Next step I want to try install Windows 10 Pro UEFI to sperate nvme, if im not mistaken the guide is for a legacy install? I think i have some more researching to do, or is it a case of creating a USB installer, remove all other drives and install?
Just follow the procedure in post #1. That will give you a UEFI install.

I already have a backup reconstructed mac boot rom for regular 90 day servicing.
Great!

Using Martin Los' bundle i made it into Big Sur with MP5,1. Then i installed Monterey from within Big Sur onto the same drive partitioned into 2. Monterey install completed without any changes needed to the config file to allow install onto the new drive, and attempting to boot into it results in a restart loop just before the loading bar loads. All i see is the Apple logo and restart loop.
I'm pretty sure both installs are using the same config file being on the same drive. Is there something i can adjust to make this setup work!?

Hi I am not a programmer, I has have Catalina installed on an SSD mid 2012 Mac Pro and other then the graphics card issue it seems to be working fine. I did use dosdude1 Catalina patcher successfully, I want to upgrade to Big Sur.
I also have High Sierra installed natively on an HDD, so that I can switch between OS's
My question is that if I follow the Guide for Open Core, what is my next step to get to Big Sur?

Lots of people are happy to help. Let's start with some questions.

It appears from your screen shot that you have the original graphics card installed. Is that correct? If so you would need a metal compatible graphics card.

Second question - what boot rom are you running? The most recent is 144.0.0.0.0.

Thanks I do have a new card coming in which if I have done my research correctly it should be compatible with the latest OS, the new card will be AMD Radeon Sapphire HD 7950 3GB.
My boot rom is MP51.0089.B00, and so is there a guide to get the most recent boot rom installed?
Also I was just looking over the how-to for Hardware Acceleration on thread #594, should I do this instead?
Just a side note I do know my way around my Mac and I'm not scared to try something new

I think I just found the setup for boot rom upgrade, I will look this over
Thanks

Sometimes I see when trying to bless OC USB Can’t statfs, what does it mean? What have I done wrong?

The guide has been updated to OpenCore version 0.7.8.
@cdf - I see that Post #1 says no changes to config.plist upgrading to 0.7.8 yet I've created a new EFI folder (the second time following Post #1 carefully to make sure I didn't mix any files from 7.7 and 7.8), copied in my 0.7.7 config.plist (from my rescue CD), burned a new rescueCD, and can't boot. My 0.7.7 CD boots fine.

I did check to make sure LauncherOption was set to Disabled and RequestBootVarRouting to false. Any thoughts about what I might have missed?

Strange. The config should just be a drop-in replacement. When you say that you can't boot, do you mean that OC starts but macOS fails to do so?

Almost there, Big Sur and W10 have installed, no blue tooth in either atm, I have already done the bt/Wi-Fi adapter to BCM943602CDP. I have seen 3 random restarts in BS thou, screen flickers and restarts? However I'm seeing the same screen flicker in W10 also, but not causing a restart, not rx580 again hmm.

No - I hear the CD spin up but don't see the boot picker just black screen and then after a bit the computer shuts down.

To provide background - I am now using a RX560 so no boot screen (I used to use a flashed GTX680).

I boot OC from a rescue CD. Normally when I boot I hold down "C" and boot from the CD - I get the boot picker and pick my OS.

I built a new EFI folder from 0.7.8 and the three kexts I use (lilu, featureunlock, whatevergreen) following post #1. I then dropped in my config.plist from my 0.7.7 setup.

When I use the new CD (actually a DVD-RW) I hold down "C", after a bit hear the CD spin up, but never see the boot picker and the computer eventually shuts down. For some reason it is not booting from the CD. I have verified that it is readable and I burned it twice - the second time I tried to be very careful about building the EFI files thinking I may have mixed 0.7.7 and 0.7.8 files.

Since I am stumped I feel like I'm missing something very simple and so reached out.

Also it seems Monterey just freezes after maybe 10-15mins and then autorestarts. Known problem?.

I'm using Martins latest package and only moded it to support Thunderbolt and OpenLinuxBoot.
I only seem to have these issues with Monterey not in either Linux,Windows or Mojave.

I've seen your posts and our systems sound pretty similar. Specs in the sig. I use this machine daily and have no issues, so no, I'm not aware of auto-restart or wifi problems once upgraded to a BCM94360CD.

I'm suspicious that your card is faulty, mis-installed or not as advertised given it doesn't appear in Mojave either. I assume that to be a "clean boot" and not started from OC?

If it were me I would re-check the card installation first and confirm it appearing in Mojave. Make sure you have done a CMD-ALT-P-R reset, after a hardware change like that one (where identifiers will have changed) I usually release the keys on the third chime.

Once the card is sorted you could always try my EFI config if you continue to have problems.

It seems that your Mac is just not booting from the CD when you hold C; instead it selects another disk and shuts down (shutting down is the normal behavior when trying to boot an unsupported version of macOS without a Mac EFI graphics card). Perhaps try holding C with another keyboard (preferably an Apple wired keyboard).

Another possibility is that 0.7.8 refuses to start from CD altogether (that would really be unfortunate, but we could always report the regression). I'll have to test it myself.

@cdf - that is what is (or isn't) happening. Doesn't boot from the CD, tries to boot Catalina and then shuts down. I am using an Apple Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad in wired mode. It hasn't given me any trouble booting.

I hadn't thought that it might be a regression in OpenCore. That would definitely be unfortunate as my setup right now depends on me booting with the rescueCD.

What is interesting is I had set my default startup volume to Mojave so it would be supported but for some reason it tried to boot Catalina after not booting from the CD. I try and make sure Mojave remains the startup volume so I can always fall back to booting the supported OS without the CD/boot screen.

I have modified the PlatformSupport.plist on the Catalina Preboot and Recovery volumes to make the cMP5,1 a "supported" machine (I'm not using _no_compat_check boot arg) and I'll do some testing later to see if it was my EFI or my burn that was the issue (though I did it twice).

In case this can help, I don't need to create an OpenCore boot CD, because I have a Mac-flashed EFI GPU, so I can easily boot using a GPT USB thumb drive. OpenCore 0.7.8 boots without any issues off that thumb drive.
