Anybody else worried that you would have to use this iPad without the magic keyboard when using it as a tablet? I’m hoping a slim shell case will work in conjunction with the magic keyboard and its magnets. If that doesn’t work I might have to return it..

I'm pretty certain at this point that this case will NOT fold all the way backward like the Smart Keyboard Folio does. So I went ahead and put in an order for a Slickwrap for my iPad. I don't mind taking it off the keyboard to draw and write, but what I do mind is putting it down on dirty or abrasive surfaces. With a wrap I can mostly quit worrying about it other than where the camera bump is. I did this with my Nintendo Switch to keep the dock from scratching it up and ended up being very happy with the result.

If it does not fold all the way back like the previous keyboard that would not be good for me. Design looks like it should allow this for case to fold back for touch/pencil only use. Looks just like the old keyboard case with the addition of round battery in the middle and typing position stops. I guess we will see when the new keyboard arrives.

It looks to me as if the part of the canvas exterior that covers the hinge has nowhere to go if you fold it back that far. And in all promo videos Apple has put out, anyone writing or drawing on the iPad has it removed from the Magic Keyboard. Those are the two things putting up red flags for me.

HOWEVER

Thinking back, I think that was also the case with the Smart Keyboard Folio and Smart Keyboard Covers. They rarely showed people folding the covers all the way back and using them that way with the Pencil.

Personally, I have always liked the feel of the "naked" iPad while using the Apple Pencil. I'm just always too scared to put it down in food crumbs or anything that will scratch up the back. I've found that having a dBrand skin on my Nintendo Switch has given me a lot of peace of mind in that regard, so I'm thinking the Slickwraps I ordered today will do the same for my iPad.

No big deal--to me, there are far too many benefits to this Magic Keyboard to pass up. I'm very excited about it.

I ordered one from Apple yesterday at 2:33 PM Eastern US (for the 11") and it is saying April 24-May 1 delivery. I put another order in at Best Buy and they say it will ship by April 24. It's a race! 😀

Here in Italy still processing. Ordered yesterday, delivery 21-23 April 😀. I’m very excited to receive it and test. My credit card has not been charged yet. For my iPad Pro was shipped from Czech Republic, curious to see the origin for the magic keyboard 🤔

Yes, I currently use the old keyboard folio and it has the same fabric piece covering the hinge. It doesn’t look like it could fold back on itself, but it does. Not that I need it to, since then you end up with exposed keys on the back.

Which wrap did you go for? I can’t see any for the 2020 iPad Pro on their website 😟

I posted this in another forum yesterday, the keyboard is also a battery, hence the price. The USB C charges the keyboard which powers the backlight in the keyboard so the iPad battery is not affected, and also doubles up as an external battery for the iPad, when plugged in it also passes power through the 3 pin connector to charge the iPad. Just look at the thickness compared to the iPad itself even taking in to consideration of key travel. This will also help with the weight for stability.
