Hi everyone,

Is very difficult for me to make a choice between MBP or MBA, because there is not a big price difference.

In my county the MBP cost 2284 dollars and the MBA with upgraded ram to 16 gb. is 1900 dollars. And if I choose the MBP I also get 512 GB SSD instead of 256 GB in the MBA.

Is this a no brainer, to choose the MBP or what do you guys think?

Go with the MBP unless you want thin and light.

I'm buying the Air but it's only $1399 with 16 GB/ 256 here.

Get the MBP. Don't delve in it much more.

Unless you really want that new Midnight color that the M2 MBA offers, yeah I would go for the M1 Pro 14 inch MBP.

$384 for a bigger screen, nicer screen, more ports, faster processor and 256gb more storage.

Yes, this is a no brainer in my eyes.

do you want a light & portable computer with an average screen & less ports?
or do you want a heavier & bulkier computer with the best screen & more ports?
But I dont think the MBP is so much more heavier and bigger to carry on is about 400 gram.

It seems like most think I should go with the MBP, and I also think by my self that is the best choise for a little more money.

I liked the midnight color a lot, but the common sense must win, and I think I will go with the MBP :)

Should the MacBook Air M2 be much cheaper, I would have told you to go for it. But this isn't the case and like you said, there is a small price difference with the MacBook Pro 14-inch model. And considering the (numerous) advantages of the MacBook Pro 14"... you already know my answer to your question!

Just go for the MBP.

400 grams is about 1/3 more than the Air. Also the charger is smaller. The main design purpose of the Air is thin and light. It's not a need or want with many people and it doesn't sound like that is a concern for you. I wouldn't pick the Air for the color because that seems silly.

You didn't say what you were going to do with the computer but perhaps you'll take advantage of the power in the Pro. Even if not the screen will be a nice touch.

Totally agree, but at the same time, I guarantee there will be people who will buy the Air over the Pro exactly for that reason assuming they don't need the features of the Pro from a laptop.

Apple really should sort out their boring colours on their MBPs.

I don't think the "Pro" models will ever get fancy colors.

If someone is spending around $2k or whatever they cost in their country they should know and not assume what features they need. I think most people are best served by the base model Air. People go on these forums and everyone who is a computer nerd tells them oh no you have to upgrade everything without even knowing what the use case is. All the sudden that $1100 computer becomes a $2000 computer when all they're doing with it is school homework and social media. These guys should get a commission from Apple for this 🤣

its funny how people are noting a small price different, yet, not understanding just how much more powerful the 14" is not to mention the gorgeous mini LED screen that's twice as bright and you can use outside!
Sure the MBA is the "new shinny thing" but give it a month or two, and it will not be...

Sorry for crashing your thread but i just have an additional question.

Regarding the configuration for the MBP 14, is there a big difference between 8 core cpu + 14 core gpu (standard version) vs 10 core cpu + 14 core gpu? Just curious because the price difference is kinda high - and i could get the "standard version" vor 1999€ .. (was also thinking about the MBA M2 - but same spec is more expensive).

Thanks guys.

Picking a laptop due to the color is like using a butter knife in a sword fight.

The difference is two additional performance CPU cores which should result in better multicore performance (I doubt it's €200 better though but that's a bit subjective).

Depends. What are your needs for a MBP? I'd skip the upgrade if you don't need the additional cores.

First of all, thanks to all of you responding :)..

So, i am using it for editing photos (maybe in the future editing a bit video stuff for short vlog (~1mins) and other related stuff. Means Lightroom / Photoshop are things i use regulary.

I am noch techguy - that's why i dont have a feeling what those 2 more cores would do (for the related pricetag).

Greetings

I have friends that did just that... The laptop color not the sword fight LOL... I asked her why did you pick this one. Because it's pink 🤣

In the end, those people become frustrated as the laptop they choose will likely be overkill and they'll realize it and complain about the money spent, or underspend and complain.
It's because some see the Mac as something like a Rolex where it's just to show off so they have more attachment to it than just a cheaper PC. It's a recipe for disaster because in the end it's just a computer and has all the flaws and letdowns of one. At least the Rolex will still be good in a few decades
