MagSafe is getting us prepared for a port less iPhone. Can’t wait for that, I haven’t used the lightning port in my phones for years.

You have to excuse my ignorance but what is the “big deal” behind MagSafe???

I have Samsung Qi wireless chargers for my iPhones and they work great.

What is this gimmick supposed to be?

I’m sorry for showing my stupidity but I just don’t get it.
I think on the surface it’s like oh it’s a charger big deal. But I really think it’s a new charging standard that Apple will eventually roll out and eventually transition to a portless future. I think it’s a foundation laying device. Maybe the silicone mac will have a fast wireless transfer speed to transfer songs and photos and videos with ease.

We know with the Apple Watch this type of charging system can work. Apple Watch has no ports that’s user accessible. So this looks like the next thing. Will see what 2021 and 22 look like but I predict this is the case.

I’m excited about Verizon’s 5g. They can keep their magnet. I ordered the clear case for the 12 pro and I see there is a big bullseye on the back of it.
So stupid IMO.

So you saw the bullseye on the clear case and decided to order it anyway. Then you came here to complain about it.

i have the samsung charger as well, hardly every works, unless the iphone is perfectly positioned on the pad..

From the Verge article:

"Immediately, you can see how much easier it’d be to swap cases each morning, or perhaps before you go out for the evening (once society starts doing that kind of thing again). Today’s cases effectively have claws that grasp the edges of your phone — but with magnets, there’d be less need to painstakingly pry those away from your phone’s corners, or press down hard on your pricey camera module just to get enough leverage to pop it off."

This is more Apple genius. They will sell sooo many more cases by making case swapping easier. Not just them but also third party magsafe cases.
I received the case and the phone...
The case is made of rather hard plastic and it has the lip around the front screen so the magnet plays no role in staying on the phone.
It is very difficult to get the case off. I have never had this much difficulty taking a case off from an iPhone.
And because it is made of hard plastic and has fingerprint resistant coating, it is even more slippery than just holding the bare phone.

Confirmed? Or are you just speculating? :p
I mean we have quasi magsafe magnets on the iPad Pro models and the new air that’s mean for the magic keyboard for iPads.

To be honest the magnets on the back of the ipad are strong than the ones on the magsafe itself, for obvious reasons...

MagSafe is absolutely garbage.

Compare it to OnePlus Warp Charge 30w wireless.

Dunno were Apple is ahead. A14, Design and thats it?

What I don't understand is the fact that they got rid of MagSafe for Macs when the entire purpose originally for MagSafe is in the name - it was a safety measure so for if you accidentally tripped or pulled on the cord it wouldn't damage the cord, the connector, or the Mac. If you trip / accidentally pull the cord for iPhone's MagSafe, wouldn't the phone just go flying with the cord and connector anyway? It's just funny to me that they took it away from the Mac where it was actually useful for its intended purpose, then added it to the iPhone and it may not even fulfill that purpose (I am assuming since I don't have a phone with MagSafe currently). Just a little mini-rant from someone who misses MagSafe on the Mac. I also enjoyed being able to tell when my Mac was charged fully with the lid closed by looking at the little LED indictor on the MagSafe charger.

My guess is that MagSafe made sense when laptops had way shorter battery life back then and people constantly camping beside power outlets was a real scenario.

Now, with MacBooks boasting longer battery life, Apple likely envisions people using their laptops the same way iPads are used. You charge it overnight, and this gives it enough battery life to last the entire day till you get back home, so the incidence of someone tripping over the charging cable is less of a concern because you are charging it less.

Maybe but there is still the time while you are charging it that you don’t want it yanking off the table.

I have aftermarket cables on my MacBook Air and IPad to mimic the MagSafe capability.
