I have also seen plenty of people use Walmart Pay at my local Walmart. I have to admit, it isn't too bad, at least compared to Kroger Pay. Kroger Pay is the worst, works only half the time if you're lucky, and doesn't even work in the whole store (like it isn't supported for the gas station, or the Starbucks inside the store). At least Walmart is consistent with it, and it ties in well with the app.

Maybe, but turning on nfc enables a ton of different forms of payment not just Apple Pay. It’s rather abusive and narrow minded to disable so many other forms of payment because they hate one that uses the same technology. Not only that, they went so far as to block samsung’s mst which worked for years at their stores.

I've seen reports on twitter of people seeing Apple Pay in post offices now. Mine didn't have it the last time I checked, but maybe yours does.

They’re doing a pilot test of the new terminal at some stations. The station my mail is delivered from is testing it out and it worked great yesterday.

I for one am using Walmart Pay due to the 5% cash back on Capital One card. Those points add up quick, and I’ve already accumulated enough points to cash out $15, and I’ve had my card for 2 weeks now.

As opposed to what’s happening in Mexico. Here Walmart has its own version of walmart pay, called Cashi. They claim to have lots of users, but actually most people who use Cashi only use it to top up their BAit (walmart Mexico’s prepaid cellphone service provider) phones. I haven’t seen anyone actually use Cashi in-store at Walmart or its local affiliates. I tried it a couple of times, and it’s not bad but feels clunky compared to paying via nfc. One thing that doesn’t help much is that at Walmart Mexico stores the QR code for Cashi is displayed on the cashier’s computer screen instead of on the pinpad screen as it is done at US walmart stores when using Walmart Pay.

QuickTrip or QuikTrip? or Kwik-Trip? They're all different companies! The QuikTrip variant charges the Apple Card to the max, and then releases it 4-5 days later, not happy with them. They are the only gas station to do this too, every other one, releases the hold by the time I hang up the pump.
Yea I won't get gas at those places. The only way Wawa does that is if you use the app for some promo instead of AP at the pump. Even using the physical card at the pump doesn't have a hold.

You've been able to use Apple Pay at the Apple Store since Apple Pay debuted.

But the original question was if anyone had found merchants using the recently launched tap to pay on iphone feature (i.e., using just a plain iphone with no add-ons or case as the payment terminal for tap to pay/apple pay). And so far Apple stores in the US are the only ones doing that. Though the Apple stores have indeed accepted apple pay since 2014, until earlier this year they only did it by using an iphone with a special case on it. Now they can use the iphone without any accessory on it.

Supposedly anyone using Square can do it, but considering how long they've been selling the contactless reader for, there might not be many takers for a while.

Stripe too. In fact, Stripe was the first payment services provider to support tap to pay on iphone back in March.

In other news, how many here think Kroger's going to disable contactless at soon to be legacy Safeway and Albertsons locations as soon as their deal with the latter completes? I mean, you'd think they'd just keep it enabled at Safeway/Albertsons (considering how long they've accepted it) but it's unfortunately not out of the realm of possibility.

I don’t think they’ll disable it. Just like Amazon never disabled contactless at whole foods stores when it acquired the chain.

I'm leaning towards this as well. They may not necessarily ever enable it at any of the other legacy Kroger locations (other than QFC), but that's a different issue.

I'm the one who asked the original question. I was asking if any retailers who didn't accept apple pay started accepting it once square released their tap to pay. And stripe still doesn't have it. It's still in beta.

I added Ralph's King Soopers/City Market as accepting contactless with a future full Kroger banner rollout probable I'd say.

I dropped Kroger since they do not accept Apple Pay.

Kroger owns more than 10 different grocery brands and only 3 of them are using contactless, so there is a lot to go.
Curious... which three? I know Ralph's (in CA) does... and Fry's (in AZ) does not... it's truly mind-boggling that there is such resistance... especially since there's a (real or imagined) coin shortage. :D

Considering they didn’t even bother turning it on in the height of COVID, it just tells me they don’t care.
