Apple Display and their choice of a Mac Pro or a MacBook Pro."

Bleh.
I'll put in more when I'm not doing this from my iPod.

I'm really just hoping for a Mac Mini upgrade and maybe an Apple TV upgrade.

Hahahaha.
You make me laugh.
You act like you know what's coming out but your predictions are ridiculous.

I wonder how much people are actually using the touchscreens on their HPs, and how many were bought just because people said wow" at the store, but in practice preferred the keyboard and mouse to a somewhat kludgy solution in Windows with the touch interface.

I'd really like to have an LCD touch-pad much more than I'd like a touch-screen iMac or ACD. That could really be great across the whole line of desktops and laptops me thinks, particularly as it would come with engineering well thought out by Apple's crack interface design team.
