Unfortunately for some of us Chrome is required for work (plugins etc). I haven't conducted a scientific test but it eats battery despite running the ARM variant. Nothing else burns power as much (I guess unless you were constantly exporting video or something).

Use Microsoft Edge - since it is now built on the same Chromium base as Chrome, you can actually migrate all of your settings and extensions to Edge, and it doesn't kill battery like Chrome does.

Why people use Chrome didn't get what is so special about it? It is resource hungry and not the best web browser in any way. As alternative i use Brave Browser - it is really secure with built in really advanced add blocker, works fast. But main browser in my case are Safary. Try Brave - it is fantastic! And without these google junks like chrome. :)
Can't quite get into the details, but I need to use Chrome specifically, unfortunately. We all know chrome is junk.

I don't know, even though I can at times get 15+ hours it doesn't take too many tabs in Safari for that number to go down significantly. Honestly I was hoping battery life would be more consistent and able to take some load without dropping like a rock. Don't understand how people can list a long list of apps running while still getting fantastic battery life.

OP stated that his problems came from AV software, not Chrome.

I am running M1 Chrome version on my both MBA and MBP - however with removed Keystone and GoogleUpdate services from the package and it runs great on my MBA and MBP without any additional battery impact.

Ex-Windows users (where I belong) know that Chrome can be a hog, mostly by running services in the background - but it can be tweaked not to be.
On Mac - that proces is even easier than on Windows.
How do you remove Keystone and GoogleUpdate services from the package? And what are the downsides?

Chrome works just fine for me.
Password sync across different systems is what keeps me with it.
No other Chromium browser supports that.
Give me Safari on every platform - and I will jump in...

Sounds like you don't know the details tbh.
For starters I need to log into Google profiles across computers with different OS — on the browser itself. I run plugins that don't work on other browsers. You can choose to believe I require Chrome or not, doesn't matter to me. Any time I'm doing work that doesn't require those things I switch to Firefox or Safari if I'm on my MacBook. But would be nice if it didn't mean such a big battery hit.

Password synch is actually not a reason for me. I use password managers that I can add to any browser/computer.

Just right click on the app from Finder and Show Package Contents...
Keep a copy of the original (to restore) - and use one version to delete stuff you need...if it breaks, restore the original
With Chrome I was interested to stop the updates and for that - I learned that GoogleUpdate and Keystone are the key... so I wanted to get rid of them...
It was 30min test-try, but I cant remember specify which folders I touched exactly...
But I use that app now without any issues, and no Chrome battery issues that some users explain...

Hmm, I was able to install the Edge Canary build (new developer build also supports the M1 natively), and just log in with my Google credentials to copy my bookmarks, saved passwords, etc. over without issue. I also use LastPass for cross-browser/cross-platform password management, so even if "no other Chromium browser" supported password sync as you claimed, it wouldn't affect me in the least.

This is great to hear - was not aware of it... will check it out...

There must be something wrong because I usually start working around 5 AM and when I cut off at 4 PM, I still have about 30%-40% battery life. Safari, Outlook, Slack, VScode, and Docker are running the entire time.
