Mine had the decals, they have recently pulled them all off, thinking that contactless is coming soon. On the Costco reddit page it has been working at some warehouses already, as well as a QR Code membership card for scanning at the pump.

I was there getting gas today, and they have removed the decals from the pumps at my location. I asked the attendant about it, and he said "you'll be able to pay with it soon." He also did say that the scanner just below it is for mobile membership cards, which are also "rolling out soon." I'll take this with a huge grain of salt, considering all the misinformation I've gotten from them about this already.

I don't think its a grain of salt at all, I read up a lot on Reddit, and on r/costco, the employees there were saying Mobile Membership Cards are coming on Jul 22. Lets see.

There were screenshots of employees using Mobile memberships in that forum, and they all coincide with the fact that its a QR code, perfect to be scanned on something like a gas pump.

Edit: https://customerservice.costco.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8949/~/digital-membership-card-faqs

What do you know, I found this, LOL! So Mobile memberships are coming.

The decals are still on at the location I went to this morning, FWIW.

They're having some problems. I tried it at a store recently, and it instantly declined. I tried two more times, and it instantly declined every time. There was no processing or authorizing; it just immediately said declined. I ended up using the same card by chip.

Was it AmEx or Discover? Those are known to have issues at some places.

I was able to use contactless at TJMaxx today. I'm not sure if it extends to Marshalls/HomeGoods/Sierra Trading Post too, but I would assume so.

I grabbed a quick lunch today at PeiWei and Pay has been disabled. The girl said that they "still do Google, but don't do Apple any more". I pushed on the matter and got a blank "teenager" stare.

She likely saw Samsung Pay being used and associated that with all Android phones as those two tend to be synonymous with each other in the US. Also, I'm thinking they're on the places that had to disable contactless due to missing Visa's EMV contactless mandate, but I could be wrong on that.

It was a Mastercard. I remember having the same issue somewhere else when they activated contactless. They eventually got it sorted out.

Unfortunate. You'd think that with EMV contactless (supposedly) there wouldn't be issues, but apparently not. Hopefully that's fixed soon.

Pei Wei hasn't had it for months now. You also notice they don't have chip cards either. The new mandates require that chip has to be working, so EMV contactless can work. I was told it is going to come back once the chip reader part is working.

in egypt, The clerk didn't know if it would work and was surprised that it did - no problem. He then asked me where else it's working in town

Yeah, Fiesta Mart supermarkets in Texas seem to be in the same situation. They used to take apple pay but don’t anymore. They didn’t change their card readers, so it‘s likely to be the case that they missed the EMV contactless mandate.

I get that all the time too in Mexico, where just like in Egypt Apple Pay is not officially supported.

The Chipotle I went to today didn't have any readers. They looked at me like I was nuts when I asked if they took Apple Pay.
They're probably still just swiping cards on the decades old magnetic stripe reader attached to the edge of the computer screen, aren't they? how backward.

I went back to the one where I saw the reader last night and got a glimpse of the VX820. It indeed had the contactless logo on it and the rectangular "lights" on top but I couldn't tell if the leftmost one was green (required for Apple Pay to work). Maybe I'll try it next time when there's no one behind me in line.

Those ”lights” are simulated, so if they’re being shown on the top of the VX820’s screen you can be sure contactless is enabled and apple pay will work. A Verifone VX820 with the contactless disabled shows no “lights” on the top of the screen at all or contactless logo, but rather only a message that says “insert or swipe card” and maybe the payment provider’s logo (though the latter isn’t very common in the US unlike in Mexico). I know that because all but one of the retailers using the VX820 in Mexico have contactless disabled and that’s what it looks like when the cashier unlocks the reader to process a card payment. Only at the one supermarket chain in Mexico where they have the NFC enabled the vx820s show the rectangular green “lights” at the top of the screen.
