I am coming from a blackberry 8800 and have used most smartphones on the market in recent history. While there obviously need to be some tweaks to the mail app, I don't feel the need to go back to my blackberry. Gmail functions the same(just a bit slower on notification) as on my 8800 and my .mac is working great. The one issue I had was setting up my work via pop3, but once I found the correct port I was golden. My biggest things is the ability to see the different inboxes so I know where the new messages are..and the ability to set different notifications for each. It took RIM a while to turn the blackberry into the premier email device yet it still has shortcomings. I am confident apple will update the functionality on the iphone so I am willing to be patient. My iphone email has given me fewer headaches than any windows mobile device I have used:) Besides I really am starting to like the keyboard and I am already as fast on this as I was my 8800. I won't even mention how my poor 8800 looks and feels outdated after using iphone.

Update to my gmail comment: My gmail is arriving within 1 minute so it is identical to my blackberry..very cool.

Oye

I would like to add agreement to the need for a junk filter equivalent to that of Apple Mail's junk filter on the iPhone.

Please please please Apple add Apple Mail's junk-filter to the iPhone.

Pleeeease please please Apple add the Junk filter to the iPhone mail.

My email provider doesn't have a good filter, so I'm currently getting a junk-mail vibration every 5-10 minutes....

The Junk Mail filter on Apple Mail works great, and shouldn't be difficult to implement, since the iPhone is running OSX, right?

Other than that, this thing is working out excellently. The few notes for improvement I have so far are:

- When scrolling zoomed websites, instead of the grey/black filler boxes, how about blurred bitmaps, similar to google Earth, and what you get while zooming in and out.

- Can the horizontal/vertical flip adjust to every side, regardless of what screen you're at. Home/Settings/whatever. Rearrange to all four sides please. That would be great! There wouldn't be an up/down/left/right. Just whichever way you're holding it is right! Oh yeah that'd be nice.

- Can we get the latest Flash player on this puppy pretty pretty pleeease!? Flash player 9 would be awesome! I feel like I'm missing out alot of what the web has to offer without Flash Player 9.

- How about a setting that will auto-switch Mail's outgoing settings, for instance, when I'm away from my home wi-fi, the SMTP settings for my mail account don't work with AT&T's outgoing servers.

GREAT START WITH THE iPhone although! Makes you wonder what cellphone companies have been doing with their time. :)

The keyboard works excellent! I'm shocked at how intuitive the touch-screen is, and how accurate. I'm coming from previously being a Treo user.

how do you get your phone to check email every 5 to 10 minutes? i thought checking every 15 mins was the latest.

I think he's talking about Mail.app checking every 5 minutes.

Yahoo push for me is totally hit or miss. Sometimes works great, sometimes 30 minutes, and sometimes 4 hours.

Surprised that I have had no problems with my email on my iPhone.

EMail on my computer correctly synced over the accounts on my iPhone without any problems.

Well, I did have to find out how to setup Google Mail on my iPhone but after enabling POP....it worked

Possible Solution?

I have been wrestling with this problem for the past week and may have found a reasonable solution. I have implemented it now and will see how it works over the next few days. Right now it seems to be working just fine. Any mail consider Junk by Mail gets pulled out on my inbox on my mac and does not show up on the iPhone.

In Mail on my mac I originally had the option to delete mail on my server set to delete mail from my POP server after one week. That meant a lot of unfiltered spam sitting there waiting to be downloaded to my iPhone when I checked for mail.

I now have my mail set to delete when "moved from inbox". In theory, this should show the same amount of spam on the iPhone as that gets through through Apple's junk mail filter and my own custom rules that I have set up. Which I can live with.

Of course, this means you need to have your Mac on all the time checking and processing your mail (which I do every 15 mins). So, if you check you mail on the iPhone before it has a chance to do it's thing those will get through so this might not be a good solution if you rely heavily on iPhone mail.

I'm having this same issue. Coming from a blackberry 8800, I am disappointed.

One odd issue I am having as well. When I login on my MBP Mail, I am asked for a password to my pop3 account. I enter it in, and it says it is wrong, when it is not.

So for some reason, all the mail is going to my iPhone, not my computer!

Seems issue has fixed itself. Weird...

For those of you that are fighting dozens of unfiltered emails
on your iPhone, I have put together instructions on how to live
hassle-free with your iPhone and email until Apple issues a fix.

This seems to be the most popular method of resolving the problem
and for most people, it does work -- and works well!

Exchange support is not real Exchange support either. It requires the Exchange server is configured to accept IMAP connections. This is often disabled on corporate systems for security reasons.

Yea, I am right there with ya. I did (for the moment) have my IT person set to deliver my Exchange mail to a second account as well as my Exchange account. It's not perfect, but, at least I am getting my Exchange Email pushed to me. Ofcourse, in order to respond, I need to get on OWA.

Has anyone heard any more details about the upcoming solution from Visto? (www.vistomobile.com/iphone)

Cant you just forward a non gmail account to a gmail account which you only use on the iPhone.

Would gmail filter the forwarded emails?

Thereby acting as a temporary spam filter
