Only because his hands will be numb lol

If this thing is heavy enough so that you can not hold it and have to place it on something then laptop has all advantages and no disadvantages.
What do you mean exactly. You are standing holding it entirely in one hand? If so, Why?
Rest it on a table, in your lap, etc...
Aside from that, it weighs less than a Harry Potter Hard cover that I have seen 10 year old girls managing, so I don't think many people will have that much issue with it's "massive" weight.
oh dear God, here we go. some people will be complaining about how big and heavy the iPad is. and then some people will complain because how small the iPad's screen is after listening to the complainers who said the unit was too big.
This thing used to weigh 2lbs, which is 33% more than an iPad.

I don't recall that thing appealing to consumers very much either (and not just because it was insanely expensive).
What do you mean? That was a huge status symbol back in the day.
We got the 16gig and it doesn't feel to heavy even after an hour or so. Much easier than carrying around my Macbook Pro.
Fer cryin' out....it weighs 1.5 pounds--24 ounces. The same as 2 cans of Coke..
My issue isn't that you have a negative feeling towards it. It's that you have an unrealistic expectation of being able to hold it for an extended time with one hand.I HOPE some people in here can relax and realize, some iPad owners have at least 1 ONE negative feeling towards it.
Are you being sarcastic? The iPhone weighs 5 oz. You expect Apple to design a 10" tablet and only add an additional 3 oz? Ives is a damn fine designer, but he's not a miracle worker.I agree and makes me wonder why Apple didn't make the iPad 8 ounces (1/2 lb)![]()
True, but it's awfully close. An ounce of water weighs 1.04 ounces, so a liquid ounce and an ounce of mass are pretty darn close. A 12 ounce can of water would weigh ~12.5 oz. plus the weight of the can, which is probably around 1/2 oz.Weights and Measures fail!
A can of Coke is 12 fl oz., which is a unit of volume, not weight.
I hope Apple makes an iPad Mini. Just imagine how amazing that would be. I love the iPad, but an iPad a quarter of it's size would be absolute killer!
I think it's because weight "feel" is all about density, not weight. Trade paperbacks are two or three times as thick as an iPad, so they feel lighter.
