And what are you expecting?
I am expecting better multitasking features and improvements to unlock the Thunderbolt 3/USB 4 port that are currently limited to USB 2 speeds on iPadOS 14.6.

I also would like to see macOS apps that are compiled for Apple Silicon and on the Mac App Store allowed to be installed and run on the 2021 iPad Pro to really open up the power of the device. Since these apps are already sandboxed it should fit really well with the limitations imposed by iPadOS. I see this as a real possibility.

Last year's WWDC was the most exciting  event for me all year. There was so many surprises by Apple on iOS 14 for the iPhones. This is the iPad's year. One year they prioritize one and the other gets mild improvements/polish. iPadOS 13 was far more significant than iOS 13 was. So this is the year for iPadOS to get the lion's share of new OS features between those two devices. I'm not saying we won't see anything cool on the iPhone, but not as much as iPad will.

I firmly believe we will see significant multitasking improvements, desktop-like features, and better integration with Mac apps. I also think we will see iPad versions of Apple's Pro apps like Final Cut Pro X and Logic Pro X. For iPads in general we'll see home screen widgets ala iOS 14 and an app library like 14. I think the Pros will see Pro-only features though. Those who bought M1 iPads will be happy, the people who returned them will be sorry, and the Marques Brownlee's of the world can stop whining and making false statements like "iPads aren't computers. Wahh. It's a spec bump". He's technically wrong now even with the current OS, he'll be even moreso after iPadOS 15! iPad Pros are just as capable as Surface Pros. Sure, you might go about tasks differently than you would on a Mac, for a fair comparison, but you can absolutely do everything you *need* (important word) to do on an iPad Pro. I'm not sure we'll ever see macOS on an iPad or dual booting. That would cannabalize Mac sales. I think Apple would be smart to not put macOS on an iPad Pro.

Is this true? Non of my ssd drives run that slow, on either 2018 or 2021.
There has been some discussion on the forums about it.

When I hook it to my Thunderbolt 3 compatible Windows Desktop it doesn’t detect it as faster than USB2 speeds and doesn’t recognize it as a Thunderbolt 3 device. Restoring my backup also took quite a long time.

I am excited for anything related to iPad OS tomorrow at WWDC and also anything that helps us restore / snapshot / backup a Mac easier :).

I really don't think it is about cannibalizing sales for Apple. If they feel it is the right decision, they will. They have done this with other products of theirs in the past. No, I think for Apple its about how MacOS on a touch interface just doesn't feel right. When I have used Windows 10 with a touch screen, its not a great experience for me. The icons are small - like having to try and click the "X" button to close a window. The "X" icon is smaller than your finger input.

Apple wants to create the best touch experience and they do that with iOS and iPad OS. Its built for a touch screen in mind. Mac OS is built for input from a mouse or touchpad. From interviews that I've seen, Apple feels like this is a terrible compromise to try and make the iPad an all-in-one device for Mac OS. Microsoft took this approach and Apple feels like the experience is bad. The surface is not a great tablet nor is it a great computer because of the compromises it had to take.

An iPad is an awesome tablet experience and the Mac is great computing experience.

To be fair. Touch input works just fine when I am RDP into my Windows 10 desktop from my 12.9 inch iPad.

I think we’ll see macOS apps making their way to the iPad. I just don’t think we’ll see ones that are side loaded. The Mac App Store isn’t anywhere near as ubiquitous as the iPadOS or iOS app stores. I can see this feature offering a major benefit to bringing more mac apps to the store and increasing the value of ”universal” apps.

The same “touch input“ argument was made for years as to why iOS or iPadOS apps aren’t on macs. Apple added them to M1 macs last year and here we are. If anything this allows M1 macs to eat into iPad Pro sales(as has been noted many times in these forums).

I agree with you though that the cannibalism argument is weak...

Let us see what tomorrow brings.
