You have to excuse my ignorance but what is the “big deal” behind MagSafe???
I have Samsung Qi wireless chargers for my iPhones and they work great.
What is this gimmick supposed to be?
I’m sorry for showing my stupidity but I just don’t get it.
The main draws as I see it are:
1. Qi chargers can be less effective or ineffective if you don’t place your phone properly on the coil. I have a Qi car charger and if I place the phone too high or too low in the cradle, it doesn’t charge. By using a magnet system, the phone will correctly align with any MagSafe charger exactly correctly each time for optimal charging.
2. I don’t believe this is a limitation of the Qi standard, but on iPhones Qi chargers max out at 7.5w. MagSafe goes up to 15w for faster charging.
3. Having magnets built into the phone body allows for a wide range of accessories, including cases, wallets, popsockets/handles, car chargers, docks, etc etc.
MagSafe by itself isn’t reason enough to get a 12, but it’s a nice added perk. Many case manufacturers build magnets into their cases and you pay a premium for them, and then each aligns their magnets differently so you can only use their accessories with their case. Now the magnets are built into the phone so there’s a standard every manufacturer can work with.
