Appreciate the response.
Yes I’m aware of this functionality.
What I would like to know is if the battery pack on its own can be charged via MagSafe. Without any wires.
ie. battery pack not attached to phone but to MagSafe charger
Cool! I think the poster above was asking also that if the battery case can get a charge from a regular qi wireless charger if the side that is typically attached to the phone is rested on a regular qi wireless charger instead.
Sorry I misunderstood. My MagSafe charger is in the bedroom and my partner is sleeping after a night shift.
I’ll check once he gets up but I’m pretty sure it will charge the battery pack.

I agree, I’m also used to having a wireless charging set up for my watch, iPhone, AirPods on my night stand…I would like to avoid having a lone lightening cable hanging out there for this thing…before anyone else says it, definitely a first world problem ?

Thank you
If it does then it is a lovely upgrade from the smart battery case.

Yes I attached the battery pack to the Belkin MagSafe charger and the charging light comes on!

Edit: so it turns out that the light came on but it wasn’t actually charging the battery pack. BOOOOOO

Interesting. Mine doesn't. I don't think it charges from either the MagSafe puck or any MagSafe dock, which echoes the comments from the guy on Reddit that MacRumors reported that got it before everyone else.

That’s weird.
I just tried it again and the light definitely came on.

Just received mine in Sydney Australia.

Some quick observations:
  • Battery was 0% on arrival
  • The material does not feel the same as a white silicone case. It doesn’t have the same soft touch and is a harder type plastic
  • Very compact and snaps on satisfyingly to both a leather case and the bare back of the iPhone
  • The magnet attachment feels much stronger than the leather wallet
  • Same length and widthas the leather wallet but obviously much thicker
  • Weighs 115g, 11mm thick
  • Charged phone from 83% to 91% in about 30 mins. Seem to have stopped after reaching more than 90% as indicated in the notification pop up when you first attach it.

Can you tell us about the heat?

It gets slightly warm maybe after 45 mins? Not sizzling hot but you can tell the battery pack is working hard and warmer to the touch.
Thanks. I just hope it won’t be hot enough to make the screen dim. I plan to use it only outside in the sunlight

Small question. Can the MagSafe battery charged with a normal Qi charger? Since MagSafe chargers don’t work. (Especially since the magnets should not properly align)

Quick question maybe someone might know can this be left on the charger without damage to the battery kind of like having a MagSafe puck but with the added bonus of having a portable charger when you need it?

will the pack stop charging at 100%

When you charge the pack through a lightning cable, does the amber led indicator stay on whilst charging or does it appear only for a brief moment?

Mine appears for a brief moment only.

Only the first couple of seconds. The same with AirPods.
Cheers, appreciate the prompt reply. The Apple support article appears to suggest otherwise, just wanted to be sure mine's working as expected.

  1. You'll see an amber status light while your MagSafe Battery Pack is charging. When the MagSafe Battery Pack is fully charged, you'll briefly see a green status light.

Mine is like yours, but it appears to continue to charge after the amber light turned off as I left it for a couple of hours to charge and I came back to unplug and plug it back in and the green light came on briefly. Apple may have to update the support article.

Edit: Yes it is fully charged; just slapped it on my phone to test. Shows 100%.

I am still on the fence. Would prefer a battery case like previous years.
Going from battery cases to this reduces the amount of SKUs by at least two, and can be used by any MagSafe-compatible iPhone, not just the one you have right now.
Apple is never going back to battery cases.
